My fur family and my human family have a bad flea problem. We have 3 cats and 1 dog. We have tried flea baths for the dog and the small cat, flea spray, vaccuming everyday, Advantage for the dog, frontline for the cats, and flea collars for the dog and small cat (2 older cats groom each other too much for flea collars) We also use a flea comb on all the cats daily. We don't know what else to do. Does anybody have any ideas that we have not tried yet and is anybody else having the same problem? Help please.

We are having a huge flea problem at our house too. We have put advantage on the cats, but still have the fleas in the house. My daughter and I are getting eaten up, but none of the guys are. We vacumn daily and put flea powder on the carpet for about an hour before we vacumn. We are planning to bomb the house this weekend. I went to the pet store and they said that since we have had so much rain, it has been the worst they have seen in years. I am intested in the feedback you get too.

if you put a baking pan down with a little water and dish soap in it...on the floor, under a night light at night, the fleas will jump at the light and fall into the soap water and drown. leave the pan up for a week or so and your flea problem should be nearly gone.

We did that a couple years ago when they were concentrated in the basement. I'll give that a try tonight and see what happens. I'll just have to make sure the animals don't drink the water.

HI...if you go to your vet and ask for 'comfortis' it is wonderful! It is a pill that they take once a month. It is great! Kind of like capstar if you're familiar with that. I guarantee no fleas on your pets! Once that's done, use whatever product you want to rid your house...the biggest thing to remember is to empty your vaccum cleaner bag immediately! Also, alot of people don't know that you need to 'douse' your baseboards because the fleas hide in there as well.

Hope this helps a little...

There is this neat shop in Hiram, it is a soap shop, and the lady that owns it makes all her own soaps, and bath products, AMAZING products by the way. But she has a peppermint mix she puts in a vial , and gives you a dropper it cost $5, I put it on my dogs and I havent seen a flea or tick since, we used to have a terrible flea and tick problem,

It smells great too!! pm sent.
Proud stay at home mom to 3 children.

I've taken the vacuuming one step farther. We have a new bagless kind, so after each time, I carefully dump the contents in a plastic bag, tie it up good, and put it in the freezer. haha bye fleas. Sorry, I take some enjoyment in that. I have also used capstar but of course it only works for 24 hours. I would love to take all of my animals to the vet for "comfortis" but like I said I have 4 and they won't even give me Advantage without seeing them.

I dont know what to use on your pets but we had a really bad flea problem in the house and I went to a local vet (we live in Rome) and bought some Virbac Knockout E. S. That stuff works miracles. Its in a tall light blue can with a dark blue lid. The evening after spraying it on the carpet and under all the furniture the little buggers were nowhere to be found. I was just reading on the can that it works for 7 months :yahoo: Apparently you have a flea problem in your yard too...they have to be coming in on you and your pets. Go to Growmart or ace hardware and get the 38% Permethrin(sp?) Its in a small brown bottle. You will need one of those pump sprayers for the yard. Mix as directed (it smells really bad but it works really good). I hope this works for you as well as it worked for us.

Capstar worked wonders for us. The dogs had relief within 2 hours! No problems since then.

for fleas in your house I talked to a bug man he said to use a mouse glue trap and put a night light above it and the fleas will jump on it.

I havent tried it.

I have dealt with flea problems this year too. I use Borax (washing powder) on my carpets and basement floor. You should vaccuum and then put the borax all over your floors then take a broom and work it into the carpet by swooshing your broom back and forth. Do not vaccuum for a week. Do this as needed but I only had to do it twice. Also change your vaccuum cleaner bag after each vaccuum. Fortunately Advantage has worked on the pets. If you pets go in and out of the house then you will also need to treat the yard.

My mom swears by borax. You can also put a flea collar in your vacuum cleaner (if it's bagless). That'll kill any of the lil suckers that are left in there after you empty it.

I too use the borax on carpeted areas, but we had an infestation in our (unfinished) basement. I went to ARCO (I beleive they are a commerce member) & bought their flea spray. It is amazing.

For the animals, I give them a capstar and the next day treat them with frontline.

Haven't seen any fleas for quite a while.

Also if you bathe the animal with original Blue Dawn, the fleas will wash right off of them & be dormant for about 48 hours. (I thought it killed them, so I took some of the fleas & put them in a bowl with saran wrap over it & after about 2 days they "came to" It was very depressing!)

I thank everyone who has given advice about fleas. I will do anything at this point. I have heard of using Borax but not salt. Will give it a try. My poor dog runs from me everytime I head into the bathroom because he thinks he's getting a bath. He's so clean he squeaks. But he does feel better afterwards though.

When we've had fleas, I have always used the flea-bombs stuff. You have to leave the house for a while, and cover up some things, but it kills em dead and ends the problem immediately.

I read somewhere that if you put a little bit of vinegar in your pets water bowl then they won't get fleas

I also recommend the Capstar 1st to initially kill all the fleas on your fur babies and have heard great things about the Comfortis pill. I tried to get it last time but they were out of the one I needed. I am definitely getting it next month though. Oh and, Diatomaceous Earth is great for sprinkling around or even on your animals for flea control.
