Well they have made their way out of hibernation and in my house. During a normal year, I may see 6, I've seen six already since yesterday. I guess because we are in "summer" now, they have decided to come out to play early. Looks like it's going to be a bad year. Anybody know how to get rid of these things. We have them every year, but not this soon and not this many!!!! Help please, im ready to move!!!!!

My cats take care of most anything that crawls like that.
They won't bother with things like ants or gnats but for larger bugs they do a good job of catching and killing them.

They start moving to try and escape the heat, so they will be looking for cool areas. The best way to get rid of them is to keep some sort of poultry in your yard. Chickens, turkeys, ducks, geese, etc. No I am not kidding! They all love the scorpions! Other than that I would call an exterminator. We have used Cook's Pest Control for years.

Thanks, we use an exterminator but whatever they use does not work on these things!!

Call them and tell them. Seriously. They may not be using the right pesticide for scorpions. We have a spray put around the house, but they also have a dry ant bait in little green plastic things around the house because we have so many fire ants in our yard.

Boric Acid, aka roach powder. About $3 at your hardware store. Pet/kid friendly. Dust the perimeter of you house. It dehydrates their exoskeleton, along with that of many other creepy crawlers.

I've grown up and lived in Georgia all my life and I've seen a total of 3 brown scorpions here in my entire life, and 2 of those were already dead husks.

BTW, the last, and well only, time we had a live scorpion in my house, the cat come in here, tugged on my pants leg, and said "Dude I don't know what kind of bug that is but you need to go kill it, it's freaking me out.", and so I did.

We have seen many since we've been here for about 8 years. I never saw them in our other house. We have lots of woods here I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I saw 4 yesterday and 2 this morning. That is usually the cap. If I had seen them before we moved here, I would have never moved in this house. Those things are creepy. And my husband got bit by one last year, and he said it hurt like hell, it brought him to his knees, so I guess they want kill ya, but I don't want to find out the hard way!!!

Yeah I've heard about them from EVERYONE my whole life and thought they were a myth till seeing the first dead one at 19 and being, oh that's it, they're so itty bitty, and my friend said they feel like 100 wasp stings when they tag you, but I heard they won't kill you, unless you are allergic.

Maybe this is why my boys (the ducks) don't want to come home as often for dinner in the summer time!!

Seriously, during the cold months, my boys are sitting out back at 6pm quacking to be fed, but in the summer I have to go holler for them and even then they don't always come.
I've suspected that pickings must be good around the lake in the summer.

I've never had scorpions. They creep me out.

I know Douglas county has more than their share. Maybe if you live closer to Douglas, you get scorpions.

That and hard rains will bring the earth worms out because they have to stick their head out to breath. It's hard for them to breathe when their home is water logged (holes in the dirt). When we have a hard rain the earth worms and grubs in our front yard will come out looking for higher ground and get up on our concrete driveway, where they get stuck when it starts drying out. The robins then have a day long buffet just lying out for them down our entire driveway! It's so funny to look outside and see over a dozen robins feasting on half dried worms in our driveway! Earth worm jerky? LOL :D

I have lived all over Paulding and in a couple of places in Douglas within my life. The worst place, that I know of, is the Braswell Mountain area here in Paulding.

We've had many snakes in the past but now that you mention it the snake population has been reduced since Blondie got the ducks. I don't recall seeing any snakes the past couple of years.

There's only the two of them.
And I see them picking for bugs all day.
Don't think they'd take on a snake and IDK about a scorpion!

Oh my.....I have these little critters TERRIBLY at my house!! When I bought my house (2yrs ago) I thought my house was infested with them. I've only gotten 'stung' once, but that was enough! Felt like a hornet sting.... I was killing 4 or 5 a week.
I use Micro Pest Control, and told him thats what my biggest 'problem' was (along with these brown crazy looking spiders) and he came out and sprayed. Whatever he used, IT WORKS!! I only see them dead now :yahoo: YEAH me!!

Call them and tell 'em you are seeing scorpions. I have an exterminator because of scorpions. Since starting the treatments two years ago, I have never seen another one. Your exterminator company should offer to come back and retreat for free if you are seeing more bugs. If they don't offer free re-treatments, I'd find a company that does.

Crack Kitty usually takes on any large insect like palmetto bugs and scorpions, he's about as smart as asphalt but he'll dispatch the buggers if he sees 'em...

Yeah, lucky You!!!! I just don't think I can take another spring/summer of these things, you just never know when they will pop up. They crawl all on the walls, if you have anything on the floor you have to shake it before picking it up, Im constantly on the watch for them, a big nuisance!!!!

Do you have pine straw around your house? They nest in that.
I've never had them in Powder Springs, but in the early 90's I lived in one of my Dad's homes in Dallas for a few months, we used to get them there all of the time. When I got the exterminator out they were able to take care of them for the most part, but also warned us to remove the pine straw from around the house. We did and that helped as well.

They creep me out like spiders, hate them all.

Awesome! That should help. My dad was using it in the bushes around the house, I had never heard of that being an issue before, but the removal definitely cut down on the problem (along with the exterminator ;) ).

Good luck, they are creepy!

We have some in our flower bed in front of the house, but in the back yard we have tons of pine trees and the back yard is covered, but its pretty far from the house, that will be a feat to remove all of that. But I guess if we get what is around the house. We have the exterminator coming out tomorrow. Hopefully I want see any before they come. Thanks again!!!

Scorpions freak me out. I freeze. I have never been stung by one, but I freak out when I see one. I hope reading this didn't cause all these little critters to come out and find me. My husband just spread a bunch of pine straw the other day. Yeah for me....NOT!!!!

I think I freak out because my Daddy got stung by one when we lived in Texas and it made him really sick. I think Georgia scorpions are not as bad at the ones in Texas. I don't know, but I still freak. Most of the time they show up when I am home alone. Did I tell you I freak out when I see one. LOL

Getting stung by a typical one in Georgia does feel like a bee sting. To me the worst part was the itching like heck afterwards when it was healing. It itched worse than a spider bite. From what I have heard from other people, this is the normal response unless you are allergic to them.
