we were given the levels of what will happen when and if this flu breaks out... they are guessing 1- 5 years it will hit us in huge numbers...

there will be 5 levels of preparing for this flu...

The nurse said that as soon as they can get the staff informed on this , then students would be sumorized on this very dangerous flu..

They also said that if it gets to where the schools have to be shut down, then the schools would be used as hosiptals becasue of the huge out break, hosiptals would not be able to hold everyone... and she said that it would take months to get better from this... and that the vacine was being worked on., but some people would not be able to take the vacine..

always try to remeebr wash your hands... cover your mouth when you cough...

Pubby I thought of you when she was breifing us on this...

ok that's all I learned in school today ...

Lockheed Martin had one of those not too long ago too. Hubby said it was a bit odd to sit and listen to the whole thing.

Yeah, that pretty much is what they told them there too. All Lockheed employees and families are invited to stay onsite. Hubby said he probably wouldn't do that. I guess we'll find out what we do when and if it happens. sad.gif

From my understanding of this, it won't matter whether you homeschool or not. sad.gif

This would invlove anyone not just schools.. you can get it from grocery stores, doctors offices, anywhere...

so unless you keep your kids and your slef in the house 24 -7 with no out side contact then this would also involve you. wink.gif

wow that which does not kill you makes you stronger?
if you survived would you have antibodies for the next flu?
or does it keep getting worse?

are they saying it would be immune to our existing meds?

They are working on a vacine... They do not know if this vacine will work they will just have to see...

My boss ask the question today... what would happen if you could not take the regular flu shot, she is allergic to something in it, and the nurse said she did not know...

In the regular flu shot, I know that if you are allergic to eggs, you can't take it. I don't know how different this vacine would be though.

We did a little experiment this past fall. We have always been home schoolers .. this fall a few of my kids " tried " public school. They STAYED sick the entire time. And it wasn't just them .. my daughter's kindergarten class had over half the class absent one week. I took them out in November, because we got tired of it. Since then .. we haven't had one single episode of being sick. Coincidence ? I think not. Now being home schooled doesn't take you completely out of the line of fire .. it sure does make a HUGE difference. We have NEVER had pink eye, strep, mono .. none of that crap until public school .. Never again.

We have caught things from the doctors office as well. I told my pediatrician .. what is the point of " well child " checkups .. just to catch something while we are there ? We don't go to the doctors in our house .. unless something is broken rolleyes.gif

Don't count on the availability of any vaccines for H5N1. Europe has the only production facilities, and they have presold their vaccines to the countries who placed their orders first. The Powers that Be in Washington saw no need to prebuy, and the human vaccine producers have virtually abandoned the USA becasue of our legal tort issues. It is not worth their time and money to produce vaccines and then get frivoulous lawsuits from people who have an adverse reaction. France produces most of the vaccine production now.

It takes years to ramp up for production of a new vaccine, and quite frankly the fertile eggs need for growing the vaccine don't exist. The breeding companies are setting birds as fast as they can, but it will still be several years before the vaccines are even possibly available.

Australia is the only country who has preordered sufficient supplies to innoculate about 80% of their population. The USA has enough ordered to innoculate about 2%.

Scary pancakes.
