I completely agree that the parents get their kids a good lawyer but I also would want my child to learn that this type of behavior is not what we want. I would hope the punishment will be such that they will regret their acts but not destroy their future.

I would hope that most of these students get scared straight. They're all young enough to start making better decisions and still end up with a decent future.....provided they don't end up with felony convictions.

There seems to be a lynch mob in the community, hince my a-hole statements. To read posts in this thread and others, you would think we had mass murderers in our community (a crime is a crime, right?).

Let me set some of this record straight -- I know this family quite well and known them for years (and yes, I know some of the other kids too).

1. I believe this young man when he says that he only did the road and one letter on the neighborhood sign. I believe him when he says he did tell the school what he saw on his way home that night. I don't think at the time he really thought that what they were doing was illegal and should call the cops. Realisitically folks, who is always at their best judgement at 2am?

2. I do not and will not believe that this kid (or any of these kids) lives should be altered FOREVER because of this incident. That punishment doesn't fit the crime. That's one thing that I've been contemplating lately - not just with regards to this - but our sense of what the punishment should be for various crimes is really out of whack. You all are asking that this young man forever pay the price for a STUPID and, quite frankly, accepted senior prank. Painting the road in front of the school is an ACCEPTED prank. We've had this discussion on this board. As for the neighborhood sign, they fixed the damage and, as I understand, the HOA is not pursuing anything further.

3. Without going into details, the reasons that the tribunal gave this young man for not allowing him back in school were ridiculous. But, at the end of the day, in my humble opinion, the school system has boxed themselves into a corner and now they're trying to save their a$$es in all directions - they can't let these kids back into the school - or the mob will hunt them down and never reelect them. But, they can't kick these kids out because they need them for EPHS graduation rate, test scores, etc. The average GPA of this group is a 4.25.

4. I'm really glad that they are pushing this issue. This kid has 4 AP classes and 2 advanced classes. The theory is that putting them in ombudsman is giving them their education. Well, it's not. You can't replace an AP teacher and class with 3 hours of computer time. The school wants their cake and eat it too.

The fact is that the school system has WAY overreacted to this whole situation (remember - they did $40,000 worth of damage - in the end - $1000 worth of chemicals and the maintenance staff's time, which would have been paid no matter what, for a total of $7500). They can't back down - but they can't screw the school either. In the end, it's young men like this that's going to get screwed for a senior prank that is ACCEPTABLE.

This was taking it beyond the 'tradition' of painting the road in front of the school. One letter or ten, he still defaced property. For the record though, I don't think these kids should have been expelled. No prom, no 'walking' with rest of class at graduation, and reduced sentence and fines.

Is the neighborhood sign the school system's concern?

Seriously, don't you think that these kids know by now that what they did was wrong? I highly doubt, at this point, that if the DA decided to reduce everyone to misdemeanors that they would be walking around saying na-na-na-na-na, look what we got away with. They surely have learned a lesson. Let them graduate and let them take this lesson with them and learn from it.

No one is saying they cant graduate. They just cant do it the traditional way. The da will probably reduce it to a misdemeanor or they will get a ore trial diversion program in which they jump through a series of hoops and its wiped from their record. So where is the long term damage?

They still can walk with their class for graduation.

You are naive if you think this will just be wiped away. I interviewed a kid who made a stupid move and was shocked when the incident came up on his background check. He said he was told that since it was his first time they would seal everything after he completed his punishment. He did everything and it was sealed, but way before then the arrest was published on the county website and has never gone away and pulls up on most searches. Unless they are extremely lucky, nothing goes completely away. And no, he didn't get the job....

Now relate this to the last time you got a speeding ticket.... how do you justify your stance now?

Something that makes me wonder about how some of you feel about the legal system.... not very fair or what I call balanced from a few of you.

(I know who you are since you voiced your sted fast thoughts on .... shut up an pay the ticket stance.... now you think the young adults deserve a pass)

Fits the hypocritical position very well.... you know who you are...

Just a interesting observation....

It is time to vote every Paulding elected official out of office and get rid of the good ole boy system.

Do your part and vote them out ! !

Better to have a new clown in the office, then to let the current ones continue to rule.

I don't recall if I participated in the conversation of which you speak, but here are my thoughts......

Pay the ticket and move on with your life. Right or wrong, a traffic violation is relatively minor.

