Two five year old girls were discovered dead from drowning in a family pool sometime after 1:30 p.m. today according to Dallas Police Detective Bill Gorman. The tragedy happened as most of the family were off to town on a shopping trip and the two were left with the grandmother of one who is a caregiver. The two girls were found fully clothed by the ten year-old brother who was part of the family search that commenced when the parents and another brother returned from shopping. The call to 911 came at 1:43, said Dallas Police Detective Bill Gorman, who is investigating the case. Gorman declined to release the names of the children until tomorrow but said one of the victims was a resident of the home and the other was visiting the family from her home in Gwinnett County. Gorman said that charges are pending against the grandmother whom he said was talking on the phone for approximately 45 minutes while the two children apparently left an upstairs bedroom where they were playing and ambled outside to the yard where the family had its own pool in the swim-tennis community west of Dallas. The parents told Gorman that their daughter was a swimmer and could swim the length of the pool. The skill level of the other child was unknown. Additional information will be available in the morning. | |

Not sure if we have the story right that it was the grandmother or that the radio station does.

I have french doors too and I chose the keyed locks on both sides, I keep a key in that door at all times and I keep the lock turned just a bit so the door is locked and the GK cannot just pull the key out. Also Lowes sells a alarm that I have installed on my doors, it has a "ding' sound and a all out "alarm sound" you get 2 for 6.00 dollars. these are the best even for napping GK, When they go down for a nap I set it for "ding sound" and that lets me know they are awake. I did all of this child proofing 2 years ago. I have a pond and I just felt I needed to.
