Seems Americans will turn every opportunity for drinking to just such an opportunity.

You don't get out much do you?

Ever been to UK?
How about Scotland?
Ireland?
France?
How about Italy?
Greece?
And Russia?
Copenhagen?
How about Austria?
Maybe Australia?
Spain?

What do they have in common?

They all like to drink and is deeply ingrained into their culture.

So whatever you NPR point is, all I have to say is.....

Get out more and step away from your liberal umbilical cord.
And to think you got a grip, look at yourself your lips are like two flaps of fat,
they go front and back and flappityflappity flap

Your ever America hating ideology is that we drink to much, doesn't walk enough, not enough free stuff provided by the gov etc.

How do you survive in such a hostile disgusting environment?

I'm sorry but there seems to be a failure to communicate here. Where does the article talk about hating America or corporate welfare?

Personally I think there is something to be said for the view of drinking alcohol in America vs Europe and other countries. It's viewed as such a viral and sinful act throughout childhood here the states, that once adulthood arrives the aura of alcohol is much brighter than what it should be. Even as a 40 something year old adult I am questioned for ID, as was my 87 year old father in law for ID as if we're buying something rare and immoral. It's no wonder when kids, and adults for that matter get their hands on it that they lose control with something that has been off limits or viewed as so sinful. People look at you like you're a damn alcoholic if you have a glass of wine a day or a cold one here in this country. So yeah, they go out of control when they have an "excuse" to drink. Europe and other countries tend to look at it at totally different and include it with meals, socializing etc. Yeah they celebrate too, but they are way less uptight about "the debil's juices" than we are here in this country. I really think it leads to less excuses to drink.

"The rich alone use imported articles, and on these alone the whole taxes of the General Government are levied. ... Our revenues liberated by the discharge of the public debt, and its surplus applied to canals, roads, schools, etc., the farmer will see his government supported, his children educated, and the face of his country made a paradise by the contributions of the rich alone, without his being called on to spend a cent from his earnings." ~ The Chief Author of our Declaration of Independence
