This year,we've got two huge pumpkins and an itty bitty pumpkin that we're going to carve up.I usually use canned pumpkin to make pie with,but I thought since I'd have so much pumpkin on hand...I'd use that.So I go in search of a good recipe and find that only the small pumpkins are good for baking with??? Is this really true?? Hubby's going to be so disappointed if he doesn't get that fresh pumpkin pie he's been craving Anyone with pumpkin recipes,please share!If I can't make a pie with it all,what CAN I make??

I don't think the big pumpkins are as sweet....not sure. I just made a pie this week, from a pie pumpkin. Its like 1 1/3 cups of mashed pumpkin, 1 1/3 cups of sweet condensed milk, 1 tsp ginger, 1 tsp nutmeg, 1/2 teaspon crushed cloved, 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 egg and 1 cup hot water. Bake 350 for an hour.

BTW< I think the canned stuff is better, lol

LOL.Everyone loves the pies I make from canned pumpkin.Plus,it's just so easy! I just figured I'd be suzy-homemaker this halloween and use the real stuff,lol.Guess I'll buy some canned pumpkin without hubby knowing and just bake the pies while he's at work He'll never know

Carving pumpkins are not meant for pies - there is too much water in the pumpkin meat itself and it's a gooey mess. I didn't believe my mother when she told me this - I had to learn this lesson on my own. She didn't even laugh at me. Secretly, I think she did the same thing.

I'm sorry. Libby canned pumpkin is the best (as is their recipe).

I've done pies from cans and pies from pumpkins................. cans are at least just as good...... if not better/easier.
