Paulding.com has heard from key sources the first movie rumored to be produced at the county's Atlanta Studios' Paulding is 42 - The Jackie Robinson Story starring Harrison Ford as Branch Rickey, the big league owner who had the guts to break the color barrier in baseball in 1947.

Chadwick Boseman plays the part of Jackie Robinson, the all around all-star and nice guy black ball player who endured the wrath of folks with the mindset of folks like Georgia's Ty Cobb, one of the nastiest ball players ever to play the game.

In addition to Ford and Boseman, some of the notable cast members include
Christopher Meloni, best known as Det. Elliot Stabler on Law and Order SVU as Leo Durocher
Jon Bernthal, who was Shane Walsh in the Walking Dead playing Ralph Branca, and John C. McGinley, know for his role as Dr. Perry Cox in Scrubs as Red Barber.

Additional information on the production is available at this IMDB.com link

Harrison Ford, who is getting top billing in the list of credits, is known for the Indiana Jones movie franchise as well as for being "Hans Solo" in Star Wars as dozens of other memorable characters.

Brian Helgeland wrote the screen play and directs. Helgeland has such movies as LA Confidential and - this for our own 'The Postman' was writer of that movie.

Pete Rose's character flaw was that he liked to gamble, not that he was a hate-filled spiteful individual. I've never heard of a contemporary of Ty Cobb's who had anything nice to say about him.

Even more than that, Jackie Robinson was a not only a great ball player known for his hustle, but a man of good, even exceptional character who put up with many whose hateful attitudes were reflective of Cobb's.

I'm actually proud that this is the first project at the new studio.

Just off Bill Carruth Parkway about a half-mile ... maybe a bit further ... from the new hospital location.

How would you know if it did or didn't? I know I am not familiar with all the industries that are used to make movies. We have had a handful of movies made here and I am sure a lot of stuff has been brought in. With one production after another being made at the studio I am sure that it will be profitable to locate some of the support businesses close to the studio.
I see hotels, the airport, equipment rental places seeing some immediate business.
Our young people might get part time jobs in the summer as xtras. Any infusion of cash in the area is definitely a plus for our economy here.

I think people are waiting for the headline that reads xxxxx company moves to Paulding and provides xxxx jobs. It may or may not happen that way.

Every business that locates here adds to the health of our local economy especially for businesses already here, they hire more.
There will never be another tidal wave like the building boom to sweep in and put the economy in over drive.

This will go a long way towards the 60% + occupancy rate needed to keep the taxpayers from having to make the bond payments on this albatross.

Huge Tigers fan and love the stories of Cobb but EVERYONE agrees the guy was a complete SOB. Don't you recall the line from the movie Field of Dreams where Shoeless Joe says "Cobb wanted in but none of us could stand the SOB when he was alive so we told him to stick it"

A lot of myths and lies are believed about Ty Cobb, written by people trying to sell books and movie tickets.
