Baby Close Your Eyes
Sun is creeping down
Behind the hill
Everything is calm
Everything is still
So baby close your eyes
And rest your weary mind
Let me hold you close I'll sing you this lullaby
Let your worries go
You fall asleep
Think of nothing more
Memories will keep
Your dreams will turn to gold
And you will wake and find
That you'll hold a smile all day from this lullaby
Maybe somewhere in the silence
You will wake and you're alone
Just call out and I'll be there
Even when I'm gone
Each day will end
So I'll say 'goodnight'
'Til we meet again
Now baby close your eyes
And rest your weary mind
I'll let you know the joy you bring
you this lullaby
"Bring It On Home"
You got someone here wants to make alright
Someone who loves you more than life right here
You got willing arms that'll hold you tight
A hand to lead you on through the night right here
I know your heart can get all tangled up inside
But don't you keep it to yourself
When your long day is over
And you can barley drag your feet
The weight of the world is on your shoulders
I know what you need
Bring it on home to me
You know i know you like the back of my hand
But did you know I'm gonna do all that I can right here
I'm gonna lie with you till you fall asleep
When the morning comes I'm still gonna be right here
So take your worries and just drop them at the door
Baby leave it all behind
Baby let me be you safe harbor
Don't let the water come and carry you away
You got someone here wants to make it alright
Someone who loves you more than life right here

And to Adwyn I sing: "she's not as pretty as you she's not as pretty as you no doubt about it she's not as pretty as you!"
But to all we sing "you are my sunshine, my only sunshine!"
Hello, is this Margaret?
Margaret, I know it's you, Margaret
Are you naked?
And when I get out, Margaret
I'm going to come over there with an egg beater
And a live chicken, and some peach preserves!
We'll have a good old time, Marga

now when i sing they both shout "MOM" meaning "please don't sing"

My Shuggie , My Shuggie Boogie .
over and over and over!
This is crazy but I hum Silent Night all year long to him.
If it soothes him, I'd do it too...my mom always sings Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire..isn't that called The Christmas Song?

My Mom sang it to me and my sister and it made us feel so special, so now I sing it to all my kids even those that I foster. But to them I especially sing a silly one that goes like this
"I love you Timothy oh yes I do, I love you Timothy and I'll be true, when you're away from me I'm blue, oh Timothy I love you" - I just have had newborns to love so far in my fostering years so they don't know the words, but somehow it makes me feel like they know that I love them and will miss them when they aren't with me. I sing it to my own kids too, but they love to sing it to their special brother and sister too to soothe them and that is the sweetest thing to see a 4yr old and 6 yr old do!!

I also hum the National Anthem.
I have to hum it cause I don't know all the words
That reminds me of this:

personal songs I sing are 'you are my sunshine" and "how are you miss mollyboo."
or whatever happens to come out of my mouth while I'm doing something mundane.
My favorite Lullaby for Bethany was "All through the night". I first heard the instrumental version, when I had Nicholas, but didn't learn the words 'til I had Bethany.
A song I made up for Beth when she was real little was,
"Bethany Boo,
Bethany Boo,
little, little Bethany Boo,
Bethany Boo,
Mommy loves YOU!
Little, Little Bethany boo!"
She still smiles when I sing it to her now (at 2yrs). She evens bobs her head back and forth with the tune!!

Hush a bye
Don't you cry
Go to sleep little baby
For when you wake
We;ll have cake
And all the pretty little ponies
Blacks and bays
Sorrels and greys
All the pretty little ponies
Now for my 2yr old, I made up a song when she was an infant and nursing. She had bad colic and I read that to help soothe, some babies like a monotone repetitious song. I sing to her...
Night night baby
Mamas baby
night night baby
baby girl
Oh now its night night
time to be sleeping
night night my baby
baby girl
Oh how I love you
You're my little baby
Night night little baby
baby girl
I still sing her to sleep with that song every night we snuggle for a bit and I sing to her
but you sure do feel smarter once you leave.

To my son, I sang "Sweet Baby James", one of my favs:
There is a young cowboy he lives on the range
His horse and his cattle are his only companions
He works in the saddle and he sleeps in the canyons
Waiting for summer, his pastures to change
And as the moon rises he sits by his fire
Thinking about women and glasses of beer
And closing his eyes as the doggies retire
He sings out a song which is soft but it’s clear
As if maybe someone could hear
(chorus)
Goodnight you moonlight ladies
Rockabye sweet baby james
Deep greens and blues are the colors I choose
Won’t you let me go down in my dreams
And rockabye sweet baby james
Now the first of december was covered with snow
And so was the turnpike from stockbridge to boston
Lord, the berkshires seemed dream-like on account of that frosting
With ten miles behind me and ten thousand more to go
There’s a song that they sing when they take to the highway
A song that they sing when they take to the sea
A song that they sing of their home in the sky
Maybe you can believe it if it helps you to sleep
But singing works just fine for me
- chorus -

When my daughters were young I would Sing "Bingo", "One, Two, Buckle My Shoe", I'm A Little Teapot", Itsy Bitsy Sider", and "Knick Knack Paddy Whack". I only sang to them when no one was around. By the time they were around 5 I stopped singing to them because I didn't want to embarrass them or myself.

