The thermal expansion tank come pre charged with compressed air,about 20 to 30 PSI,the pressure should match the water service pressure,for instance if the water service pressure is 50 psi then the thermal expansion tank pressure should be 50 psi the installing plumber should increase the pressure in the thermal expansion tank,if this is not done during the installation of the thermal expansion tank it will cause it to fail.
