Took a look on the Berry Eagle Camera this morning. Poor mama Eagle does NOT look happy.

I hope the eggs make it. This is some crazy weather to be incubating eggs. I think the early hatching estimate for the first one is the end of this week.

At least the forecast looks like the freezing rain will be south of Rome, so not much of a chance of the nest tree falling from ice. Hopefully the snow load won't damage it either. :(

Right now, you can really see the snow falling on the approach camera and some on the nest camera.

Aww, poor thing. They've got quite a bit more snow than we do here. I hope we get mostly snow and hardly ice.

They look bored, someone should put a TV up there or something for them.

I fantasize about my dogs having jobs. I pretend that both of them are window cleaners and their kennel is their first starter home. I think the bigger dog is trying to bump off the smaller dog so he can have the kennel to himself. I know I have a problem, but don't animals have to earn a living too?

Dogs may not be our whole lives, but they make our lives whole.

A dog is not "almost human" and I know of no greater insult to the canine race than to describe it as such.

The more I see of humans, the more I admire dogs.

He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.

The dog is a gentleman, I hope to go to his heaven, not man's.

Yep, dedicated Mom!!

I took a look at the approach cam, the tree appears to be holding up well, no noticeable bending of the branches, hopefully it makes it through fine.

If you notice there is ice/snow around the nest but it is clear and dry where the adults are sitting the eggs. When you doubt the maternal and survival instincts of wild animals just watch these two. I cannot say for sure who or what greater power created life but I am constantly awestruck by nature. It makes me feel as though my daily worries are a selfish vanity yet gives me great comfort somehow that everything will be alright.

good grief, when I first looked at mama eagle she was not moving. I thought her head was on the top left, covered in snow. I was ready to cry until she moved her head and her beak showed on the middle right. scared me but good  wish she had a blanket or a roof. poor thing.

Just took a look at Mama, really snowing on her now, you can see all of it coming down.

Papa is on the branch to the right of the screen, you can just see his tail sticking down, I guess he is passing the storm there.

The approach cam has gone dark, I guess snow covered the lens, so can't tell how much snow/ice load the tree seems to have.

Hope they are ok.

I read in the blog that because they are a protected animal, no one is allowed to get anywhere near the nest even to help. It's though that the pair had already lost one nest to a storm because their first year they started building very, very late in the spring.

Nature is pretty amazing when you get to view it like this.

I believe that is the male on the nest now. He came in about 30 minutes or so ago and took over while she flew away for awhile.

The Nest is looking ok this morning, but the approach cam is showing that either the tree it's on is leaning quite a bit or the Nest Tree (or both) are very loading and leaning.

From what I read, Eaglet #1 has roughly one more week to go. However, I wonder if the cold may have slowed the development and it may be a day or so longer than usual.

From the facebook page for the Eagles:

"We hope all of you are enjoying the incubation period for the Berry College Eagles. February 18 will be the 35th day of incubation for the first egg. Hatching could take place a few days earlier or a few days later. Our parents seem to be doing a good job on the nest, even bringing in additional nest material. Thanks to all of you for posting fabulous pictures and sharing our stream with your friends and family!"

Yes, I saw it mentioned it on the "Berry College Eagles" Facebook page. Interesting that a owl would want to mess with a 3 ft long Mama Eagle. Wish the camera was set up for sound, Mama was telling that owl off after the fly by!

Looking for the eggs to hatch this weekend. Hope the storm tonight does not hurt them. Was watching the web cam when the owl attacked. I yelled and my husband came running into the room. At the time we did not know what had attacked her. I was glad that someone had been able to record what had happened. Have gotten into the habit of watching the eagles the first thing in the morning and the last thing I do at night. So easy to get hooked on.

I am completely obsessed with the eagles. I also saw the owl attack when it happened and I was so freaked out. There is now (supposedly) a pip in the egg (for real this time) so the first hatching should be tomorrow or Sunday. I hope both of the babies make it!

I was watching this morning at 7:02 the camera changed from night vision to color it reminded me of the Wizard of Oz changing to color when Dorothy arrives in Oz. Sorry I got off subject from my original thought. Owls are probably the most effective winged predator we have in the wild at least when it comes to rodent hunting. They don't have the majesty of Eagles, Hawks or Falcons possibly because they are mostly nocturnal hunters and kinda freaky looking. They have incredible night vision, strong claws, razor sharp talons, compact heavy boned frames and best of all are stealth almost completely silent in flight. I have been in tree stands and watched Owls in nearby trees they are amazing. If you ever hear a close by "hoot" or "screech" when you are walking through the woods in the dark it will send a chill all the way up your spine. They probably actually eat more live prey than eagles. Eagles are predators but are also known to eat carrion if it is available and easily acquired. If owls were bigger (some are quite large like the Great Horned) they would be a worthy opponent for pretty much any other bird species. Having said that, these two Eagles rock. They are beautiful and majestic beyond words.

This is so exciting!!! I remember watching my little Dove eggs hatch and the mama and daddy feeding them and they grew more everyday. Watching their feathers come in, and then as they got ready, standing on the edge of the nest taking turns trying to fly..............and then one day they were gone. This is so cool!!

The daddy is there now!

He just flew away, he's sitting on a branch below her, you can see him. I didn't see him feed her anything, though

She just raised up again, it looks like one baby and one egg!
