My aunt and uncle think that my mother needs one of those Life Alert type necklaces. I have been looking online, but am not sure which one is considered the best. Does anyone have any experience with these types of devices and what do you think of them?

I think they all basically work the same, or at least on the same principle. My mom had Life Alert. She used it a couple of times, too. She accidentally pressed the help button once and they answered immediately and asked her if she needed help. She said she didn't, just pressed the button by mistake. When she did use it, twice I think they responded immediately and summoned help. My sister was her emergency contact and they called her less than a minute after my mom activated the alert.

In a one story house, I think it works great. In a two story house, it may require two base units. They may have improved reception distance since my mom had hers, though.

BTW, if the people looking for something like this are on Greystone, I think they offer one as well.

My grandfather has one called Lifeline. It has been a god send for him. He has had it around two years and has had to use it twice. First time he fell inside and they called over the intercom and sent him help. The second time was winter before last he was going to mailbox and slipped and fell outside in the snow and could not get up. He pressed his button for help and he did not relize that they could not hear him talking, but when they called him over intercom and no response they sent help that was there promply to help him. It covers him inside and outside around the house. We feel a lot safer with him having it.

Be careful. Like everything, there are many scammers out there.

There are two types of equipment. One will have a monitoring speaker inside the home and a specified range. The other works like a direct 911 cell phone and will work if your loved one is in need away from the home. For example, if she finds herself walking in the neighborhood and all of the sudden is lost it short of breath. Analyze your lived one's movements to determine which is the best for her

The 911 type come in the form of a cell phone or a simple single button. Shop around. You can get them from cell phone companies, Radio Shack, credit unions, utility companies, etc.

Good luck.

My Mother has one; it works fine as long as you are in the house. If you are going outside look for something other than life alert. Mother stays inside, 99 of time; so hers is good for her; they have called me one time, she accidently set it off and did not answer the call box.

My mother has one . She always wears it around her neck .
She has a monitor in her house .
She has used it once when she was in her chair & could not get up .
The meds & firemen were there asap . Her blood pressure had skyrocketed & her ankels were swollen , it saved her from having a stroke .

A couple of times she has hit it by mistake .
The speaker on the monitor comes on and a very nice ladt asks her if she is OK .
It's great
