I've seen a few variegated gingers for sale online and was wondering if anyone has seen them locally? Here's one. I'll post a couple of others when I have time to look them up:
Alpinia pumila makes a diminutive, slowly stoloniferous groundcover with 6" long x 3" wide leaves of green, highlighted by broad silver streaks. The cardamon-fragranced leaves are held at a low, nearly horizontal angle to the ground

Here's is another type:
Hedychium 'Vanilla Ice' has much more white flecking than its parent, which reduces it in both size and vigor...a good thing for smaller gardens. The rare, reverted, larger-growing, less-variegated shoots should be promptly removed. In our trials, it rarely exceeds 3' in height and is topped in late summer with deliciously fragrant peachy-pink flowers...a real charmer!

I purchased. 2 types of variegated hedychiums a couple of years ago. One has pink blooms the other white. They are definately not as vigorous as my other ginger's and in my opinion not worth the extra money. The variegated foliage I have found makes a weeker plant, and they will sometimes revert back to the all green

I was hoping they would be better growers.
Here's a photo of variegated shell ginger. I grew it before I moved to Paulding County. There's a dwarf form of it that I would like to get:

This one has strong white variegation and is described as a strong grower:
Zingiber mioga 'Dancing Crane' (Dancing Crane Ginger)
Zone 6-9, possibly colder
Height 36"
Culture Part Sun to Light Shade
Origin Japan
(syn: Zingiber mioga 'Nakafu') This selection of the edible (flowers and new shoots) Japanese woodland ginger comes from the collection of famed Japanese nursery Gotemba. The 3' stalks of 1' long x 2.5" wide green leaves are each highlighted with a stunning central "white lightning" pattern. Each easy-to-grow clump multiplies rapidly, soon making a 5' wide patch in five years. In late summer through fall, the small, light yellow, orchid-like flowers peek out from the base of the plant at ground level.

I juice ginger root everyday but never thought about growing it. Thanks for your posts, BL, I always learn something new from them. Hope you are doing well!
