You figure the sports 'superstar' would be more successful. First win since 2008 and only 4 in the last 8 seasons.

Junior is a good driver and not the only driver to go with a long winless streak. Not to mention no other driver on the circuit has the pressure that is put on him. I would not call Junior a "superstar". Most popular driver in the sport with the largest fan base? Yes but superstar? No. It takes more than a good driver to get to Victory Lane. Junior isn't SECOND in the points by accident - or just because his last name is Earnhardt. Eleven TOP 10 finishes this season!! Many of Junior's losses have not been of his doing. Just sayin'.

After four years and 143 races what can one expect for the sport's most over-rated driver. How many years has he had top equipment with HMS and still used excuses? I guess that is all in the past.

I despise this guy.. if he didnt have his last name, he would have never made it to the big league. I swear his fans make up more excuses than Obama's sheep. I have been waiting on Jr's fans to just "blame bush" LOL> Seriously, he has had the top equipment for YEARS now and he just now won.. lol.

I agree with Smoke....it ain't a national holiday.

Really not that shocking he won. He is a good driver on fast tracks and with the new surface none are faster then MIS. Now, the real test is can he win another THIS YEAR...other then the Aug race at MIS.

Okay, lets say a person has a job. This person only does his job correctly ONE DAY OUT OF FOUR YEARS. This person would be call a slacker and fired from this job. But a racecar driver can win only one race in four years and he is a hero. He was hired to win races, period. No matter who is father was. No matter that his father died a tragic death. It all boils down to the fact that is JOB is to win races. He did his job right one day out of four years. Sorry if it don't bow down and kiss his feet.

Dale Jr has made over $300 Million in his career....most of it was made off hats, t-shirts, bumper stickers, etc. Not too bad in my view. Sure he hasn't won as many as Jimmie Johnson or even Jeff Gordon, but the bottom line is EARNHARDT brings in the money and NASCAR is a much better sport because of Dale Jr.

I wish had $300 Million. just sayin'

yes - it is all about marketing. The Buttwieser types are the smartest at picking their "horse" in the race.

Being in the sports apparel business I can say Dale, Jr is ALWAYS good for business~win or lose. And, there is always talk among vendors/retailers/etc that IF Junior were to win a Championship they won't be able to make the merchandise fast enough. (BTW, I can count on one hand the number of Championship items I sold the year Matt Kenseth won and also last year when Smoke won.) Junior's fans are LOYAL fans and don't jump on (or off) the bandwagon. Junior's interview thanking his fans for standing behind him all the years of drought was nice.

Being a race car driver cannot be compared to a "regular" person having a job and only showing up one day in four years. Junior has shown up to work every day - and more than just on Sundays. There is so much more to NASCAR than driving in circles. And, yes he has had good equipment for several years (but just like with every driver on the track not every race do they have good or the right equipment) but so many elements have to be right to get to Victory Lane......no one else blows a tire in front of you, the driver/crew chief are on the same page/communicate, the right tires for a particular track, gas mileage, etc, etc, the list goes on and one. Each week all of these factors come together for "someone" to reach the checker flag first. No other driver has the stress, pressure or eyes on him as Junior does and no, it's not a National Holiday. There was a lot made of Junior's win just as there was a lot made of each race in 143 that he didn't win. Junior has consistency this year that has put him 2nd in points. Consistency is the key. Last year Tony didn't win a race during the regular season and said many times he didn't deserve to be in the Chase. Then he went on to win five of ten Chase races and IS the reigning Champion! Junior is good for the sport - personally I don't think it is good for any driver to dominate the sport. We didn't like it when his Daddy won the majority of the races just like we don't like Jimmie winning so many Championships. But, I often say "it would be an awfully boring world if we all cheered for the same football team, golfer, NASCAR driver, etc, etc.

And, YES, I'd be happy with just a small fraction of that $300 million Juniot made last year. Just sayin'. :)