Love Gun
j/k
We actually came up with a couple of songs on our own and sing them to our kids. Just little songs that mean nothing, but they truly enjoy. My oldest even came up with his own song before he could talk and would sing it back to us.

When Me & Sis were little I always remember how
my Mom would sing the " I Hate Bosco " song to us...
(yes my Mom is a bit weird...)
I hate Bosco,
and Bosco hates me,
Mommy puts it in my milk
and tries to poison me...
One day I fooled Mommy
and put it in her tea,
No there is no Mommy
to try and poison me...

So the song that I sang then was "I just can't wait to be King". He loved it. I would read a story to him every night at bedtime & usually would sing him a song too. Some of his favorites were:
Rockabye Baby
You are my sunshine
The little drummer boy & Away in a manager - at Christmas Time
Can you feel the love tonight - from Disney's The Lion King
A whole new world - from Disney's Aladdin
You'll be in my heart - from Disney's Tarzan
Reflection - from Disney's Mulan
Someday - from Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame
I sing all the time anyway to anyone who will listen & so both my son's were kinda stuck with the singing stuff.
Cole loves all Disney movie's & still does on saturday we are going down to Orlando & Walt Disney World for a week long vacation. He is so excited he can hardly sleep I hope he enjoys it. My husband & I will too, but Disney World just wears us out.
Hope that wasn't to many. Guess I got carried away or the memories were so fond that I just didn't want to stop.

"My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean"
and
"Fallen Embers" by Enya
Once, as my heart remembers,
all the stars were fallen embers.
Once, when night seemed forever
I was with you.
Once, in the care of morning
in the air was all belonging.
Once, when that day was dawning.
I was with you.
How far we are from morning.
How far are we
and the stars shining through the darkness,
falling in the air.
Once, as the night was leaving
into us our dreams were weaving.
Once, all dreams were worth keeping.
I was with you.
Once, when our hearts were singing,
I was with you.

My boy, Leej, never took a pacifier and never cared much for songs or lullabies, but he loves stories. Anything that starts with "Once upon a time, "
My baby baby, Chlo, like the eency weensy spider. It is like magic. When we were in the hospital it was the only thing that would calm her down, but she only wants momma to sing it to her. I won't ever forget her momma singing that to her. She likes to listen to the Enya's CD as well. I do not know the name of the song but it is #3 on the cd.

The boys are 20 and 13. Don't want them to think that is a good idea... EVER!!!
"Before He Cheats"
Right now he's probably slow dancing with a bleach blonde tramp,
and she's probably getting frisky...
right now, he's probably buying her some fruity little drink cause she can't shoot whiskey...
Right now, he's probably up behind her with a pool-stick, showing her how to shoot a combo...
And he don't know...
That I dug my key into the side of his pretty little suped up 4 wheel drive,
carved my name into his leather seat...
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights,
slashed a hole in all 4 tires...
And maybe next time he'll think before he cheats.
Right now, she's probably up singing some
white-trash version of Shania karoke..
Right now, she's probably saying "I'm drunk"
and he's a thinking that he's gonna get lucky,
Right now, he's probably dabbing on 3 dollars worth of that bathroom polo...
And he don't know...
That I dug my key into the side of his pretty little suped up 4 wheel drive,
carved my name into his leather seat,
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights,
slashed a hole in all 4 tires...
And maybe next time he'll think before he cheats.
I might saved a little trouble for the next girl,
Cause the next time that he cheats...
Oh, you know it won't be on me!
Ohh... not on me...
Cause I dug my key into the side of his pretty little suped up 4 wheel drive,
carved my name into his leather seat...
I took a Louisville slugger to both head lights,
slashed a hole in all 4 tires...
Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats.
Ohh.. Maybe next time he'll think before he cheats...
Ohh... before he cheats...

One of my favorites was the "Appalachian Lullaby"
"Well I love my baby sweet and fair
Got the sky in your eyes
The sun in your hair
I rock you to sleep
most every night
And I sing you this song while I hold you tight:
Sleep my baby
Nestled in your momma's arms.
While your father above
cradles you in his love
Safe and warm
Sleep my baby
Nestled in your mamma's arms....
Sleep my baby,
The angels keep you from harm."
Another favorite from that album was "Wings":
If I could, I would give you wings
To carry you out of the storm
They'd flutter soft around you and
You'd be safe and warm.
Wings, little wings--
Wings in the blink of an eye!
Soon your little wings will be
Big enough to fly.
Wow, what a nostalgia trip!
But really, it's a great album for parents of little ones. Check it out! I couldn't have loved it more to sing to mine when they were small.
And DUH...I forgot to mention the name of the album..."A Child's Gift of Lullabys"
Trust me, you'll love it!
