My son is assigned to read "A People's History of the United States" by Howard Zinn and "Salem's Lot" by Stephen King(this one is his choice from a list).

I was wondering if someone might have a copy of either book that they would like to donate to him or sale for a reasonable price. Perhaps your student has read "A People's History" previously and has no need for it anymore. I would really appreciate any help.

I have ordered the books from the library but he will be traveling to Montana for a month this summer with a friend and I would prefer to send personally owned books with him rather than library books.

Thanks!

If you don't get a quick response from someone that has it, first check with The Bookworm, then if they don't have it, check the local chain stores. Often they have inexpensive versions of books on the assigned reading list.
Who is John Gault? - He's the successful business owner who didn't want to play by the new 'Law of the Land' so he closed up shop, packed up his stuff and left. He was joined by many other successful business owners who did the same. They stayed away until the government begged them to return and repealed the law.

I may have Salem's lot. I'll have to look.
Give me a few.

And I'd like to add......what a kick arse teacher that would let him choose a Stephen King book!!
WOOT!!

Although, I would have recommend The Stand or The Gunslinger.

The Bookworm didn't have either one. Last year he was required to read 3 books and I ordered them all from Amazon.com for very reasonable prices. This year my money is a little tighter.

Thank you for checking. They have quite an extensive list to choose from for this class. The only other Stephen King novel that is an option is "The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon." My son wants to read something scarey.

I'm pretty sure we do have 'The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon'. I think I shelved it the other day ;). (the Bookworm, btw). I haven't been in since Tuesday so it may have sold by now. I understand him wanting to read 'scary' however, since that would be my first pick and Salem's Lot would definitely fit the bill.
Unfortunately the books on the required list for summer reading , tend to go really quickly... Although we do have a TON of classic literature, which sadly does not seem to be required as often as I would like.

Mark, thank you for the recommendation.

If you can wait a few days, try half.com. We order from them all the time and I have never paid more than $1.08 for a good condition, used book, plus media mail shipping. I'll go check and try to post the link.

There are quite a few of the "classics" included on the reading list too, that's just not what he chose. The list includes about 30 titles. Something for everyone.

:)
I understand, trust me.
Any chance that 'The Picture of Dorian Gray', (Oscar Wilde) is on his list? That one we have for sure, very scary (imho) and classic.

My first choice is always dark fiction (horror) and we have lots of 'classics; that fit very well into that genre :) .

I hope you guys won't have much problem finding what you need regardless whether we can help or not!!!
Let us know if we can try to lay our hands on anything else for you :) .

Meh.........not one of his best works.

I do have Salem's lot if you want to borrow it.
PM me if interested.
For the record...I'm pretty sure I have all King's books.

I'm located 2 miles from 61/278 K-roger.

Personally I think George Orwell's 1984 should be required reading for EVERY teenager.
It's my all time FAVORITE book.

I just asked my son if he had this book and he said no. But, if there are other books your son needs in the future, please post again. My son still has a lot of his books.

Thanks so much! If you don't mind me asking, is your copy a hardback or paperback?

:)
My all time favorite book is Bradbury's 'Fahrenheit 451'. I do love that it is on some of the reading lists :). That's another one we rarely have on our shelves as is '1984' and 'Animal Farm' . All favorites of ours so we have a hard time keeping them on hand because we constantly pimp them out ;).
