I know, crazy, but it's true. They have taken everything we have set out - Chairs, Tables, Large Toys, Extra Bags.... anything. We pay $60 a quarter - but we have 2 cans. Not really sure how much 1 can is but I know that it is less.

I second this... be firm with them.
If they threaten you, ask to have a supervisor put on the line, and tell her you never had a contract, they do not have your signature on file - just because they bought the old business out does not lock you into a contract you never made with American Disposal.
Then be prepared to have it take 3 or more months of billing to get it taken care of.
The will also charge you until they get their "can" back - even when they neglect to pick it up. They did not do this to me, but I know of families they did do it to.
There are many threads about American Disposal on paulding.com from last summer. At that point they took over more routes than they could service, changed the crews that picked up before, even though they used the old trucks that were our first provider, and the new crews could not seem to remember what houses needed service.
Many of us waited weeks to have our trash picked up - even though we were told, "Oh, we will be there tomorrow." They would skip whole subdivisions.
I wish you luck. It has been almost a year, maybe they are better. At the time the only contact phone number was up in Virginia - I think.

An optomist may not get there any faster, but he'll enjoy the trip more If you believe you can, you can --- and if you can't, at least you believed you could!
