PSCO re-unites toddler with mother in Scoggins Road incident

Juvenile Reunited With Mother

A local resident living in the vicinity of Hart Rd and Scoggins, rescued a two-year old wandering down the road at about 8 a.m. this morning and alerted the Paulding Sheriff's office of the find.

Apparently the child made his early morning exit through a pet door of the parents home and in the spirit of discovery, found the community willing to keep him safe and help reunite him with his mother.

That happened when the child's frantic mom called the SO and was told her child was safe.

Deputies did visit the home and noted that all doors were locked leaving them to surmise the child apparently found an alternative exit from the home through the "doggy door."  The SO press release (below) noted that the investigation found no evidence of negligence or neglect and filed this incident in the do right file.
On 06/20/2018 at approximately 0800hrs, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office received a call regarding a citizen who had found a child that appeared to be alone. The child was approximately 18-24 months old and was walking down the roadway near the intersection of Scoggins Rd and Hart Rd.

Deputies and Investigators met with the citizen and brought the child, who appeared to be unharmed, to the Sheriff's Office. Deputies and investigators then began attempting to locate the child's parents immediately.

A short while later, the mother of the child called dispatch to report her two year old missing. Investigators then reunited the child with the mother.

All of the doors to the home were locked and secured, however the juvenile appeared to have found his way outside through a "doggie door" and began walking. The home was in the immediate area of where he was located. As a result of a lack of apparent negligence, charges will not be brought against anyone in this case.

Hiram High School Senior Arrested for Gun on Campus

beline.JPGA Hiram HS senior, poised to graduate in a ceremony tomorrow, will instead be sitting in the Paulding County jail as his classmates receive their diplomas ... because of a gun he secreted in his car.

Notice that the student may have a gun came from this Instagram® photograph where he proudly (or stupidly) displayed the weapon in his waistband.

Authorities say there is little concern that the 18-year old student was planning any kind of mass school shooting but current law states that it is a felony to have a weapon on school grounds.  The school resource officer, who monitors the social media pages of students for hints of what's going on, observed the photo.

Here is how the SO described the incident in which the Brian Perry Belin, Jr. faces felony possession of a firearm on school grounds charges.

On Friday May 25, 2018 at approximately 9:51 AM School Resource Officers with the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Hiram High School senior for possession of a weapon on school grounds. Paulding County Sheriff’s Office School Resource Officers constantly monitor social media outlets looking for nefarious activity amongst students.

This morning at approximately 9:01 AM School Resource Officers observed a photo that had been posted on Brian Perry Belin, Jr.’s Instagram® page where he had what appeared to be a semiautomatic pistol in his waistband.

In light of the numerous tragic incidents at our schools across the country, School Resource Officers and school administrators wasted no time in launching an investigation into this incident.

Belin, Jr., who was scheduled to graduate from Hiram High School tomorrow morning, was removed from graduation practice this morning and asked about the photograph and the gun by School Resource Officers and administrators.

Belin, Jr. told administrators that the gun was inside his vehicle which was parked on campus. When administrators searched Belin, Jr.’s vehicle, they located a loaded semi-automatic pistol that matched the one that was pictured in the Instagram® post.

Belin, Jr. was subsequently arrested and charged with the following offense: Brian Perry Belin, Jr. (B/M, 18 YOA)
-Possession of a Weapon on School Grounds (F)
School Resource Officers and administrators with the Paulding County School District are still actively investigating this incident. It should be noted that we do not believe that this suspect had any intention of conducting a school shooting at Hiram High School.

However, it is uncertain what Belin, Jr. was doing with the pistol on school grounds. It also does not appear that the photograph was taken on school grounds either. This portion of the investigation is ongoing.

Belin, Jr. is currently being held without bond in the Paulding County Jail.

If you or your child have any information about this incident or any other incident where school safety is in question, please feel free to contact the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office at (770) 443-3010 or the Paulding County School District at (770) 443-8000.

Sheriff's office concerned over social media coverage of teen suicide

(Paulding County, GA) On Monday March 12, 2018 at approximately 8:04 AM a 911 call was placed to Paulding E-911 regarding a body that was located on the side of the roadway in the area of Pleasant Grove Road and Majesty Drive which is in western Paulding County.

Once Deputies and first responders arrived on scene they quickly discovered that the male was deceased. After a canvas of the area, it was discovered that the male victim lived at a residence in the area. According to Detectives and a preliminary examination by the medical examiner at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Atlanta, the injuries that the male sustained were consistent with that of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The victim has been identified as a 15 year old white male and contrary to some false reports, the victims hands were not bound behind his back. Due to the fact that the victim is a juvenile, we will not be releasing his name or the school he attended. Prior to first responders arriving on scene, it was reported that a Paulding County school bus passed by the scene and some students may have seen the victim lying in the grass beside the roadway.

The Paulding County School District is working with the affected schools and students to help them cope with what they may or may not have seen. It must be noted that there has been some speculation from certain individuals and sites on social media regarding this incident.

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office is a professional law enforcement agency that conducts all of the law enforcement operations for unincorporated Paulding County. We would encourage everyone, who wants factual and accurate information, to trust our website, press releases, and social media sites and not share and follow sites that post inaccurate and false facts about incidents that occur in Paulding County.

The Sheriff’s Office disseminates information to the public when it is appropriate, factual, and at a time that does not hamper or hinder an investigation. We do not always have the luxury of making quick statements in cases like these that may not be factual just to appease a certain site or group of individuals.

At no time during this incident did Deputies or Detectives feel as if the public was in danger. Teen suicide is a grave problem in the United States and should be taken seriously.

If you, or someone you know, is struggling with suicidal thoughts, substance abuse, depression, or any other ailment which might lead to suicide, please get some help as soon as possible. If you need help you can call the Georgia Crisis Access Line at 1-800-493-1932.
