As long as they are not chipped and rusted really bad I used Rustoleums bathtub re finishing kit. Our shower and tub were the fake marble crap. It was really easy although the fumes will just about knock you out. I did our tub and shower 3 years ago and they still look the way they did when I first diid them. I bought the kits on Amazon. They have lots of different colors. On can was enough to do the shower. I used 2 on the tub as it is a large corner tub.

The kits were only about $30 each.

As with anything to do with painting, surface prep is key. I used a sander and sanded them down good to smooth out the surface and to give the paint something to "bite" to. That probably took an hour. Once everything is cleaned up after sanding you use the cheap foam brushes to apply the paint. I put down 2 coats. All in all it probably took 2 days because you have to let the paint dry good between coats. I started in the morning with one coat, applied another in the evening, then allowed the next day for drying and curing before we used it.
