  1. Do people still want the same things.

Do they want to speak openly and freely about relevant subjects in their community.

P.com allowed that. The lines on the road were quite liberal.  People were simply ask to adhere to the barest minimum of civility. This in itself was off-putting to some, that people were allowed to speak to others in that manner.

On the other hand because it was the internet and folks were anonymous they felt they should be able to say anything in any way. No matter what you think it was crazy popular and successful.

The more constraint the less popular, there was a difference of opinion on who should be constrained.

Therefore it had to be destroyed.

The question is are we as a community better off with it gone.

Is it better to just have message boards for like minded folks? Is tribalism better for humanity in general? Or is it a cop out for those that find it just to tedious in general.

  2. It comes down to the persistent arguments of politics and religion.

It was pervasive and effected every part of the site.

There were hardly ever any discussions, there were arguments, many nasty and almost impossible to moderate.

My focus was always the news and commerce I felt it was a true service to the community.

I have gone back and looked at so many threads and all the fun.

Towards the end the persistence of those topics and the destruction they created began to get to me.

I likened it to allowing someone yo walk into your home or business and take a dump in the middle of it.

I see the destructiveness of it on all social media and overall to our country in general.

We should have stuck to the rules of polite society. Paulding county would still have a news source and small business would have a chance to get a start here.

Now all we get are corporate business and politicians that freely do what they please.

Nobodies mind ever got changed enemies were made and kept even to this day.

I said long ago these people will destroy what they can not control.

This is the purpose of religion and politics, to control people.

History is full of examples were both have destroyed and killed what they could not control.

Paulding.com did not stand a chance, it became consumed and eventually destroyed by these 2 things and the ability to persuade people that in the end it was not worth it.

I became some what bitter towards the end, I felt powerless to stop what was happening.

  3. Katy is the one in heart failure. Still as cute and sweet as ever. Maddy the manx cat just walked away one day and never came back. About 2 years ago we lost 5 pets in one year all from old age. I great pyr died of prostate cancer suddenly that year.

    Not sure about any more.

I say that but there was a stray puppy in the garbage on the porch 2 nights ago, emaciated with a shock collar imbedded in his neck. He is a coon dog around 6 months old. I am going to rehome him. He is super well behaved, I just dont want another big dog or a working dog which he is.

  4. I have 2 grands 12 month and 3. 5 chickens, 3 little dogs. Katy is very old. I have a Jack Russel that is full of herself. I have Surepips little dog Daisey. I adopted her when my best friend Surepips widow went through a hard time after he died. Mostly I hang around the house with my dogs and chickens, work in the garden. I have been driving my son around for the last 3 years. that is another story.

I am sorry for all your losses, it changes you a person.

  5. One of the best friends I made was Johnny J. We had so much fun. He road shotgun with me to so many things. He went with me to cover a lot of stories. There were a lot of networking events he went to after hours to help. Not many people knew the full extent of what I went through with the Lyme disease. I had it for 10 years. I had serious relapses. It effected my vision, my cognitive abilities and I was often in pain. He would often help me when posting. Sometimes I still to this day can not identify a misspelled word or when I leave out words that would sometimes change the meaning of what I was trying to say. I remember when he shared the post on here of the little white chi that is Katy. I dropped everything to go get her.

Johnny J said she was the first dog that ever liked him. She was the first dog my dad every liked. I lost JohnnyJ. and my dad so close together.

I basically lost the p,com that I knew soon after also.

I still have great friends I made on here. Some moved away, more have passed away. I still believe in the goodness of many in Paulding county. A lot of really good hearted people here.

Katy is still my best bud, she is in heart failure but we hope to have her another year,

  6. I made some of the best friendships of my life.

I met a lot of awesome people

    I learned so much

I saw so many people helped

    I learned about my community

I had endless hours of fun

It was always better than tv

I could reach out for laughs, companionship.

