Does anyone have info for me on the experience they have had with Tamiflu? We ended up at Cobb emergency room last night, at the direction of her pediatrician. Her temp was high, sore throat, vomitting, weak, lethargic, coughing, and with pains in her chest, back and ribs. They immediately tested her for strep- result was negative- so they told us they automatically label it to be "flu". The ER was packed with vomitting people- UGH. The majority of folks had masks on as well, and were coughing. Poor ER crew. Anyway, we arrived at the ER at 9:15 pm, we left to go home at 12:15 am.They sent us home with a script for an Albuterol inhaler, anti pain med, anti vomitting med, and Tamiflu. They also wrote out scripts for my husband and I for Tamiflu also, saying we will need to take it...

Tamilfu and Relenze are the only treatments we have to combat the flu once you have been exposed. I have taken both over the years with no ill effect, and they worked. I either did not get it, or had a much milder case.

I am sorry your DD was so sick. Bless her heart!!!!

(But, I have heard several news reports that the CDC does not recommend Tamiflu and Relenze be prescribed for the flu right now. A doctor on Good Morning America said they have asked that it not be used unless the case of the flu is severe. Just wondering???)

I don't really understand that because my doctor says you have to take Tamiflu within the first 24 hours that you first have symptoms for it to be fully effective. I don't know how you would know for sure if it was severe at that point. I thought the whole idea was to take it so it would not get to the severe point. huh.gif Sometimes they talk in so many circles i just don't know what is right.

It IS a challenge. Especially since some of the contraindications re: Tamiflu and teens, there is a risk, albeit slight, of confusion or self injury with teens and Tamiflu..at least that is one of the notices on the website. I know that the risk is slight, but it does give one pause!

I had the flu earlier this year and I had to take Tamiflu, and I gotta say, it was pretty nasty stuff. It helped the flu, but was incredibly icky due to several side effects.
