I have a bamboo plant that I received as a gift probably 8 years ago .... anyway, it has three stalks (which are supposed to be green) and one is black (almost looks rotten) but the leaves on it are green and just as nice as the other stalks ... what should I do with it?
Also, it is growing by leaps and bounds ... I've repotted it once (about 2 years ago) .... currently it is in a glass container full of stones and water ... should I repot it again?
If so, should I use different materials for potting it?

They have to be kept in clean and fresh water and not allowed to stagnate. They also need lots of bright indirect light. I have had one stalk die myself but not sure why. Maybe you could check with a florist.

Actually, mine was doing the same thing and I did some research. Pull out the black dead stalks and change the water every other week withwarm water and wash off the roots. Also, what I read says they don't like direct sun and I think thats what was wrong with mine since it got direct in the morning on my kitchen table. I moved it to another location and will let you know how it's doing.
Good luck!
