I think that there has to be someone on here that knows what can and can't be done in this situation.
We have 2 large dogs next to us that if left out at night bark almost non stop all night. This weekend they apparently went out of town and just left the dogs in the back yard. We live in one of the neighborhoods where the lots are 1/2 acre so we hear everything.
The dogs bark all night when left out and the bad thing is one of my kids had the SAT saturday morning and got no sleep.
What can be done after animal control is closed? Can you call the sheriffs dept. about this matter? I looked online and did see where they had the sheriff dept number listed beside barking dogs.
I do understand that dogs bark, I have a dog myself. I make a point to bring my dog in at night and I don't let her out the next morning until at least 7:30. I don't want her to keep people awake at night you would think others would do the same for their neighbors.

Go to www.paulding.gov and go to the Marshal's office link.
From there, you can download a "noise complaint packet" to submit.

Basically, you audio or video tape the incident going on (they like approx. 15 minutes).
Send it in... if it is in violation of the code, they will issue a ticket.

Also, see if there is water & shelter - if not, animal control can get involved from my understanding. Of course, give them water if they don't have any, please.

I thought about checking on the food and water but I don't want them to come home and me be in their back yard...

This is what I was told by the sheriff's office when I called with a similar complaint. This is a load of nonsense--it places a burden on the complainant, who must jump through hoops to get get some sleep.

I audio taped a nonstop dog and submitted it and that seemed to do the trick. This was a little bitty yappy dog that was left out all day long in the heat with no shelter and would yap till it couldnt speak anymore. They were issued a warning from what i understood which they ignored and then received a citation because animal control kept an eye and ear out to make sure they complied..which they didnt unfortunately for the dog. After that I never heard it again, and yes, it does still live there but they keep better care of it and only let it out in the yard for short periods.

I don't let my 4 dogs do a lot of barking during the day, either. They are the small yappy types and can be very annoying at times. If the neighbors are in their own yards, my dogs go crazy. Therefore i lure them into the house with a treat. My neighbors should be able to enjoy their yard without my dogs barking.

Don't get me wrong, I love my babies and they are spoiled but I try very hard to keep them in line. I understand that sometimes the barking is just them doing their job of protecting so I assure them that we are "ok".

We spent eighty bucks on the Dog Silencer Pro™ and it works! Our neighbors three dogs are constantly barking; all day and night! We have our system on the screened in porch on auto mode facing the neighbor's yard; we now have silence at night!

My neighbors on the other side of them tell me they have out 2 sonic things that is supposed to keep them from barking, but that they are not working. wonder if they are different than or just a brand that is not as good as the Dog Silencer Pro or if it just doesn't phase these dogs.

I promise you, this thing works! When I initially turn on the system, his dogs run as far as they can away from our yard.

It does sound like nonsense until you realize it simply places the burden of proof on the person making the accusation and makes enforcement of the law much easier. If you were to call and complain about your neighbors dog, how much time and effort would you expect law enforcement to expend following up based on your word alone?
Who is John Gault? - He's the successful business owner who didn't want to play by the new 'Law of the Land' so he closed up shop, packed up his stuff and left. He was joined by many other successful business owners who did the same. They stayed away until the government begged them to return and repealed the law.

I agree, when we first moved to our current residence, we had a crazy neighbor who would call animal control at the slightest peep my dogs would make. She was a mean old woman who apparently hated dogs. The animal control officer who showed up at our house the FIRST time informed us that the woman was notorious for constant calls to animal control, but they were required to follow up. Our dogs weren't in the wrong in that case, our crazy neighbor was.

Thank god she moved.

What is nonsense?

You are making an accusation and you have to provide proof that the accusation is accurate.

Do you want the police/marshal's/animal control to come out to your place and sit and wait until the dog barks?
Wonder how many people would complain about the law enforcement officer sitting and doing nothing productive, if that were to happen.

This is no different than anything else. You have to back up your accusation for legal action to be taken.

That's not very funny or a humane way to handle this situation. :angry2:

That is a horrible way for ANY animal to die.

You should just let the dogs out while you neighbors are gone. Then you can start a thread on Pcom trying to find a good home for the poor lost dogs that showed up at your door. Problem solved. :drinks:

I agree
If my neighbors had dogs that barked all the time, the dogs would be dead.
I have beagles and they are notorious for barking, but mine only bark when something is in the yard.If they bark I get up and check.

It's all about respect,if you don't respect me enough to keep your dogs quiet,I'll kill them.......deal with it.Give me all the negatives you can,but i'll still sleep well.

The strange thing is they called me all mad because I have complained about the dogs, not to the animal shelter or any authorities that could take the dogs, but that I complained to them. Its funny how people try to make you out to be the bad guy when you are not the one being a bad neighbor...

You'll sleep well in jail, because you'll be arrested for cruelty to animals.

I will tell you one thing also... My dog doesn't bark, but I can promise you, even if it did,
and you came on my property and killed it... YOU would be leaving in a body bag as well.

There are proper and LEGAL ways to deal with barking dogs. Barking is not putting your life or property in danger.
Killing a dog because it's barking, on it's own property, is nothing but cowardly.

What Nitro said x 10!

Why would you kill an animal because the owner doesn't respect you?? What in the hell kinda sense does that make?

I bet you would feel quite differently if someone poisoned your dog. How would you sleep then?

Ignorance and cruelty personified, yep that pretty much describes your viewpoint on this subject.

My Dog only goes outside to use the bathroom.

But if anyone ever killed or poisoned my dog, it would be Hatfield and McCoy part 2.

I don't know why people handle themselves like they do sometimes. There is a rental house close to my barn, that have a Pitt, one Sunday morning my GSD was going nuts so I look out the window and there is their Pitt on my porch. I got a leash and walked the dog down the driveway and put him back behind their fence. Spoke to them and asked them if they expected me to get in between a GSD and a Pitt that were fighting? I told them to their face that the possibility of these dogs getting into it COULD NOT HAPPEN and if it did I would get the county as well as the law involved. The woman threw an attitude at me like I was the one in the wrong.

Their Pitt is a sweet unnutered male. My GSD is a not so sweet unnutered male. I would not want to be witness to these two fighting.

I've not had any more problems with them since then.

Point being, if you are the kind of person who would give animals access to antifreeze then you cannot have any sense of doing the right thing and as such, we should all be protected by the likes of you cause, yeah you're a real tough guy.

About the same as any other complaint one might make, e.g., loud music, pounding, cars blocking neighbors' driveways, etc. Should these have to be proven, too?

I went through this not long ago.
Just get you a video camera, make a note of the time (I pointed mine at the computer clock) and go outside and set it down, facing the neighbors yard area and let it record the dogs barking for 15 minutes.

Then you download the form, fill it out and put the video on a disk and bring it to Animal Control.

They will take care of it. I haven't had any problems since and I went out of my way and talked to the neighbors (even printed out a copy of the code thing) before I went to AC.
If you didn't see it with your own eyes or hear it with you own ears, don't invent it with your small mind and share it with your big mouth!

I agree...worked for me and no one treated me differently or as if they were angry. I also have a "bark Eliminator" that goes nuts if a dog barks...high pitched horrible noise, but after about a week they stop barking at EVERYTHING and only bark when there is a stranger around or some other animal. Yes, the Bark Breaker is annoying for a bit but well worth the cost. I think mine was around 70.00 and looks just like the rest of my thirty birdhouses hanging in my trees. Thankfully my Saint Bernard doesnt waste his energy on barking...you are lucky to get a simple "woof" when someone comes in the house much less at other dogs or just for the heck of it.
