OK, now I am a bit worried, at least about the tenderette green beans, tomatoes, peppers, squash and cukes. Okra is not up yet.

I like the cooler weather, but 38F is a bit much after the weather of the past month.

Friday we are going back into the 80s.

We had the warmest March on record and this may be the longest blackberry winter on record.
I have azalea, iris, roses, clematis and Stella Doro lilies all blooming at the same time.
I may have lost some seeds with that freeze,I am going to reseed the green beans and a few squash hills, I also have some rose blooms that are funky, I think they may have got touched too.

Cucumber really didn't transplant right (died mostly), so we'll do those again -- or just buy the plants as the seeds are just not working in the garden or from inside-to-outside.
Onions didn't produce bulbs due to being too warm, who knows what we'll do about that (maybe replant?) Right now I have large "green onions" ..... :(
Tomatoes we have 9 quarter size or bigger already in progress, will cover a bit.
Potatoes are doing great as are the peppers.
Green beans we are skipping this year.

Some of my seeds have not come up and I think it is because the ground is not warm enough.

I've got my peppers and tomatoes moved back against the wall again to keep them out of the wind and I'll be covering them.

I'll be glad when this is over, but I still ain't complaining....this has been the best spring in a long time.

You got that right. And I don't mind too much if the warm weather stuff we have gets a little too cold. I think they will be OK, just maybe slowed down. I will have them all covered shortly.

The peas, lettuce, arugula, broccoli and potatoes. I have never had potatoes this far along before the end of April, and these cool nights should help them set plenty of tubers. If true, it will be a bumper crop of taters.Posted Image

Mine are ok this morning, it's tonight that will be touch and go.....

TWC says 37 for the Dallas area tonight. WeatherUnderground says 39.

I'm just glad that Nor'easter missed us........poor people up the eastern seaboard are going to get up to 4" of rain and/or snow/ice.

Better them than us

Yeah, tonight is going to be touch and go. 1 degree can make a difference.

The taller tomatoes are my biggest concern. I have 6 that are 18" to 24". I have a large sheet of plastic that will cover the bed, but even still....38F will leave some frost.

And the beans that are just up, and another bed that would be coming up in a couple more days will get slowed down and possibly damaged.

Me too LR. It is on its own tonight. If it kills everything that's just one less thing to have to deal with. Good luck tomatoes.

I'm praying with you. I can't cover it all and the covers flapping in the wind can do a lot of damage.
RIP sweet Ashton. We will never forget you.

Well? Did it or didn't it? All my stuff looks okay. I saw a little frost on the roof but I think the ground was warm enough that it didn't frost on the plants.

Hope this is the last of the cold weather!!!

We covered everything and they appear to be fine. We did have some frost in the lower areas, but my raised bed soil is pretty warm by this stage,

The cool weather plants on the other hand LOVE the cool nights.

Mine toughed it out, too, and they seem okay today. I gave them a good drink this morning in case the wind dried them out. I am very glad that I tied my peas to their trellis a few days ago. They got quite a blowing.

I have built Mrs Surepip a gigantic work bench for the garden. 2'x4' with a plastic top that has 1" square holes. Underneath it there are 2 pull out totes the dirt can fall into from the potting bench and go back into her big trash can of potting soil.

A shelf with a covered roof sits to the back at 4' off the ground that can hold sevin dust cans, miracle grow fertilizer, her glove, etc.

And it looks nice, to say the least.

Now we have to find some strong able body assistants to carry the damn thing to the garden.

Volunteers ?
