I've heard about some of the cases on this show but have never watched it. Does anyone watch it? Is there any explanation given for these types of behaviors?

My "strange addiction" has been featured on this show. I have trichotillomania. I pull my hair out, i've been doing it since I was 12. I try not to judge these people too much, although some of it seems completley nuts. :pardon:

Thanks for sharing. That must be stressful for you.

I've heard of that. Some of the things featured on the show I haven't---like the woman growing her nails so long and a girl drinking nail polish, etc.

Like I asked in my first post; on the shows are there any therapists that offer any explanations?

I've seen a few of the episodes. They are pretty insane. Yes, they do have doctors/therapists who come on and try to explain the dangers of their addictions.

That picture makes me sick. I hate toenails anyway and that is just gross. How does she walk?!

The one that grossed me out the most was the one where a woman was addicted to eating the yellow foam couch cushions. Not so much that she did it....it was more that she referred to it as "eating cushion." That phrase makes me gag!

There were a few with women eating cigarette ashes, toilet paper, Comet cleaner, laundry detergent, soap......I just felt so bad for them imaginging what they were doing to their insides and them thinking they can't stop.

Craving things like this is common enough during pregnancy that your Dr usually asks you about it in the beginning. I can't imagine but I know it exists. They also brought it up in my birthing class.

I watch the show occasionally and I always find my self sitting there like :o  :nea: .

Will to bet that 99% of this sheeze is 100% made up to get their 15 minutes of fame. Although the guy that has sex with his car, that HAS to be real. If I ever got close enough to a few of the ultra rare 60s/70s muscle cars I'd want to bang them too.

I threw up when the lady was drinking her own urine. Most of these people have enablers. If I let my nails grow like that, who would support me???

ROFL

I saw that one and it made me uncomfortable. And he told his DAD.. uh, NOOOOO.

Wasn't that also in the episode where the woman was snorting baby powder?

My Mom lives in another state, is retired and has lived alone since my Dad passed away 8 years ago. I phone her each evening and we talk about different things. For years we each watched Monk on Friday nights and then we would talk on the phone the next day about the episode; anything we thought should have been done differently, etc. She likes to watch investigative shows mostly, Dateline NBC, etc. One day she said that she wondered if anything good was going to be on that night. (She used to subscribe to TV Guide but doesn't now.) I told her I would look online and see. So now she likes for me to tell her what's coming on in her area on the different channels---so that's how I know about them. I cancelled my Comcast Cable TV service over a year ago and only watch a few shows that I get online: Revenge, some old Alfred Hitchcock shows and a few others.

On this clip a doctor talks about addictions to shopping and running. The runner is smiling when he talks about blisters and not being able to eat (painful effects from his running).

The woman who says she shops from 10:00am to 10:00pm; where does she get her money?

I'm not sure how much they dove into WHYthey carry out their addictions; it seemed to be more about how they were hurting themselves. I've only seen about 2 of the episodes, though, and they do 2 segments in each episode.
