I know this is a long shot but was wondering if anyone knew of any places that help with this type of stuff? My dad has Alzheimers and it is the kind where the body is getting stiff and it is harder and harder for him to move. He is a big man and my mom is small. They are of course like most Seniors on a very limited income. Anyway we are starting to have problems giving him baths. He is still far from nursing home status or even daily home health. But he does need regular showers. My moms health isnt really all that good either. She is a two time survivor of two differents types of Cancer. the only thing we need help with is getting them a bathroom remodel with a tub that he can just walk into like the ones they show on TV. We have talked with several places but they dont offer that. So any leads will be greatly appreciated. These are great people who have raised 7 children and have always done their absolute best to make sure all the kids less fortunate than us had presents for Birthdays, Holidays and such. They took cousins and neighborhood kids on vacations and any other type of function needed. OK enough of this before I start crying again. Thanks again.

Could you possibly, in the meantime, get one of the "chairs" that swing/slide over the tub?

We are checking into that. But they seem to still be out of our families price range.

Well, how about one of the plastic chairs and a transfer board? I think I have a transfer board you can have...

Google "Transfer Board"....it is a board (ours is a smooth wood) that would sit between 2 chairs...a person would then "slide" from one chair to the other on the board...we used it when my FIL was able to "help" move himself...he would slide from the wheel chair to recliner on the board. Saves alot of "back breaking".

They make a product called a Walk-in tub. That would be ideal for your father. However, they are quite costly. The unit itself starts around $2,000 then will need to be installed. You can Google the term "walk in bathtub" and learn more about it. The units have doors that allow you walk in and sit down. Then you can fill the bath up with water like normal. A possibility would be to convert the tub to a walk in shower. My guess is that total cost for each option would be roughly the same.

For the options that I have discussed, you could be looking at a total investment of about 5 or $6000. Don't quote me there...just trying to be realistic. I can answer any additional questions you might have about these set-ups if you'd like. Ask your questions here or PM me and I will give you my number.

Once again, thanks about the lead about the tubs,. We have looked into something like that, hence the topic post. Help with the remodling. We dont have the finances for anything. Especially something that costly. But thanks again.