I'm not naive. I have seen the system at work first hand. Ive seen someone walk away from two felony charges, one was just a charge and diversion was offered, the other was a conviction where jail time was served. Both times the person was able to have their record expunged and it does not show up. I have seen the justice system work first hand in paulding county in particular. Jump through enough hoops (there will be many, and it wont be cheap) but you can make things go away.

I hate it for the young man but I think he should lose his scholarship to Georgia Tech. I'm sure Georgia Tech doesn't want someone that would spray paint anywhere on their campus. Very disrespectful.

Interesting. Why didn't the press use this kid's mugshot instead of the picture they used? Talk about media manipulation.

I would be surprised if he's even allowed to attend GT if legal charges stick.

If the painting of the road has been happening in front of my house for the past ten years and I hadn't done anything about it for the last ten years, I wouldn't have to post my address. :)!

And, just to be clear - it's hypocrites. No animals were involved in the commission of the senior prank or in the commission of the crimes (which are two very, very different events).

So you know for a fact no one has ever complained about the way the road has been messed up in the past? You also know for a fact that they have caught students doing this and have just let them go before....Wow where did you get these facts from ?

I PERSONALLY have complained several times about the road painting. To both Shearin and Austin, made phone calls to EPHS, and to PCDOT to ask that they "blacktop" (or whatever) over the childish artwork.

Whether any of the little punks have ever been caught is unknown to me. But,if they had, I'm sure all the molly-coddling parents would have been on here whining about how unfair it is that Bubba Jr. got caught breaking the law.

I get it....those who live on the dirt roads are just jealous they don't have any blacktop to spray paint on.

Um Genius, a road does not equal a house.... (FYI, I never said he didn't have the right to call, I just think there is a lot more to worry about in life than some spray paint on the road. Read posts and process please before you spout off such nonsense.) And I said bigger things to worry about than a road bugging you. Repeating. -->

You are correct, more people have paid on the road than a house.More people use that road than a house, that's why everyone pays.

Maybe you should have been out there doing the clean up for free, instead of using my money.

He didn't have a good enough lawyer.

My "precious" "darling" daughters  felony speeding ticket shows no where on her record due to the pre-trail diversion program and a good lawyer. Dumb kid was doing 85 in a 45 2 weeks before her 18th birthday 5 years ago with her mother IN THE CAR! If she would have been 18 at the time it just would have been a hefty fine. No super speeder law at that time.

No doubt these parents should be doing all they can to help genius with his felony charge but the school system is doing the right thing. Actions have consequences. What a wonderful message for Einstein to learn this early in life......if only he had learned it a couple of days earlier.

If you live in a nice neighborhood and have to enter and exit your subdivision and pass by the mess everyday, then yes...it would bug me enough to make repetitive phone calls.

Why? Because it just....looks....TRASHY!!!!

Well alright then, I guess I am just a bit more low key than most because I used to live right beside the high school up until a few years ago and it didn't bother me in the least.... Different strokes.... :good:

If you live in a nice neighborhood and have to enter and exit your subdivision and pass by the mess everyday, then yes...it would bug me enough to make repetitive phone calls.

Why? Because it just....looks....TRASHY!!!!

Yeah. What Boo said. And speaking of TRASHY....

I just got to thinking about all the billboards inside the fence. Makes one wonder ' zactly how a private company manages to advertise on public property? It's one thing to be a supporter of the athletic program, but shouldn't those ads be aimed toward the football field instead of the general public?
Calling an illegal alien an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmacist".

The lawyer may have a case against the school system if he argues that the spray painting of the street became acceptable behavior and no students have been punished for the act in the past. Past precedence comes into play here, provided that there is evidence that this student only spraypainted the street. I think it's a battle worth fighting, and if it's my kid, I'd fight the mess out of it.

As far as the criminal charges, I don't know where that stands, because the legal system has its own jacked up rules.

Either way, some of you are a''holes. Straight up.

Senior prank at NPHS.
Attachment prank.jpg

Any thing involving those orange cones is a prank/joke at north paulding. The students and parents get a kick out of how many of them they think they have to use in the parking lot to control traffic...
Last year when the admin. came in one morning they found all the orange cones on top of the field house.

I was with some friends when someone showed a facebook page of North Paulding's senior prank where they grabbed for sale and advertising signs from the roads and put them all over the campus saving the county workers the trouble. I laughed and said yep we are raising capitalist up here instead of gangsters
