Well, it came to me as "school house hearsay"
That's why I asked if there was anyone here who could verify or dispute it.
You know how kids start stuff.
Just yesterday the big rumor was that a girl was permanently expelled, now today it's this rumor.
Who knows?!?!?!?!

I know that yesterday on the scanner I heard that SO was called to the Middle School and then left there and went to the High School. I couldn't make out the CB lingo and why they were going there.

We'll have the complete story in a bit. For the record at this point, no person was taken to the ER although an 18 year old was tazed. Whether it was at SPHS or another school is unclear at this point. I can say the event occurred after school had dismissed for the day but was on a school campus. Check the fastread page for details within the hour.

Yes, It was SPHS. It was the first thing out of my nephew's mouth when I picked him up today. I'm leaving off the details he gave in order to not stir the pot of rumors anymore.... tongue.gif

From the account Pubby gave us, in my opinion, she got what she deserved! She apparently does not know how to behave.

From the account Pubby gave us, it would sound that way. My daughter witnessed the incident and said there was more to it than that. First of all, why did Pubby or anyone else feel that the height and weight of the accused child was relevant for this article? From my child's account, she said that the child had been teased by the other two girls relentlessly since last school year. Yes, she will and should be held accountable for her actions and no, i would not want the job of the resource officers or the administrators of any high school but how much can someone be expected to tolerate? she probably did not follow the proper chains either but having a child in school at approximately the same age, i can tell you that telling the admininstrators sometimes doesn't help your average school day. They try, but still can't stop people from commenting and making other kids feel inferior. The world is a very cruel place these days and I for one, hope that Tiara and the other two girls involved find some kind of guidance to help their situation.

If they can't control themselves then they need to find that guidance OUTSIDE of the public school system. Kids who are serious about learning can't when others don't behave. If she was being harassed by the other girls I believe that is covered by the rules against bullying. I feel sorry for her if she was mistreated but you have to deal with the behavior and what she chose to do cannot be allowed. It certainly does not excuse her attack (if that is what happened) on the resource officer.

Her height and weight may have been a factor in the method the officer used to subdue her. It would be relevant.

Because she a legal adult. she is 18. I think giving her size made it clear that this wasn't just a little girl that at 5' and 100 lbs that the PoPo couldn't just restrain!

She attacked another ADULT.... and the PoPo at that! Taz.....away.

My favorite part:

The two youths, whose names are withheld because of their age, were also charged with public affray (fighting in public) and disruption of a public school. Publicly charged in the incident is Tiara Darby, who, according to bookin records, is a 5-8 inch 190 pound black woman,

I was trying to find the resource officer - must have been on the job too long and forgot all the other restraint tactics that they teach you in the acedemy!

Sad that our police force is so quick to shoot with a potentially lethal weapon - but, then again, hopefully this chick now knows that beat cops are brutal and she'll avoid contact in the future. That's the end result we all hope for, learning a lesson.

I think it's sad that you think the resource officer might have reacted too quickly. It's his job to react quickly in order to prevent things from getting any farther out of control. I really think he did the right thing in this instance.

women are some of the hardest to restrain, if he didnt taze her he prolly woulda had beat the brakes off her to get her in cuffs. I have seen both. I would rather be tazed than beating........ Heck the girl is my size.

My grandfather always use to say that there was NOTHING worse then trying to break up a female fight. NOTHING. Considering he walked a beat during the race riots in Detroit, and still held to that claim, I will say he officer did the right thing. Of course we weren't there so none of us know for sure.

Wonders if it was a guy in a pink wig and high heels if the tazing would have been OK? biggrin.gif

If this happened to the resource officer who is usually at SPHS, this girl is BIGGER than he is. There is no way the guy is 190 lbs. Probably same height and 160 lbs. The girl's size would have been a factor--especially if she was attacking him and being completely irrational (obvious since she attacked him) BUT I don't see what her race would have to do with anything.

Race doesnt have anything to do with it. But its not wrong to included race in the details.

Have you ever read Middlesex? It's a really great book with a great amount of detail about your home state and the riots.

I enjoyed that more than the whole hermaphrodite thing.

yeah, he is not a big guy. He has been at East for many years and was transferred this year. I hate that this happened to this young lady, but if the RO was attacked she probably left him no choice.

I guess at the time the greek population was huge in Detroit (may still be??). Anyways, it's starts off during the war of Greece of Turkey and follows a family to Detroit to start a life, goes through the prohibition during the time and then on to a more modern day. It's really quite an interesting read on the city and culture and culture shift during that time. I blew through it.
