  1. The school should be sending out more information regarding PTA membership within the next week. Also, you may join at the PTA Meeting. This date has not been announced yet. Just keep checking your childs folder for announcements. I really like Northside Elem. and the teachers there. We had approx. 200 kids redistricted to Burnt Hickory this year. We did gain some students from Dallas Elem. District. The school "population" is much smaller than last year.

    Great Administrator's too!

Actually, when you join the PTA at Northside you are given an calendar magnet with dates for all PTA functions and meeting as well as school holidays. It's a great way to quickly look at the schedule on the fridge.

Also, in school newsletter, upcoming dates and events will be listed! Just look in the bookbag or folder.

  2. There were 2 candidates for the school board that were not present for the debate. Theresa Phillips opponent was not present and neither was the oppenent to David Martinez.

If you go back and look at the Paulding News videos, Pubby interviewed Austin and asked him why he was not at the debate. I can't remember exactly what his response was so I am not going to try and quote him in this post. PM Pubby and I am sure he can tell you exactly when he interviewed David Austin.

I watched the video. He said he didn't go to the debate bacause his paid consultant advised him not to based on rules of engagement that they wanted, panelists, and they wanted the questions ahead of time. Well that wasn't hardly the questions that I would have liked to hear him answer. The panelists at the debate asked some very good questions that I would have like to hear Austin answer.

  3. I don't know why that question wasn't addressed.

I know I have a business website that has over 20 pages of detailed information, and I get questions every week that I hadn't addressed before.

    It is what it is.

I can understand that you can't list everything that anyone would ever ask, but your bio should have your work experience detailed to a point that it reflects your ability (in Austins case) to manage a county. His business is selling himself, not any other tangible product, so I would expect more info.

Thanks, I'll look at the pcom news video for the interview.

Sounds to me like Mr. Austin really needs the income from the chairmans job, since the only work he can get is working for his dauaughter.

That's really not a fair comment. He may have made some good investments from being successful that has allowed him not to have to work.

  4. Jaydee is a resale agent for a big firm (Keller Williams, maybe?) She is NOT involved in development or building or anything other than the usual resale of existing homes. David has been involved, he told me, in placing signs for her, showing properties, and generally being available to help her. He apparently has done well financially, and is coming out of retirement to run for Chairman. Hope this helps.

Thanks! So he retired a couple of years ago and the past couple of years he helped out his daughter. I can understand that. Why didn't the website just say so?

I think someone is fishing for Shearin votes, but they are about 4+ years too late and a million+ dollars short. LOL!

Just that right wing consipiracy bent that I have.....OH sorry....I just wanted some answers to some reasonable questions.

  5. Austin is a down to earth person who has already explained a prior commitment on that day. Shearin isn't.

I can understand a prior committment to a picnic or something, but to the debates? All sheriff's candidates were there and I think most school board candidates were there. I would think it should be so important that it would trump most all other plans. But maybe I am wrong. I was looking to see him in person and hear what he has to say and not the mailers that I receive (that I use for bird droppings).

  6. I was leaning towards Austin but after he showed up at the Hiram celebration Sat interacting with everyone like one of us and down to earth dancing and having a good time I'm convinced he is one of us. Shearin didn't even bother showing his face but I guess he figured that he had better not.

I have been watching the debates on channel 16 and Austin wasn't there. What's your point?

  7. I am Jaydee, David's daughter and I want to answer your question before I head to bed to prepare for the BIG day tomorrow. I appreciate you taking the time to ask.

After graduating from West GA College with a degree in marketing/management he owned three dry cleaners for several years. He then went into copier sales, then copiers management starting as a salesman then working his way up to General Managers of a few copier companies. He has worked for Acme Business Products, Danka, Zeno, and Standard Office Systems in the copier industry. After leaving corporate management after 30 years he then bought part ownership in an ATM company called Cash Transactions and managed that business for several years then sold his interest in that business two years ago. At each company he has worked for he has always at least doubled the sales volume. After selling his part in the ATM company he has helped me in my real estate business.

