For some reason I felt compelled to type this thread....perhaps it will help someone. Lately I have been working harder than I ever have in my whole life, longer hours, and less pay. This is not a complaint anymore. I've had enough years of career loss to come to terms with the fact that my high dollar job will never come back again, at least in my lifetime.

In stark contrast, however, I have MORE satisfaction in my life than I can possibly remember; simply from doing something I love to do and something that helps people out. Most people here know my story. Some call it a story of endurance and determination. Personally, I call it a journey that I never thought I would go through at this age in my life.

How about you folks? Got any good stories about how you've tried to overcome your economic woes, and in the process, started something new, and found it (or are finding it) to be one of the most fulfilling things you've ever done?

There's more than enough negative in this world we live in. How about some GOOD things that are happening in our lives? Perhaps thinking on those things could help us lift ourselves higher, and put us in a better position in life. What say, you? :pardon:

years ago my husband was in the IT field making great money but he got laid off. After close to a year he still hadnt found work, we lost everything materialistic (cars, house, etc) and basically started over. Absolutely it was hard but in the end he is in a career now that he loves and we are so much stronger for everything we went through. The saying what doesnt kill you makes you stronger is definitely true. I dont regret going through what we did because in the end it really helps you realize whats important and whats not. Also taught us how to live a simpler life.

You always have to look at the positive. So many focus on what they dont have or what they wish they had and life just passes them by and they never have the time to enjoy whats right in front of them.

Im happy for you Subby

My brother-in-law has had an extremely high paying job and has been hugely successful his entire career in telecommunication sales. A deal that he has worked on for an entire year failed to see the light of day by the year close out on Dec. 31, 2011. The company wanted that sale on its books and he is now in danger of being let go, even though this bazillion dollar deal is still on track to close. He has been so stressed until he decided that instead of trying to spin his wheels, which may come to nothing, he is going to accept it and focus his energies to something he has always wanted to do, teach high school. At 51, he realizes that this could be his last chance to really enjoy a career.

And Subby, one reason you will always be successful, is because no matter what you you have to do to make ends meet, you always seem to do it with a good attitude and that will always take you very far! :)

IT field is great where I live...The girl that had my job before me, got her degree and left for a much higher paying job...took her no time at all to get one either...A chief where I work is retiring and already has a six figure job waiting for him...that on top of his military retirement.

The IT field appears to be strong every where.
You just need the skills and job history to get hired. If you have that there is no shortage of jobs.

Take it from a Chinese philosopoher. "Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life."

I began doing what I love when I started working for myself. Posted Image

I'm losing my teaching position due to budget cuts. I think this effectively ends my teaching career, so I've enrolled in the nursing program at Chattahoochee Tech. I like to teach, but that seems to happen less and less, so I think I'm ready for a change.

I think you are making a good decision, TJB!

In the medical field you can count on having a job. My granddaughter is an RN now, and she loves her work at Kennestone's Emergency Care Center. Her Mother (my daughter) just got her plumbing license; I call her Melody The Plumber.

I'm sorry, about your teaching position, but I've got faith in you. You are going to be alright.

He certainly does, AGG!

Subby treats his customers with the utmost care and understanding. He also tells them the truth about their issues regarding their machinery.

I have known Subby for several years. I have witnessed his turmoil as he went from working for someone else's customers to finally starting to work for his own customers. That's what small business is all about. He stopped working for big business and narrowed his attentions down to his own business.

As a small business advocate I don't like big business. Some people think the bigger the better, but for who?; I always say. It might be better for AT&T, and some people likes them, but not me.

Big business has more to do with China, than it does us, and I have always kept my China in the China cabinet, because I can't afford to use it to eat from itPosted Image.
