My son is still indecisive about what college to go to. He wants to go for Graphic Design but the two schools that he was really interested in (SCAD and Art Institute) are way out of our price range. He has a friend that is going to Southern Poly so he is now wanting to check it out.

I would think the curriculum would differ slightly with S/P being more technical and SCAD being directed more toward the artist.

My cousin is in this field. I'll try to find out where he went to school.

BTW, I have three cousins that graduated from Southern Poly, one is an electrical engineer, one a mechanical engineer and the other had a degree in industrial engineering.

I can also think of two guys that I work with on a regular basis that have degrees from Southern and I much prefer working with them over the people from Auburn, Florida and GA Tech. They seem to have more common sense and less attitude.

Bottom line: Southern Poly is a well respected school.

Southern Tech was always well respected even when it was a 2 year college. Attended '68 & '69.
The comfort, the inexpressible comfort of feeling safe with a person; having neither to weigh thoughts nor measure words, but to pour them all out, just as they are, chaff and grain together, knowing that a faithful hand will take and sift them, keep what is worth keeping, and then, with a breath of kindness, blow the rest away.

I don't know the guys mentioned, but this has been my experience as well. Southern Tech is a great school.

I went to school at Kennesaw State for Graphic Design before changing to Marketing because of a career change. But I know a few people that went there and are making really good money in the industry with a KSU degree.

My son is majoring in Mechanical Engineering at Southern Poly and it is a challenging school. My husband, who works at Lockheed, says he would rather hire Southern Poly engineering majors over many of the more "prestigious" schools. Says they get more hands on experience and learn more application.
Love never ends; it just changes shape.

Sadly, my son quit Southern Poly because their administration & billing was a nightmare .

He decided to start over & is now taking his core classes AGAIN at Chatt Tech .
Then he will transfer to KSU .

My only advice is get everything in writing .
He would talk to one person & they would bill him $200 .
The next person would say "oh no, it's $400".
And they next would say it was $600 .
Then he would get a bill in the mail for $900 .
When you go to the office , they run you around and everyone says something different.
It is very unorganized.
Just crazy - a total lack of communication in their administration office.

It may be a great school .
But warning on admissions .
They loose many students for that reason .
google it so you'll be prepared & not get screwed.

My bro graduated from Southern Tech as a structural engineer. They shared profs with Ga Tech at the time. His boss told him the same thing you folks were saying. Boss went to Ga Tech but prefers to hire Southern Tech.
RIP sweet Ashton. We will never forget you.
