  1. Jon Barry Stanley, age 42, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019. He was born on May 13, 1977 in Austell, GA to his parents; Jack and Kathy Stanley. Mr. Stanley attended Westridge Church and worked for Wellstar Thoracic Group. He previously had worked as a Physicians Assistant at Wellstar Cobb Hospital in the emergency department and as a paramedic for American Medical Response, Puckett Ambulance, Clark Ambulance and Ambucare. Along with working as a physicians assistant and a paramedic, he also worked as a flight medic for Rescue Air One. Jon had a heart to help those in need and loved Jesus dearly. He was a musician and enjoyed playing the guitar, piano and the drums. He is preceded in death by his mother, Kathy Landmon Stanley. Survivors include his father and step-mother; Jack and Elaine Stanley of Villa Rica, GA, children; Jon Hayden Stanley of Kennesaw, GA, Phillip Jackson Stanley of Dallas, GA, Kristen Eve Stanley of Dallas, GA, brother, Lee Stanley of Dallas, GA, grandparents; JoAnn Stanley of Dallas, GA, Edna Landmon of Mableton, GA, aunts, uncles and 2 nephews.   2. Keith Harris, 61, of Powder Springs, GA passed away on August 9, 2019. He was born on February 13, 1958 in Marietta, GA to Donald and Marcia Harris and was preceded in death by his father, Donald Harris. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Hiram. He loved all his family especially his wife, Kim, of 39 years, but his grandchildren were the light of his life. He enjoyed hunting, reading, and cooking on his Big Green Egg. Mr. Harris was proud of his 30 years’ service as a truck driver with Domino’s Pizza. Survivors include his wife, Kim Harris; his son, Stephen (Taylor) Harris of Rockmart, GA; his daughter, Amanda (Blake) Henderson of Hiram, GA; and his grandchildren, Morgan Henderson, Joley Henderson, Emmie Harris, and Elliott Harris. He also leaves behind many brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, and many close friends. Pallbearers are Andy Dale, Blake Alexander, Lucas Cameron, Andrew Graham, Michael McKelvey, Gerald Gilbert, and Brad Turner.   3. Mavis Cunningham of Dallas, GA, 85, passed away at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain Thursday, June 6, 2019. She was born on October 30, 1933 to the late MacAfee and Dana Jordan. She was preceded in death by her spouse of 62 years, Earl Cunningham; her parents; her sister, Mae Mitchell, and a son-in-law, Charles Curl, Sr. Mavis was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her grandchildren were her life, and she had a soft spot for all children. She loved her dog, Greta, and she enjoyed walking and exercising. She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed baking. If she knew what a person liked to eat, she would make it for them each time they came to visit. She was in administration at the State of Georgia for 35 years and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dallas, GA. She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Curl of Dallas, GA; her sister, Fae Cummings of Bowdon, GA; three grandchildren: Chad and Gretchen Curl, Brent and Maranda Curl, and Stacey Curl; seven great-grandchildren: Chip Curl, Sophia Curl, Abi Curl, Eli Curl, Charli Curl, Benji Curl, and Luci Curl, as well as many nieces and nephews.   4. Bette Bacon Dunn, 89, of Dallas, Georgia passed away May 26, 2019, quietly in her sleep of natural causes. She was born to the late H. W. (Pete) and Lona Brown, on February 1, 1930, in Burnt Hickory, Georgia. Bette was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Dunn; brothers, Leo Curtis Brown and Lowell Brown; sisters, Ruth Mercer, Lawanna Jones. and her oldest nephew, Lamar Mercer. Bette is survived by her three daughters: Ronda (Curt) Davis of Sarasota, Florida, Renna Flaig of Port Huron, Michigan, and Tammy (Keith) Jelks of Dallas, Georgia; four grandchildren, William Winn, Tori Jelks Thomason, Taren Jelks Winn, and Tyler Jelks; two great grandchildren, Baylor Thomason and Mady Thomason; nephews and nieces, Jimmy Brown of South Carolina; Donald Brown of Texas, Betty Ann Brown of Texas, Henry Brown of Texas, Adele Jones of North Carolina; and Jean Jones of Dallas, Georgia. Bette graduated from Dallas High School in 1948 and was a long-time member of the Dallas First United Methodist Church. In addition to raising her three daughters, her accomplishments include being a very proud veteran of the United States Air Force in both active and reserve capacities, and a past member of the Dallas Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She received the “Outstanding Military Citizen of Georgia Award” from the state in 1977. Another local contribution that Bette made was serving as the Secretary-Treasurer for the Dallas Cemetery Trust for 13 years.   5. Terry Lee Edwards, age 71, of Dallas, GA, passed away peacefully at Wellstar Tranquility at Cobb, on Saturday, May 25, 2019. He was born on August 7, 1947 in Pulaski, VA to the late Andrew and Mildred Edwards. Mr. Edwards served in the US Army and retired after more than 13 years as a police officer with the City of Kennesaw. Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Helen S. Edwards of Hiram, GA; son, Jeff Callihan of Powder Springs, GA; Daughter, Kristi (Mitch) Reed of Dallas GA; sisters, Elizabeth Pope of Pulaski , VA and Suzie (Tom) Caviness of North Carolina; grandchildren, Lacie Gillam, Heath (Halie) Callihan, and two others; great grandchildren, Stella Callihan and Declan Callihan; and many nieces and nephews.   6. Rex Allen Rollins age 54, of Dallas, GA, passed away Friday, May 17, 2019. He was born on July 27, 1964 in Atlanta, GA to Mary Ruth Guise and the late Eugene Rollins. He was a loving husband and proud father. He loved his church and would build floats for the Fall Festival and Christmas Parade. Rex never met a stranger and was ready to help anyone in need. He had a loving and giving heart and a huge soul. Mr. Rollins worked in construction for 35 years.   