I think that Mr. Segars was brought in to get control of the discipline and try to re-store order. He apparently did that to some degree.
When it was time for a change, they brought in Mr. Fincher, a good, knowledgeble and reasonable person.

As far as the nicknames, students pick up a lot from their parents. If a student or parent shows disrespect to a good educator, they are showing their lack of manners, education and common sense. They probably get very little respect from their co-workers and friends and that is the way they handle it.

When Segars was principal and McAllister was Assistant Principal, PCHS failed year after year to meet AYP? Now that they're both gone, test scores are rising. Do you think there's a correlation there? When students are treated like convicts and teachers are treated like dirt, test scores fall. When Fincher was brought in, morale among teachers and students rose dramatically. A blind man can see that the problem at PCHS was Segars/McAllister.

Further to blame failure to meet AYP on the special needs students is a cop-out. Poor leadership was the problem, not special needs students.

I think they blamed Gottwald when he was there as well for having so many fights, etc. The school needed cleaning up. Maybe after that, there was also a better sense of why the students came to school.
I agree with you on Mr. Segars tactics being from the NAZI school of administration.

Oh yes I can.... PCHS is crap!
replace whom ever you want. the buddy system is still in place.
and nothing will ever change that but death.
PCHS will always look out for themselves and screw everyone else. Even the special needs kids. they are the targets cause in "Paulding County" special needs kids, are not worth the time. what i mean is that special needs (anyone) are not reliable tax payers...so why should anyone care about them?

really, it is worth it!
if you just walk away...your a puss!
have some balls and defend those who can not defend themselves.

I guess if i was walking by and saw someone beating the hell out of you...it is ok for me to just simple walk past and not do anything?
what the hell is wrong with you people?

are you all so busy with your own freak'n live that you dont care about those that cant defend themselves?
if so..... screw all ya!

it is a waist of my time even try'in to educate you on how the system dont care about less then average students.

Apparently that doesn't matter. If you had issues with the school, I guess in some people's world you take every opportunity to bash the school even after you, and your child have nothing to do with the school.

After listening to parents like this for 10 months, it's no wonder teachers need 2 months off in the summer.

lol tell me about it

I work at PCHS and I love it (most of the time)

Our test scores are on the way up and have been on the up-swing for several years after those hooligans from north finally left (just kidding). Our English and Social Studies EOCT and GHSGT scores were equal to and even greater then the rest of the schools in Paulding C. I know this is where A Eyes will chirp in and blame the old admin, but if you look at our numbers we have been trending upward since well before he left (yep I defended Segers, that felt odd)

Do we have problems? Sure, but so does every school in the district, and most worse then ours.

We have great kids and great teachers and I am proud to call myself a Patriot.

I haven't vented in a while as to how much I despise PCHS. School is out for 6 more weeks, so I'll just say this, ya'll can have a small vacation from my griping. I'll be back to venting about PCHS when school starts back THE FIRST WEEK OF AUGUST!

that's another thing that irkes me. Who's bright idea was it to rob our kids of a summer break and send them back the 1st week of August? That's pathetic leadership. My poor babies

You say you despise PCHS, even though the people that you supposedly blame are no longer there. What specifically are your gripes now?
If it is going back in August, well that is a county decision, not PCHS. All schools in the county return on August 1, not just PCHS.

As someone else asked, when do your babies graduate? And why have you not school choiced them if you think that PCHS is so terrible?

Normally I stay out of these little spats, but not when you talk against the Special Ed. people at PCHS. My grandson who is DOWNS SYNDROME attended PCHS. I never met a more caring and nurturing bunch of teachers and assistants. When he "graduated", he could somewhat read, write and a little addition, which if the truth be known, I personally thought would be beyond his capabilities.

You need to check your facts on the test results.
For the last four years, EPHS has dominated over PCHS which by the way ranked fourth in the county in the GSGT. The scores are onlne to verify.
Also, except for one year, EPHS had the highest SAT scores as well.
I couldn't find the source of the EOCT.
NPHS, due to their addition of grades each year, did not have the scores available.

Both of my children graduated recently from PCHS. It was a good experience for them. If there were problems, I asked my children to solve them so they would be prepared to handle things as an adult. Their teachers were, for the most part, good teachers. Because they were human, I didn't expect perfection, nor did I expect them to compensate for things my children did or failed to do. If I had been as dissatisfied with a school as some appear to be in this vent, I would have moved or homeschooled my kids. Life's too short to hang on to that kind of anger. Just my humble opinion....

As I was told. Now this is from someone who apparently knows her.
"She can't go into it on the open board because she works at PCHS." Like I stated this is what was sent to me in a PM from someone who said they know her.

Happy Birthday to all 1973 babies. Tell your mom how much you love her!!!

That would explain things a bit. Of course if that is true she (you if your reading this) could look into transferring to another school or county.

PC beats out EP in a few areas and EP beats out PC in a few areas. I don't really see any of the "domination" that your refer to. EPHS is a good school, they have good teachers and good students. but guess what.....so do we. check the facts yourself. Personally I can't wait for the 2012 numbers to be published.

Those last scores are supposed to be GHSGT? They are definitely not the numbers I found under that heading on their web-site. I didn't have the EOCT scores as I mentioned originally.

They are percentages. The percentage failed, passed, exceeded.

So you created a post just to let us know that you'd be creating a post to gripe? Anger issues much? You had to tell us we'd get a vacation from your griping by making a post to let us know you won't be griping? Next time just keep it to yourself.

Solution - year 'round school. Ten weeks on, three weeks off. Reduce the forgetting of material taught early in one year by trying to introduce it/capitalize on it again early in the next year. Knowledge is only 13 weeks away from having been learned. Deficit after ten weeks - remediate in the following three weeks, etc., throughout the whole year. Save LOTS of money by travelling in perpetual off-season vacations. In traditional school year, even with fall breaks, spring breaks, holiday breaks, etc., everyone is dragging by the time May rolls around.
