I've been thinking about doing this just because I like a green yard and will miss mowing it. what is your experience? I've read the rye grass labels and the Percentage of (other) tends to make me think there would be lots of weed seed in the mix. I used to do the over seeding all the time in FL when I had a bahia lawn, but no experience here in GA with Bermuda and Rye grass.

bermuda seed only takes when the ground is around 80 degrees. We planted pasture with bermuda so we had to be particular with when to seed. Fescue likes the cooler temps of fall. Rye does tend to have weeds in it so be prepared to use the weed and feed when the bermuda starts greening up in the spring/summer. A friend of mine who has the bermuda lawn that looks like a carpet, will not use rye because of the weeds. He said he used to do it but it was not worth fighting the weeds.

Thanks, that is the info that I was looking for. When I read on the package something like (3-8%) other I figured it would be weeds. With all of the rain this year, my bermuda is looking pretty good. I just picked up a new mower and wanted to continue cutting through the winter just to play with it. I may still do the over seed just to see how it does.

If you just want to use your mower, why not find someone with fescue and mow their lawn for free?

I have about an acre of fescue that you are welcome to come cut all winter if you'd like. Hell...why wait til winter? Come on over and get started! blum.gif
