  1. I never said he was only vehicle on the road. And he did leave work earlier than normal. When he left work (his own company) at 4 ish, it wasn't as bad. In fact, my next door neighbor that came from the same place. She made it home just fine. When she got to the bridge and noticed it was slippery-SHE SLOWED DOWN. And didn't cause an accident. Not that she had a perfect ride home, but she was careful and drove slowly. And you can rest assured he won't be on the road tomorrow until he knows it's safe. Me either. And as for the advice my father would have given me-he probably would have
  2. I didn't say that this ice is no big deal. Quite the opposite. But if our emergency services can't get out in this kind of emergency, what is this county to do if someone is in a serious life or death episode? And BTW, the way to drive on ice- S.L.O.W.L.Y!!!
  3. I agree, but no one was hurt (as far as we know). No ambulance ever came. Again, since it wasn't life threatening, why couldn't they move the cars, let the police and fire truck move on to the next serious accident (wherever that might be)
  4. I understand but I didn't have a computer at the time to check the scanner. Luckliy he had his phone and could let me know he was running late. I do understand that their were multiple wrecks. But how hard is it to slide a few cars off the bridge with some of those cars that are sitting there? Or at least give the people sitting there some info. That's really all I'm saying.
  5. Thank you. That's really all I'm saying. And most people at that time of day are on their way home from work for dinner. So they were probably hungry. But my hubby had leftover poptart from the morning, and a flask of scotch. So he wasn't terribly irate. Just mildly irritated.
  6. I do understand, but there were residents around there with their 4-wheelers. Why couldn't they have moved the cars off the bridge so that all the residents could get through - CAREFULLY AND SLOWLY. Many of those people lived with a couple miles of the bridge.
  7. In MOST (not all) instances I totally agree with you all. But tonight has shown exceptionally well how poorly our emergency system is. I can't believe that our 911 operators are telling people that our emergency vehicles can't drive in this. I understand it's happening over all of North Georgia, but to tell a resident that they may not get help until tomorrow, really?
  8. I am not one to bash our emergency services. My father was a fireman, I totally appreciate their devotion. But how can there be a 3 car accident on an icy bridge for 3 hours and not even a tow truck comes? About 5:45 tonight my husband came up Dabbs Bridge Road from 41 towards 61. He got to the big red barn before the bridge over Pumpkinvine Creek. He was stopped. And thought it would clear eventually. He had already passed at least 2 wrecks on DB. About 8, I called 911 to make sure it had been reported. Because nothing was happening. I was told by the operator that they were aware of
  9. A friend of mine told me to use peppermint oil. It's all natural and works great. You could also treat your yard with Seven dust. Good luck. We have the same issue. None in the house, but the dog scratches like crazy. I also heard if you vacuum to help get rid of them (which is what my exterminator said was best) use a flea collar and cut it up to about 1 inch sections and put it in the vacuum cleaner.
  10. Personally, I would call the nurse line on the back of one of your insurance cards. Talk to a nurse. Ask her if she has an infectious doctor name in this area. You really need to have bloodwork done. The motrin 800mg will reduce the swelling, make the pain ease because the swelling is not pressing on the vesells and muscles of your hand. It really sounds like some extra toxin is in your bloodstream. It could even be staph. You should definately see someone. I hope you did today and I hope that you are feeling better. I know what it's like to be in pain all day. I have back
  11. Love Kate and the whole gang. They are wonderful. I don't smoke, and I stop in there sometimes just to buy a few for my hubby and sit and chat. It's a great place to go and not have anyone demanding anything from you. And the chairs are so comfy. Hopefully we will be able to swing in there on the 25th. I had totally forgotten. Kate you need to do a reminder thing on FB. Love you guys.
  12. Cigar smoke is different Cigars and cigarillos produce harsh alkaline smoke, which allows nicotine absorption through the mouth but which is much less likely to be inhaled into the lungs Cigarette smoke is milder, acidic, and usually inhaled into the lungs, with much greater risk to the smoker. Risks of cigar smoking one-sixth the risks of cigarette smoking, but it depends how much smoke is inhaled. Risks for non-inhaling cigar smokers one sixteenth that of cigarette smokers. Risk for cigar smokers who inhale cigar smoke is equal to about 10 cigarettes a day. The risk of c
  13. All I'm saying is that your posts seem to let on that you think you're better than some people that smoke cigars. Many GREAT scholars of the past smoked cigars and pipes. It's not the same as cigaretts. I hope you undeerstand that the cigar shop has many, MANY, patrons that enjoy their leisure time. And don't plan on letting someone harrass them into not going. I don't think you have the power to shut down the businesses in Hiram, I think you are discouraging people from patronizing any establishment in Hiram, including your dance studio. I know I don't want my kids going to a dance
  14. I haven't been on p.com in quite a while, probably 18 months or so. Mostly because of nonsense like this. Why do a few people have to go around bashing other people with habits and lifestyles that are different from your own? I mean, really? 1. I agree with LPPT about the noxious fumes that come from some people, and the carbon monoxide from cars. 2. What's to say that you aren't putting your children in harms way by taking them to a place right by the railroad tracks. Perhaps trains emmit some kind of harmful fumes. What about any homeless person that may live under the RR bridge? Wh
