Well, for one thing, the boy is alive. That always takes the edge off the outrage, especially if the victim is NOT a minority.

No, no - I'm sure he thinks the two yoots who doused the boy with gas and set him alight *were* meting out 'justice.'

This is horrible and one event doesn't make the other any less significant. However, one main difference is that Zimmerman was a grown man and should have known better.

Are you saying that there was a time in your life that you didn't know better than to set someone on fire.

Not buying this.

I recall him being VERY vocal in the Terri Schiavo case.

Honestly, comparing tragedies is gross.

Who is comparing tragedies. The responses to said tragedies is a different matter. Neither one is less bad. A boy is dead another has been burned on the upper body, face and head and will possibly be blind or scarred for life. Both are the result of RACISM.

These types of attacks go beyond racism. Anybody who would shoot an unarmed teen or set someone on fire has a fu**ing screw loose.

I agree with your post, so far! ;) We did some crazy and sometimes mean things as kids, but setting another kid on fire.....well, that never crossed our minds. We were STILL humans, not rabid animals.

The OP is comparing news coverage of 2 different senseless acts with different outcomes. I don't get the op's intentions, I can only assume it's in an effort to stir the racial pot. Which I don't think needs much stirring.

Unless I'm mistaken, the OP's intention was to point out that some groups tend to 'stir the racial pot' more than others.

It is only news worthy if it’s a white person committing the crime. Reporting crimes against whites by non-whites is simply race baiting… Just ask the liberals on the forum.

I kinda think black people have a right to feel a little sensitive. It wasn't that many years ago, in Alabama, that the police looked the other way while black people (including women) were beaten in the streets for riding a bus. I might be sensitive too. But then again I have what is called empathy.

Why do I feel like, you are blowing off a 13 year old boy getting set on fire...I would be as outraged if it was a black 13 year old boy...But I bet I would have seen it on the news...Not like this case where I just found it on the internet by chance..

Black people have the right to feel sensitive....So are you saying that makes it OK to set white kids on fire...Come on!!!!!

It couldn't have been too severe or we'd see Jackson and his crew protesting it.

So you have empathy for the black boy and not the white one? :pardon: I thought the whole goal of the EQUAL RIGHTS MOVEMENT was to have EVERYONE treated as EQUALS.:pardon:

wow, clearly you people don't know me. at all. The thought of any child being hurt, ever, brings me to tears. OF COURSE I feel horrible for the kid. HORRIBLE. I'm deeply offended anyone would suggest otherwise. I just get tired of the suggestion that everything has to do with race, and I was trying to make the point that I can understand why black people might be a little more sensitive when it comes to an unarmed teenager being killed in the way he was.

I understand what you are saying and I actually agree. Black people should not play the victim for what happened in the past, I don't think they are owed anything. All i'm saying is I understand the sensitivity. If you don't, fine.

You're absolutely right. NOBODY should play the victim, or the villain, because of something that happened in the past. And at some point, we all have to say "you know what, I'm responsible for what I've done and nothing more". I agree with the OP, why haven't we heard about this on the news? Where is the outrage over this? Was this kid somewhere he shouldn't have been? Apparently the kid in Florida was, whether or not he was an innocent person. He was where he shouldn't have been, doing something he shouldn't been doing or else there would have been NO REASON for the security guard to have even approached him. If he was in his neighborhood, taking refuge from a rain like I heard claimed, the guard should have known who he was and not even have questioned why he was there or who he was.

I understand what you are saying and I actually agree. Black people should not play the victim for what happened in the past, I don't think they are owed anything. All i'm saying is I understand the sensitivity. If you don't, fine.

Are we worried that the black boys won't be punished?
I know they can't release the info about minors unless they try them as adults.
This and what happened to the young boy in Fl. are both wrong.
As far as reporting goes, most of the time with minors it is a brick wall.
My question would be more along the lines of racism and hate in the community, if it is widespread then racism is a dangerous problem in the community.
I consider racism a problem, not color, not community activism from one side or another to be as much of a problem as fertile ground.
Both races are known to cultivate racism and hatred.
And honestly looking at the numbers there doesn't seem to be a lack of black folks being caught and punished.
