I have a rescued cat that I have had for about 9 years. She was (and still is) feral.
I had her spayed and kept her indoors for about a month, when I first got her. As soon as she went outside, I was never able to capture her again.
She is very sweet. She knows what "want a treat?" means. She comes and eats treats from me daily. Occasionally she allows me to pet her. She sleeps in the top of a darned tree a lot. Very strange cat, I'll admit.
But, I am about to move and need to catch her again.
My husband is wearing shread marks on his hands & arms from the last attempt to catch her.
Is there a way to ether her, or something to move her safely? I'd like to flea treat her. She will be kept indoors for a while to calm her back down, and for her to adapt to the new place. I have another (normal) cat that she will stay bonded with. I really need suggestions for this. I have a "Have A Heart" trap, that I use for opposums and crap when the grapes are getting ripe, but she knows, very well to stay away from it, so that is not an option. I'd be afraid of darting her, but I need to do something. I love my crazy cat and want to take her with me.
Please, help me save Friday (the cat). I got her on a Friday 13th and she was one terrified little black kitty, thus the name. laugh.gif

Any suggestions?

I had the same type of situation with a black fixed feral cat in my backyard. I used tuna and a trap from the animal shelter and she was fine. Although I do have an enclosed back deck that she ate on. But now she is a happy indoor kitty. Unless she is really smart maybe let her get hungry and try to use food to lure her in your garage or house.

She is way smart. I cannot give her liquid wormer, because she thinks I'm poisioning her if I mix it in canned food. She is very cautious of any change at all.
I've never been able to get her to step foot in the house or screened porch.
She does have a kitty door into a storage building that she uses. If I had a way of knowing when she was in there, I might have a chance, as long as I have an army of people there, as I open the door to it.

I need a kitty whisperer.

Go the shelter and pick up a trap, pay the deposit. Put a can of tuna in the trap. Take trap back to the shelter. smile.gif

Thanks, but I having been trying that. She walks WAY out of the way to avoid the trap. I even tried having the other cat go in & out of it, without tripping it, to make her think it was ok. I tied the thing open & tried putting their food bowl in it for a few days & she never ate a bite.
It is so hard for me to believe she is still so afraid of people!! Dang it!! I've been trying all these years for her to become a real cat, and my other cat thinks he's he's human.

Do you have a truck with a tool box? Put the tuna or kitty's favortie treat in it and when kitty gets in there close the lid and then you can put Kitty in a carrier. Kitty may be mad but when he/she figures out you are keeping the two of you together, it will be okay!

Well, use a cage for a few days; but don't set the trap - just keep putting tuna in it. If you can get her into it without using the trap; then one day, set it.

Another thought might be to wrap a big blanket around three sides of a crate or cage so it looks like a dark cave.

Or; set the cage/trap inside the building she uses.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Get a big fishing net...she will be ticked but you be able to catch her.

We have a cabin on Lake Weiss and the guy across the street did this and was able to catch a bunch of feral kittens and tame them and give them away.

That would be my suggestion. Maybe do both that and put it in "her" building.

Still no success. I got as close as putting her into my truck, but she was out before I could shut the door.

That of course made her more scared of me, so I didn't see her for several days.

I have the trap set now, with a little padding over the bottom and a towel over the top. I'm baiting with food all the way past the trigger and treats leading in. She has eaten the ones around the outside a couple of times but hasn't gone in.
Still trying.

If it was me, I'd eliminate the treats or just leave 1 or 2 within the beginning of the trap. The more treats you leave the less the food will be compelling.

For the food, go buy the cheapest smelliest tuna you can find - and it doesn't have to be cat food, actually people tuna is better. Have never seen a cat turn their nose up at something like that.

GOOD LUCK!

This works really well. Got 2 with 1 trap and just took in the 3rd today. As of 1200 hours they had 1 really nice trap that I left there. Kitty included. :pardon:
