My question has anyone elses children ever had to do this? Do they really teach them? Did your childrens grades improve after this? I will be calling the school today to ask these questions. Just wanted to see if anyone on here had any feedback to offer. My concern is that they won't be teaching him, they will just be babysitting him from 9-noon each day.

That's something new. I think it would be a great thing for students that are having a hard time with grades. I would see how many students will be in these classes. If there's only a few, then that extra help would help. If there's a bunch of kids, then I don't see how much it could help. I know some kids do better with a smaller ratio of teacher/child.
This would be a good question to ask.

I have never heard of this but if my child needed the extra class time I would have welcomed it. The teacher's must be giving up free time to do this. Sounds like a great idea to me. If you get more details please post them.

I haven't heard of such, for Paulding. My question would be "how many will be in class with my child"? If there is quite a few, three days hardly seems to be enough time to make a difference. What will actions will be taken if your child doesn't go? Why don't they offer him the EYP program if he needs help, that's what one of mine did.

It's only vacation time for kids who aren't needing extra help.

Sounds like a good idea to me. Do teachers volunteer to give up their vacation days to work (with pay)?

The note said if he didnt attend- There would be lack of evidence that can be used during an appeal/placement hearing for CRCT or re-test. Without evidence your child may not be promoted/placed to the next grade level.
For older kids denial of driving for a certain amount of time. And non- participation of graduation ceremonies for students receiving certificate of attendance.
I am still trying to find out how many kids in each class.

I agree this could be a great thing, if they will use it to teach and not play. I am so hoping it helps him, as well as the other children there. Why do they not offer this to more places? Is it because Polk had alot of schools not pass the CRCT tests?

They have been doing it for a while now and it is called 'intercession'. I agree with the poster who said that it would be beneficial as long as there is not a lot of kids. If it is a small group, I think it is great. The teachers do give up their free time, compensated of course, but still...I am sure they would enjoy the time off!

The year he went to summer school he asked if regular school could be like that. Short and to the point! No time for playing around. The students came in and got their assignments and got them done. Credit recovery classes are the same way. They come in do the work and move on. It is a great thing for ADHD kids. Quick assignments... no long drawn out time tables... no time for for students to horse around and disrupt the classes. I could go on.
The other thing he complains about are the students who are disruptive and disrespectful to the teachers. The teachers have no authority and the unruly students rule the class.