You could find a lunch buddy in 5 minutes

You could avoid a traffic jam

I remember hours of jamming to music videos with endless glasses of wine.

You could pull together a peep party in days.

We had so much fun on here.

We did share some tragedies along the way.

    We lost some great folks

Over all it was great, it was fun and I miss it at times as do many who loved to come here for the good.

I wish we would have followed the rules of polite society because we would still have had a treasure.

  7. This is what I actually learned about discussing both topics.

You are discussing peoples most inner life, often informing them they are wrong or confirming their beliefs.

A persons political and religious beliefs are based on their experiences, their lives, every moment of every day.

All the terrible things that have happened and the good too.

This is where they truly live.

These are the controlling entities of their lives. This is a persons very existence in the social structure.

No 2 persons experiences are exactly the same, but many are similar. This is why one should always tread carefully when discussing the ruling factors of a persons life.

Maybe the religion should be respect, the political the enforcement of respect.

Neither should be a form of entertainment

When one insults someone's religious or political beliefs you disregard their life experiences, the beliefs that keep body and soul together.

These days we do it casually, we cut our friends, our family, and our neighbors to the quick. We proclaim their life experiences as irrelevant.

A society can not sustain this that is why one of the rules of society was adhered to. Nobody wins when society falls apart.

  8. This one was pretty deep. Is there a time and a place to discuss both?

Would it be only with people you are pretty sure are close to believing as you do?

Would it be with family since blood counts.

Would it be with people you don't like and therefore don't care about a relationship.

Is it ok with people you hate and therefore can hate more.

Maybe with people you love and respect and want them to be better informed?

  9. Ahhh peer pressure. Peers are good unless one is being driven into a corral or even worse over a cliff.

I remember growing up asking my mother to go with a group to certain things or asking for things they had.

She would say no and I would say but everyone is doing it.

Her immediate answer was I don't care if everyone is doing it. If they all jump off a bridge are you going to do it too.

I have seen a lot of things over the years that groups of kids were doing and seen a few tragically maimed or killed.

I have seen a lot of pain from it too.

Like when your peers expect you to disown, mistreat, and throw your gay child into the street. Send them to therapies as proof that you have done everything possible.

What kind of peer group demands that you hate your child.

In fact the glue in many peer groups is hatred. The leaders often feed that hate because it creates adhesion and fear just like in any herd fear is what cements the bond.

My mother taught me to judge all groups of people  maybe too much because I don't identify with groups and consider none my peers. I find little or no solace in belonging in being forced to go along with things I feel are wrong to be accepted. I see the manipulation of fear and very little reward other than someone assuring the worse did not happen.

  10. I noticed when Mr. Zuckerberg began to try to control the massive amount of misinformation being published on social media there was a great out cry against moderation. Claims of hidden agendas against groups and individuals. People leaving to never return to the evil social media that would not allow them the information they craved, that refused to uphold their beliefs and values.

Truthfully Mr. Zuckerberg upholds the belief of the American people in pursuit of wealth above all things.

The government interferes with this by objecting to his platform that is 100% pay to play. Meaning as long as what you publish keeps people engaged then by all means publish what you want. It indeed hurt him as people went to other platforms where they served up only what people wanted to hear. Where there was a guarantee that dissenting views would have no voice.

This brings us to the joys of peer life. The comfort of being nestled deeply in the comforting bosom of ones peers. Right or wrong one can belong.

  11. There is however a responsibility to the community. There is a responsibility to humanity. Ukraine is a prime example of the horrors that can be visited upon humans when social media is totally and completely controlled by evil entities. Do you allow social media to freely be used by evil people with total disregard for the safety of humanity. Do you allow people to demand more and more of the entity that influences them towards the destruction of their lives. Is it one responsibility to shut it down. These are the real issues facing social media.

  12. Here we go again with the question of accountability in social media. Zuckerberg finds himself front and center once again.

