This is horrible. I graduated from there and it was an amazing school just 10 years ago. Now it is one of the worst in the state. The Paulding Board of Education should be ashamed of itself for letting it get to this point. This is the school that is our counties namesake.

You must have graduated with my daughter. She did well at PCHS, and was accepted into the Governor's Honors in Spanish, the only person ever to go to Governor's Honors in a language.

I will send you a PM.

I guess the answer is to just throw more money at the problem?

I didn't see what they base this on.

If they're using the old NCLB scores, a single under-performing demographic that makes up a fraction of the school population can bring the entire school down.
Who is John Gault? - He's the successful business owner who didn't want to play by the new 'Law of the Land' so he closed up shop, packed up his stuff and left. He was joined by many other successful business owners who did the same. They stayed away until the government begged them to return and repealed the law.

East dominated county academics from the late 90's until the football team picked up in 2007. Then NPHS opened and started excelling. This may have something to do with the clientele attending the schools.

I absolutely did, and of course she got Governors Honors. She was a genius when it came to Spanish.

As for the solution to this, I do not think throwing money at it is the solution as much as paying attention to where the problem lies and finding what is working at East and North that is not working at PCHS. This school has too much heritage as a wonderful school with great students to go this direction.

I have moaned and groaned about the administration at PCHS for several years. Under the Segars/McAllister regime, PCHS hit rock bottom. Pubby even booted me off for a week for not being nice and for rambling on and on and on about how awful the administration of that school was.

Mr. Fincher was finally brought in to turn things around and hopefully in another year or two, PCHS can again excel both in the classroom and on the field, court, etc.

A larger percentage of parents and students who CARE about education.

They are starting that new magnet program at PCHS which will attract many of the top students from around the county. If that program gets counted in PCHS's general group, then they just fixed their problem.

 REALLY?

When Mr. Fincher realizes he needs to micro manage the idiots that are his ass. principals and keep the students in class things will improve.

Giving OSS for tardies is idiotic. The teachers could use a little help too. The freshman Math teacher, God love her!

It won't matter how many overacheivers, unless how they report progress changes, a small group of a single demographic can still bring the whole school down.

BTW - does anyone else remember the weekly problems they had before Segars was brought in to restore dicipline - there were reports of large fights all the time. I wonder how Fincher is going to keep it from restarting.

GA has a waiver. The rules have changed so that one or two sub-groups should not sink the ship. Honestly, I don't know all of the details, to know if its a better system or just a different system. Its not based on one or two things like 1 test and attendance. There is a whole list of things that can earn points for a school.

Are you there for the day to day operations of the school? Assistant principals are qualified to handle their job. Why should the be micro managed. Supposedly that's what Segars did and people didn't like his leadership style either. Darned if you do, darned if you don't.

It has everything to do with the demographics. The biggest indicator of academic success is the education of the parents and the income of the parents.
People. Planet. Profits. In that order.

Good luck PCHS. You are getting a sizable number of kids and families from SPMS who don't care about education. My son is so fed up with his classmates who don't care about school or grades. Heck even his home room teacher acknowledged there is a widespread issue at the school. Without going into detail and raising a big stink, the reason is totally socioeconomic. FYI not racial either. According to my son, white, black, boys, girls, no bias. They simply follow the lead of the parents. It is a tough situation.

Because these kids should be in their classroom.