I hope this information helps as you make your decision of who to vote for. I think what makes him the most qualified for the position is his background and experience in managing businesses and managing people. He also has considerable knowledge of this county and the needs that it has. He has been studying this county's government and identifying the problems that need to be changed for years. It is time for a change.

    We would appreciate your vote.

Thanks for letting me know his past experience. One more question, for the past two years, you said he was helping you in your real estate business. What did he do?

  8. Being on the fence, I decided to take a look into Mr. Austin's background. I was curious how he made a living and how that would give him the experience that he needs to run our county. His material and supporter said he was not a 'developer'. On his campaign website, I found the following:

A 1968 graduate of Dallas High School and a graduate from the University of West Georgia, David earned a BBA degree in Marketing and Management.

David has spent 30 years in corporate management and is known for his ability to grow companies from local entities to nationally recognized profitable companies.

My question is what companies has he 'grown' into nationally recognized profitable companies and why do I have to ask about his past experience. Shouldn't that be on his website?

I am sure I will be enlightened. But please be factual.

    Concerned voter.

  9. I was told to contact Northside's principal, as they are in charge of getting a police officer out there. That might not be 100% true, but the person who told me that should know what he was talking about.

I would encourage everyone to let Ms. Sholder know how they feel about this dangerous intersection. I literally feel like the human version of Frogger.

Also call Paulding DOT. They are the ones that can get the issue in the forefront. Then kids could also ride the bus. That would make the problem with traffic go away!

  10. I'm not sure what anyone could say about our neighborhood that can't be said about any other neighborhood. We have over 280 homes here and yes, there are going to be some people that do not keep their homes and property up to the standards

that US as an HOA have VOTED on. This is a neighborhood with protective covenants. If you don't like that, don't move here!

I think there have been lots of problems in so many nieghborhoods with the low or no interest loans that have taken a toll on the community. Heck, Bentwater has foreclosers. We have a georgous amenities area for the money that we pay. I love this place, there are many fine families here! POOHPOOH on the realators that don't come to show houses here! They are loosing money!

  11. Pubby is right. These guys need to be contacted and we need to let them know how we feel. This is a very important initative that shouldn't succomb to political manuevering. Here are their numbers.

  12. I have never been to Jekyll Island, but after reading these post, this song come to mind. I guess one mans heaven is another mans hell. <_<

MEEEE TOOOO I'll say it again!

I have been writing my congress people on HB 214 (now in the senate). One thing that really upsets me is our Speaker of the House, Mr. Richardson, said "Can you imagine if a Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons or something like that, a St. Regis, came in there, and each one of them took over one of the golf courses, developed the villas around them and a hotel on the beach?" Well if JI becomes HIS dream, me and my family will not be able to afford it. HB214 has the speaker over the committee that will make some very important decisions there. Also, besides re-juvination developers have their eye on the south end where the 4H center and soccer complex is. That's one of the most beautiful beaches that I have ever seen!

Anyone who likes Jekyll needs to write to their congress people and ask them to preserve the south beach area!!

  13. There are major battles over all of this right now, from what I've read/heard. And rightly there should be. On one hand, it would be great to have the island spruced up a wee-bit, and more offered for the vacationing crowd. On the other hand, it will take away much "let's relax, and go for a bike ride" that Jekyll is known for. You know? All you have to do is drive over to HH or SS and you can see what "progress" has done. (My sister lives on SS.)

  14. Jekyll is my family's FAVORITE place. We find plenty to do there. The pier and the beach at the north end are great for fishing and seining, the bike trails are great, the Nature Center is a fun place to visit, the beaches are great, turtle walks in the evening and there are no huge crowds. I guess is all depends on what your family likes to do. The restaurants do have some improving to do. But we usually cook fresh seafood at our rental.

There will be major changes over the next several years at Jekyll. They are going to do some re-development and have lured developers by extending the leases. That may be good, but it could turn Jekyll into another Hilton Head or St. Simons which would be bad for me.