Do you hold people accountable for what they post on social media or social media for what they allow on their platform. After all one is providing a service that allows people to self publish. Social media is not much different than the printing business. You have the equipment to print, to publish and to distribute. Granted it is now done in a few seconds rather than days.

I guess it comes down to credibility and desire.

Some saw it as a way to simply communicate with those they click with. That is not really what social media is. Group texting is a way to communicate with folks you click with.

You quickly learn that people into social media love an audience, they want to be heard, they crave reaction. Take away audience and the keyboards go dead.

There are some that believe that the platform should allow any and all some would want to exposé humanity to.

It was quickly discovered that it was like handing a child a piece of candy for every meal, eventually the child dies of starvation. Nobody truly wants an anything goes social media platform, like a child they simply want their own way 100% of the time.

This is where social media runs into the weeds. Finding real humans to listen to the temper tantrums constantly. There are a few phases mental change until burnout is complete. Congress does not truly understand what Mr Zuckerberg is being ask to do. It is impossible to control the millions of people on social media from all over the planet.

  13. Justification is a slippery slope .We had a neighbor years ago that kept a pristine lawn. I would have coffee from time to time. She had a neighbor on the other side that I barely knew just to wave or smile. She could not stand this neighbor for some reason. Finding fault all the time. She complained to me about the little dog piddling on her lawn turning it yellow. I never saw a spot. She told me she was going to pour something on the neighbors ;awn to make yellow spots on hers. I said that is a little extreme just talk to her. Some time later she started complaining about the dog barking so she wanted to start playing her music loudly to get back at the neighbor. I pointed out that the other neighbors would be effected, she said once I tell them about the barking they will want me to teach her a lesson. The next claim was poop on the lawn she just knew came from the dog. She was going to dump her cat box on the neighbors lawn to show her. Next the dog chased her cat near to death, she was going to shoot the neighbors dog with pellets. I am coming around to her side obviously the owner has allowed the little dog to become a nuisance. She is ranting constantly about the hell the little dog and owner has become. I am on her side at this point something has got to be done. The last straw is when she tells me the dog has come into her yard viscously trying to attack her. Surely the neighbor got the message after all her lawn has been burned, music blasted, cat litter dumped on her lawn. The ladies in the coffee circle are suggesting outrageous retaliation, run it over, feed it rat poison, call animal control. Their friend is in hell with this neighbor and dog.

I being a loyal friend decide that when the women gets home from work I am going over their to tell her off and threaten to get animal control to take the dog. I ring the bell and in a few moments I hear this persistent raspy sound on the other side of the door. I can't quite make it out. A voice yells just a minute. I hear this gentle voice as talking tenderly when the door opens. The neighbor is holding a tiny dog, obviously extremely old with no teeth. It is barking at me in a tiny raspy voice as the lady says can I help you. I sit there just looking at the dog and her. She sets the little thing down and it totters a away on crooked arthritic legs. I ask her if she has another dog to which she replies no. This was her mothers dog that had passed away. I tell her I am sorry about her mom, tell her thank you and just walk away.

I learned about justification that day I and our friends were being manipulated to justify our friends nasty behavior towards this woman. I drifted away from that women, a few of the others too. I guess once you believe you believe, once you have pitched in with the justified persecution there is no turning back or turning inward.

I got to know the lady with the old dog later, It seems she had been sun bathing on her deck one afternoon. The ladies husband had persisted in trying to talk to her. When the lady came out and saw she was very nasty, not towards her husband but the women for sunbathing.

She had been nasty ever since.

    That is justification.

  14. Familiarity breeds contempt. I never understood that one when I was young. I never understood it until I was on p.com for a few years. It is why tribalism is full of so many pitfalls.

What we do behind the closed door in our home is not just our business, it is where we are comfortable. It is where we build a world of comfort and acceptance. When we communicate with others in that environment we communicate from that place. The place where we make the rules, where we decide what behaviors are acceptable. We post on line many times from our safe place, our soft place, the place we protect from outsiders. The internet brings the outsiders to our inner sanctum.

