I busted butt all last week to save enough money to stay with my GF at her place on Lake Sinclair. Left on Friday at 1:00, got there at 3:30, and WOW!!!! It was just what I needed!! She's got a nice little boat dock on her lot that's right close to the lake. I fished, and fished, and fished!!! Then, I built her a nifty little BBQ pit, and we burnt some steak the first night, pork tenderloin the second night, and fresh Talapia the final night. She's got this really cool paddle boat that we strolled the lake at night in, with that beautiful full moon as the perfect backdrop!!
I was in Heaven!!! It was SO hard to leave and get back here to conduct my business.....but I am working on a way to get out there at least every two weeks. With all those boats and ATV's and golf carts everywhere, I think I could make a good living over there.....just thinking out loud. But, it was the best time I have had in I don't know how long.
Then add the fact that I'm dating a woman who treats me better than I've ever been treated in my life (even if I don't deserve it) then it's the closest thing to Paradise you could possibly imagine. I just wanted to share with yall, because many of yall know I work too dang hard and getting away from it all has left me refreshed and ready to work my tail off again to keep yall's mowers running like a top!

You are certainly not just a musician, my friend. Your GF knows what she's got.!
"The rich alone use imported articles, and on these alone the whole taxes of the General Government are levied. ... Our revenues liberated by the discharge of the public debt, and its surplus applied to canals, roads, schools, etc., the farmer will see his government supported, his children educated, and the face of his country made a paradise by the contributions of the rich alone, without his being called on to spend a cent from his earnings." ~ The Chief Author of our Declaration of Independence
I am so glad for you Subby! I love Lake Sinclair. I haven't been there in years. I knew someone who knew someone, etc.
It was the same thing - great boat dock; cabin on the lake. Now I am envious.
And they never drain it!! It rises about a foot over night, then they lower it back down during the day. Some of the prettiest channel cats I ever saw, and crappy too. It was a blast. Y'all don't be surprised if I decide to move there within the next year! I noticed all the pretty yards, lawn mowers and ATV's everywhere, and only ONE shop in town... Also found an engineering firm that's hiring over there. Just something I'm tossing around in my head for now.
I'm SOOOOO glad you got a break and had such a good time.
Tell me, how was the paddle boat? I found one at Academy Sports the I'm dying to get! Was it easy to get around in? And paddle?
My husband us laughing at me but I don't care!
The paddle boat was AWESOME!!! It seats 4, so we had to back seats for the coolers. It's very easy to get around in...it won't win any races, but still very cool. I kept going all "nerd" on her talking about how I could use bearings instead of bushings and set up a higher speed ratio, etc. She said, "you aint touchin' my paddle boat, boy!"..."I like it just fine"!
It looks like this one and I think we would have a lot of fun with it..........
of course my husband is looking at a new fishing boat.
Whatever.
That's the one, only without the top cover (can't get no sun with that thing on there! )
Sure is a lot of fun though, and whether she knows it or not, I'm already drawing up the plans to make it a 2 speed. It could use a higher gear ratio for speedy action! I'm bringing a bunch of tools out to Sinclair in a week or two and get that puppy going great. Also have a design for outfitting a 2-stroke weed eater outfitted with an impeller in place of the traditional string head attachment. If she says "go for it", then we'll be in business!! I've got a muffler design that will make it virtually noise free (sort of how a silencer on a gun works). I know yall think I'm crazy (and I'm sure you're right) but it would be really cool to have a small engine that makes almost no noise and will get er done! I know a trolling motor comes to mind, but those cost money, which I don't have. This can be built with parts I already have and no batteries to worry with. If the engine fails, then it's STILL a paddle boat. It's a win-win sitchiation!!
(Keeping the horsepower under 9.9 gives you a lot of leeway on what's required on motor boats)

You might want to do a double check with the DNR...about three years ago a friend of mine did something similar and received a ticket on Carter's Lake because the watercraft was unregistered. He told the ranger it was exempt and the ranger told him that any modification made to allow it to become "mechanically propelled" made it unexempt.

Done looked into that. The mod just needs to be approved first, but they seemed to have no problem with my design. Plus, Lake Sinclair is owned by GA Power, so there's two entities to deal with over there. GA power didn't seem to give a rat's butt as long as the engine was under 9.9 HP. The DNR said they "may" require registration, but after seeing the design, they saw it was a very small addition with multiple safeties to contain any spills or break any noise ordinances. It's got a modified shaft that is sealed so that no oil or grease can escape into the water....their main concern. In fact, the guy I showed it to thought it was a great idea.
Just teasing you. Our lake is small so a paddle boat works for me but you could have a great time on Lake Sinclair with a small motor!
Oh, you know me. I was supposed to be on vacation, but I fixed her mower, mowed half the yard, then ran an electrical service out to her boat house...and built her a BBQ pit. I like doing things like that. I locked the fishing poles in place so the catfish couldn't get away, and just reeled them in during breaks.
You're a good man, Subby and you DO deserve good things. I'm so happy to hear that a woman sees that too and treats you like you deserve to be treated. I have no doubt that you do the same in return- I know you.
