Or even stayed at a Holiday Inne Express last night, I'm looking for opinions.

Background: weak left ankle. Has been for years and will occasionally bother me but nothing I haven't been able to live with.

Now: Yesterday morning, before I even got out of bed, my left ankle was throbbing and aching.
I was able to get up and walk but it hurt an awful lot. Took dogs to vet. That was a struggle as my 78lb rotten arse chocolate lab is awful on a leash. Ankle was REALLY hurting by the time we got back home.

By yesterday afternoon, after sitting at my desk all day, I could not even get up to walk with out literally crying in pain.
Last night was awful and I didn't sleep well from the aching, throbbing pain and today I can barely walk on it.
It hurts terribly!

I've googled and I've got everything from tendonitis to cancer.
So, y'all got any ideas?

I can tell from my kids going to physical therapy for ankle injuries, that you need to move it. The PTs would make a bucket of ice water and the kid would do figure 8's in the water. It always helped them, it sounds like you need to strengthen that ankle and maybe wrap it. Take ibuprofen for the pain and inflammation.

Is it swollen?

Warm to the touch?

Discolored or bruised?

Do you remember turning it or sitting on it in an awkward position?

Have you tried any kind of painkillers? If so, do they work?

Have you tried heat or ice on it?

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

In all seriousness, R.I.C.E, is basic CPR/first aid training.

Rest
Ice
Compression(wrap}
Elevation

Hope you feel better soon. Something small probably aggravated it without you being aware or noticing what you did and it's reacting. Will probably get better in a few days with R.I.C.E. but if it doesn't, you should follow up with your real doctor. Not us idiots and dr wannabes. :drinks:

Weird how without remembering what, if anything happened, our bodies have aches and hurts. Chalk it up to being over 25.

Riograce seems to have some good places to start. I agree on taking an anti-inflammatory like Aleve. (I like Aleve because it works for 8 or so hours)

I have had the same thing but with my right knee. It will be fine one minute and the next I'm in excruciating pain running a fever.

I think the idea of the ice and NSAIDs is the best route to go. It could be bursitis, too. My hip bursitis has flared up and started just out of the clear blue sky. Been doing the ice and NSAIDs since Monday.

But FYI, "ankle" could describe anything at the base of the leg and top of the foot. Is it in the joint? Is it in the fatty area to the outside of the ankle? Where exactly?

I know you said your ankle, but considering the work you did at Kroger for so many years this may be a cause, check out the link.

Yep. Got that in my left foot as well as osteoarthritis in both feet.
Thank you Kroger hard concrete floors.
I'm sure this is only making the ankle issue worse.

I have the same issue with my right ankle.
If I aggravate it, on it all day moving a lot, then I can wake up the next day with it hurting 10x worse than when I went to bed.
Once the tendons get tight then having it relaxed makes it more painful.
Only thing that works is Ibuprofen for the inflammation, and wrapping it up, and stretching it, use ice and a hot soak alternatingly.

Thanks. I've been doing all of the above.
Thing is, I work from home and sit at a desk behind a computer all day, so I have NO IDEA how I might have aggravated it.
I was fine Tuesday, and woke up Wednesday morning in pain before I ever set a foot out of bed.

Freeze a bottle of water. While you are sitting at your desk working, roll the frozen bottle back and forth under your bare foot.

I've traced pain like this to my back pain (by monitoring what I do and how my back is feeling day to day). A certain way my back is stressed just KILLS my lower left leg into the ankle down the outside and continues inside to the arch area. GAH!!! Youth is indeed wasted on the young. I fart in their general direction. :angry2:

Let me not to the marriage of true minds
Admit impediments. Love is not love
Which alters when it alteration finds,
Or bends with the remover to remove:
O no! it is an ever-fixed mark
That looks on tempests and is never shaken;

I am having a real hard time standing and walking on it.