  15. Tribalism, as a last resort there is a stab at tribalism. Like is attracted to like. On the internet you can't see the tribe clearly. What costumes do they wear. What is the color of their hair, their skin? is their an accent to clue you in? How do you identify your tribe on a computer screen. Do you take clues from what they type, do they self identify as friend or foe. Perhaps they can be persuaded to somehow Identify themselves so you can label them if only in your own mind as friend or foe. And then what, you carve out your territory, you control it, you landscape it accordingly. Then what do you do your own thing, in your territory having what you call fun and doing your thing? When all the like folks are doing all the like things they always get bored, what is the fun of tribalism without enemies.

  16. What horse, I was musing to myself about the demise of social media. How's the view down there? Surprised to see anyone even bothering to stop by. I suspect that a few might have notifications turned on. They sometimes drop by to say Look we destroyed it come play in our sandbox. Maybe they will pop in with and invitation for you to stroll on the righteous side.

  17. In the beginning, there was fun, there was news, and there was opportunity.

Forums seemed a good idea, after all we are all different and we like different things.

We could talk with others that had similar interest.

Some topics were should we say not everyone's cup of tea. We will put those behind a clearly marked curtain in the back. But with all things hidden and murky and dark, dark things were said and done.

Well dark things cause dark emotions, dark emotions shared in the sunlight of the common forums.

The grudges and anger at the dark characters looked quite different in the light with no explanation as to how people could behave that way towards someone on the internet, what did they do to cause such hatefulness.

Forums indeed were not the answer.

Back porch topics should stay on back porches in real life.

  18. No back doors, no forums to speak of. A lot of junk just of archived. Most of the crap in there was mud used to sling at someone. Tried to get rid of political and religious forums and talk period. Lost a lot of important facts about the county and people in the process. Hey if you can't control it just burn it to the ground right. The FB pages are full of people desperately trying to inform folks and promote their small business. If you can't control it you need to destroy it for everyone. County is basically closed to outsiders now. I just opened it up one day and saw that it was empty and decided I could just run around the playground jumping on anything I want. the bullies are not blocking the swings and slides anymore. LOL!

  19. It is sad to see the post where people have returned most looking for honest news about the community. People asking what is up, where can we go, what can we do. Some just wanting to socialize and laugh. It was all destroyed over a power struggle, tribalism. The destruction of something because it could not be fully controlled by one tribe or another. All the good things were destroyed, who wants to control a pile of crap because that is exactly what it came down to. Now the members of the tribes attack one another, they fight one another, they insult each other. One leader after another more dishonest ,nasty and controlling than the last. As long as the peers are going along it does not matter how immoral or distasteful everyone else is accepting and going along. How many times does a lie have to be repeated until it becomes the truth.

  20. What happened to p.cpm. It brought the community together, It provided local news. It was an awesome source of advertising for small business. There are little or no effective ways for small business to advertise. There are no sources of local news. We are back to geography dictating the people we associate with. How could it be gone. Was it peer pressure, conformist, non-conformist. maybe politicians that operate best in the dark. Tribalism became the rule of the day. A fight for control rather than a celebration of true freedom. I can only assume the need to be controlled is a strong one the freedom that only goes as far as deciding who or what you want to have control of. Nobody wanted politeness and honesty enforced. Politeness is crucial because it is integral to civil discussion. Insults are how discussion is turned into arguments. Arguments are uncivil by nature and create grudges. Lies are always wrong because a good decision has never been made based on a lie.

So indeed it was tribalism, insults and lies that destroyed this site. The same things are destroying our communities, cities, states and eventually our nation.

A wise person once said to me that for society to succeed individuals must be committed to following the rules. Rules of politeness and honesty, not just when it is easy or it suits someone's purpose but all the time.