7. Lee Hogue, age 80, of Hiram, GA, formally of Sugar Hill, GA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain, surrounded by his loved ones. Mr. Hogue was born in Atlanta, GA, on September 27, 1938 to the late Lyman and Lois Hogue. Mr. Hogue was a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, as he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior 8 years ago. He was in the American Legion # 264 of Mableton, GA, and also a member of Voiture 40 & 8 # 217. In his spare time, Lee was an avid train collector and still has some from his childhood. As well as being a collector, he loved sports and the Georgia Bulldogs. He greatly enjoyed playing golf, as he would always tell everyone about his hole in one. Mr. Hogue is preceded in death by his parents, his beloved spouse, Louise, and his siblings; Gene Hogue, Ann Richardson, Katheryn Sheffield, Shirley Hogue, Gayle Seabrook, Eddie Hogue and Carlton Hogue.   8. Billy Freeman, age 77, of Dallas, GA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Tranquility at Kennesaw Mountain. Mr. Freeman was born on July 2, 1941 in Dallas, GA, to the late Homer and Bessie Freeman. He owned a Hardware store for over 30 years and was a faithful member of Pumpkinvine Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents.   9. Peggy Benedict, age 65, of Hiram, GA, passed away at her home on Friday, May 10, 2019. Mrs. Benedict was born on December 8, 1953 in Atlanta, GA, to John and Mary Benedict. She worked as an Accounts and Receivable Clerk for Crystal Springs Water and was a faithful member of Cheatham Hill Baptist Church. In her free time, she loved crafting, especially quilting and embroidering. She would also go every Friday morning to the local nursing home and help the residents paint pottery and ceramics. She also had a love for gardening. Peggy was a loving wife, mother and lived for her dearly loved grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, John William Benedict and her sister, Sheila Davis.   10. Christie Brown Thompson, age 101, passed away Saturday, May 04, 2019 at WellStar Tranquility Hospice at Cobb. Christie was born January 20, 1918 to the late George Waters and Minnie Lou Brown and was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney F. Thompson, sisters, Lucille Morgan, Gertrude Brown, Irene Bean and Marie Robbs; brothers, Jewel N. Brown, Noah Brown, Floyd (Bud) Brown and Arnold Brown. Christie worked as a steam press operator at Palm Beach Clothing Company for 40 plus years before retiring in 1983. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Talladega, Alabama. She loved to crochet and was an avid Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball fan. She enjoyed her special friends and playing bingo at Creekside Pines Senior Living where she had resided for the past six years Survivors include her daughter Rebecca (Becky) Thompson Smith of Hiram, GA;granddaughter, Ashley Thompson (Jared) Gulick of Dallas, GA; great- granddaughter, Peyton Gulick of Dallas, GA.   13. Marion Brumelow age 75, of Powder Springs, GA passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019. She was born on May 24th, 1943 in Atlanta, GA to the late Cecil Kennedy and Georgia “Bill” Rolin. Marion was a loving wife, mother, and “Memaw”. She loved her church, and because of her service and dedication to the Lord many lives were changed. She was also known for her wonderful songs at VBS. Marion loved spending time with her high school friends “the Girls”. Her grandkids will forever think of Memaw when they hear the song “You are my Sunshine”.   14. Maj. David S. Simpson, age 75, of Dallas, GA passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019. He was a loving son, father, grandpa, uncle, brother, and friend. David was an Academic Flight Instructor in the F-15 Eagle program at Tyndall AFB for 21 years. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force and flew over 100 combat missions in Southeast Asia. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a Bachelor’s Degree and loved the Tar Heels. David also enjoyed traveling and playing guitar. He was quite the foodie and loved playing golf. He was also proud to be a Kubasaki High School Dragon in Okinawa, Japan. David is survived by his Stepfather CSM. John E. Kessling and wife Barbara, Stepmother Edith Simpson, Mother of his children Cherie Simpson, Son David Simpson of Trinidad, CA, Daughters Shanna Detweiler of Acworth, GA and Stephanie (Matt) Amos of Acworth, GA, Brothers Michael Simpson and Danny Simpson, Sister Rhonda Sinquefield, Grandchildren Emily Detweiler, Jacob Amos, Wesely Carmichael, and Wyatt Detweiler, and many nieces and nephews.   15. Sarah Ann Atha, age 62, of Hiram, GA, passed away on Wednesday, April 3, 2019. She was born on July 22, 1956 in Birmingham, AL, to the late Annie and Emory Crews, Jr. Mrs. Atha was a nurse for Wellstar Healthcare for 45 years. She loved working in the emergency room, and comforting those in need. She was a faithful member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. As well as working as a nurse, she spent her time as a Crafts and Event Coordinator. Mrs. Atha was a loving wife and mother to her cats; Charlie and Sydney. Survivors include her loving husband, Bruce Atha of Hiram, GA, sister, Nancy (David) Jordan of St. George, UT, and brother, Danny (Vickey) Crews, Sr. of Chattanooga, TN, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Atha will be held on Friday, April 5, 2019 from Poplar Springs Baptist Church at 3:00 PM.
