Thanks for a great 4 year run of state football play-offs! The dominance you have shown in both aaaa and aaaaa has elivated the counties reputation for high school football, and we look forward to returning to state next year with all the talent coming back. Good luck to the Hornets as you represent Paulding County in the state AAAA Play-offs!! We hope you can bring home a state championship!

That can't be true. In order for that to happen we needed to beat woodstock and harrison had to lose.

I dont think that is right....I believe Maritta's win puts them in he 4th seed. I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure it is Marietta.

Yes, looking at http://ga.prepcountr...010&s=1&class=5, it does have East playing Grayson next week.

My understanding when there is a tie in region standings, one first looks at head to head games. In the event of a head to head issue, one looks at the PAPG and take the team with the lowest. In this case, there are 4 teams with a 4-5 Region record putting all 4 in 4th place just on win/loss.

East Paulding PAPG 20.00
Marietta PAPG 21.00
Cherokee PAPG 26.00
Harrison PAPG 24.00

To make matters worse, there is no clear head to head winner.

EP beat Marietta but lost to Cherokee and Harrison

Marietta beat Cherokee and Harrison but lost to EP

Cherokee beat EP and lost to Marietta and Harrison

Harrison beat EP and Cherokee and lost to Marietta

This puts Marietta and Harrison as the team who won two of the three. Then looking at Harrison and Marietta only, Marietta takes 4th as the head to head.

So if GSHA has determined there is no winner on head to head, the it looks like East Paulding is in the play offs.

3. In case there is a tie between three or more teams and there are spots for all the teams in the playoffs, the region shall decide the seeding of the tied teams.

4. In case there is a tie between three or more teams and there are not spots in the playoff for all three teams, the following tie-breaking procedures will be used. NOTE: At any point in this process where a tie can be broken so that only two teams remain tied, consideration of head-to-head competition will be invoked. If the tie is completely broken for all teams involved at any step in the process, the tie-breaker process is completed. EXAMPLE: Teams A, B and C are tied for the 3rd and 4th playoff positions. No team has beaten the other two in head-to-head competition. When going to winning percentage against all teams in the classification, Team A is 75 %, Team B is 67% and Team C is 60%. The tie, therefore, has been broken and there is no need to go back to any head-to-head consideration. If Teams B and C had been tied with winning percentages of 67%, then head-to-head consideration would have been used to break that tie..

(a) If the teams that are tied have played during the regular season game and one team has defeated the others, the undefeated team has the highest placement.

( B ) If one team has not beaten all other tied teams, the school with the highest percentage of wins against the tied teams will have the highest placement. If the percentages leave two or more teams still tied, then revert to head-to-head records.

© If the tie can not be broken with head-to-head competition, then the percentage of wins in all games with teams in the same classification in Georgia (including region games) will be considered with the higher percentage team having the higher placement.

(d) If the tie remains after both steps "b" and "c" have been considered, the two teams that are tied will meet in a GHSA Tie-breaker Mini-game.

D. When a region uses a regular-season playing date for games that determine the seeding of its four playoff teams, all games in the region that night will have officials assigned separately from the regular season assignments. The Region Secretary will work with the GHSA office to coordinate this process.

According to GHSA rules above...

First - Schools with the highest percentage of wins against the tied teams will have the highest placement:

Marietta (2 wins) Cherokee and Harrison / Lost to EP
Harrison (2 wins) EP and Cherokee / Lost to Marietta

EP (1 win)against Marietta
Cherokee (1 win)against EP
Only won 1 regional game can not win #4th place – EP and Cherokee are out of the equation.

Second: If the percentages leave two or more teams still tied, then revert to head-to-head records.

Marietta beat Harrison

That would mean Marietta #4

Cuteyellowbug,

You could have let me dreamed a little longer today . . . <_< I was excited and full of energy thinking EP might have another game.

Yes, I just looked up the rules for this year. http://www.ghsa.net/...ules-procedures and would agree Marietta should be going based on those rules.

At first, I thought there may have been some other rule.

"2. In case there is a tie between two teams and the region does not have a different written tie-breaker plan." But the emphasis is on two teams. In this case, there are four teams. So then section 4 appears to be the governing rule.

"4. In case there is a tie between three or more teams and there are not spots in the playoff for all three teams, . . ."

I wonder if the officials at GSHA are scratching their heads trying to make sure the correct team is going. :o

I heard there was several players suspended from the team including some seniors. If EP is in the playoffs, will they get to play?

I am glad it is over! It has been a rough year for those kids.

Looks like they just updated the bracket again and now Marietta is the team in the playoffs.

Tough season, should be back strong again next year. Wish the seniors the best of luck in their future careers. For the underclassman, the 2010 season starts now for you all. I look forward to next years games, I'll be out there hootin and hollering, just being my crazy self. Hope to see you all out there next year. I want to wish the Hiram Hornets the best of luck in the playoffs, I'm sure you guys will have more than just your normal crowd at the games in the playoffs, usually fans of the other schools that aren't in the playoffs in the county show up and cheer for the other county team in the playoffs.

Gooo Raiders!!!!!!!
