That was my biggest complaint about it as well. No rhyme or reason as to placement, much like WallyWorld.

However, if you really think about it, it does make some sense to have the Mexican tomatoes with the Mexican food and the Italian tomatoes with the spaghetti and other Italian foods.

I was shocked they had the little "Buddy" walker/chairs, canes and some blood pressure and/or oxygen monitors. I need to pick me up a cane that I can leave in my tote bag.

My biggest complaint about Aldi is the layout of the store. It didn't seem to have any rhyme or reason as to why one product was placed next to the other. Which will slow down my shopping considerably, and time is probably my biggest concern when grocery shopping. I don't shop at Walmart for the same reason, it takes to damn long to get in and out of the store. I was really disappointed that the Kroger in Hiram closed, it was by far the most convenient option for me. I will probably go back to Aldi if I need to pick up something quick and I can run in and get it because it would be quicker than driving to Dallas to go to Kroger or Ingles. I will also say that we got pork chops at Aldi for dinner Saturday night and they were good. For me personally I just don't see it as a viable option for a one stop grocery store, and it has nothing to do with the store brands, I buy store brand whenever possible even when going to Kroger.

Actually, this IS peak season for Florida strawberries which runs from mid-February to mid-March.

To early for Florida strawberries.Oh, and the bigger they are the less sweet. Well at least that's what I have always found to be true.

California strawberry season runs from April to June.

Florida from mid-February to mid-March.

I don't know. What I do know is that I have never bought, picked strawberries before June. Also could be that some of the growers are forcing the plants to mature. It could be that b/c of fruit being grown in other countries where it is in season Fl. growers could be trying to keep up. IDK.
Where was this festival held?

Ok, I went today..........

The prices are good. The milk is $1.99. I saw how they brand it with their name to look like the "NameBrand". It's not hard to figure out.

But what I want to know is how do you find where the food COMES FROM?

I read the labels of everything I picked up and all it said was "Distributed by Aldi Batavia, IL".

So how do you know where the food comes from? Is it safe to assume it's manufactured in the US?

I think the prices are great and if their "NoName" is as good as the brand that I buy then I will shop there.

BTW, I got the strawberries for $.79 and they are good and sweet, and I got a pineapple for $.99. Haven't cut it yet. That's a great price, especially if you make smoothies!!

You may want to nab one of those in the next few days. That may fall into their 'special' category of things that they don't stock regularly.

I just got back from there myself. The parking lot was pretty full, but I lucked up and got a place close to the door. I didn't buy much - just a sampling of some things to see how we like 'em. Apparently they don't carry 1% milk, which is a little disappointing, but my husband can make do with 2% occasionally.

They come from the same places that Kraft, Mayfield, Nabisco, etc come from. Most likely the EXACT same places. So, you would probably need to contact Aldi and ask who manufactures their items. Not likely they will tell you but I'd be willing to bet they come from the same factories. Only the packaging is different.

Did you know that Eggo products are made in Douglasville? At least I think it is Eggo. It might be Aunt Jemima.

I might stop by there tomorrow if I'm not totally exhausted after work tomorrow. Busy, busy, busy.

Parking lot was crowded today but didn't look completely full like it was on Thursday. I passed by around 11:30.

California strawberry season runs from April to June.

Florida from mid-February to mid-March.

Well maybe it is in that part of Florida. I just know in South Florida we never picked before June. And, OMG there is nothing like a fresh picked right off the vine strawberry.

This web site agrees that it is in season. All I know is it's not for me. But, smaller is still taster.

When all the brouhaha was going on about pet food, I looked at all of our dog's food and treats to see where they were made. I found one product that was made in Canada, but the rest just said 'Distributed by [XXX],' so I wrote to one of the companies (Del Monte) to see what they said. To their credit, I got this reply within a day:

It may be helpful for you to know that Federal regulations require a product to list the country of origin if it has been produced outside of the United States or one of its territories. So if one of our products does not specifically state the country of origin, then you can assume it was produced in the United States or a U.S. territory.

Thank you, that's kinda what I was thinking.

I've looked at food at other places (WholeFoods mayber??) and it has listed the country of orgin.

I may go back and try some things.

The chicken, beef, pork, etc., will have a plant number in teeny-tiny, itsy-bitsy letters, generally near the USDA seal. The chicken at Aldi had #6651. According to the USDA data base that is Tyson Foods in Shelbyville, Tennessee.

And I believe the USDA also requires any boxed/canned food sold here, or produce, which is NOT produced in the USA to say so very clearly on the label.

My strawberries I got were the best I've had this year. And they were not the HUGE ones like Kroger, but bitesize and sweet. I will get more.

I also noticed all the produce is prepackaged or sold by the piece, not the pound. Savings on not having to weight them.

I'm pretty sure Plant City IS south Florida. I know it's not the panhandle.

At any rate, the ones I got from Aldi were very good. Big, juicy, sweet. Much better than most of them I bought last year at Kroger.

Lord knows, I don't want to argue about Florida and strawberries, but Plant City is east of Tampa.

Homestead would be South Florida and a lot of produce comes from there as well.

Thank you. Like I said we never got strawberries until June.
Also like I said I tried the Aldi in Kennesaw may years ago. I wasn't impressed then, and it would require going out of my way to go there.

The nearest intersection is Cleburne Pkwy./Poplar Springs Rd. You can access it from Cleburne Pkwy. - there is a paved cut-through across the vacant lot on that corner.

I believe it is on the same side of the street as Home Depot, but down near the newer Racetrac.

I went Thursday afternoon and it was slammed packed! I've visitied the Acworth store several times and LOVE the produce quality and prices. I haven't tried too many other products from there yet, but I'm sure I will eventually, as I plan to make this a weekly grocery visit.

Ummmm, I don't think that facility flooded. It's pretty high ground. That might have been the one down near the Chattahoochee, though. The one in Douglasville is just off Veteran's Memorial, between Greystone and the new firing range. Pretty sure that didn't flood.

If you're on 278 heading toward Powder Springs, you can turn into the parking lot off 278. If you're coming from behind the store--like from Cleburne Pkwy or from Douglasville up Hiram-Powder Springs Road (like you're coming from Taylor Farm subdivision), you have to turn off Cleburne Parkway and wind your way around to the parking lot. Also, if you're coming from Poplar Springs Rd or from Powder Springs on 278, the easiest way is from Cleburne Parkway. Turn left onto Cleburne Pkwy from 278 and then make a right.

I don't recommend the frozen rising crust pepperoni pizza they carry. Its worse than school pizza. It tastes like 3 dollar pizza.

I haven't tried it but will put it on the short list of things to avoid. I had that same feeling about Freschetta pizza. My daughter and SIL said not to buy the tacos.

Ours, too! I made strawberry shortcake, and the berries were sweet, juicy, YUMMY, and $.69 for a big carton.

I also bought 5# of grapefruit for $.99, one of which I had for breakfast this morning. It was SO GOOD! And there are 5 more left in the bag. At 16.5 cents each, I am plenty happy! :D

The strawberries were great. I don't like the BiG ones that are green on one side.

And I didn't even find any rotten ones. I paid $.79 today.

I'll go back and try some things. The prices are really good, it's just a different way of shopping.

And I think it's great the cashiers can sit down! WOW

I think someone asked WHERE this new Aldi is ??

It's just about the corner of Cleburne Parkway and Poplar Springs Rd as you
are leaving Hiram. IT's just before the Racetrac .

You enter it from 278 OR from Cleburne Parkway....

I live around the corner on Poplar Springs Road...so it will be very very
convenient for us.

WE did not go YET.
We NEVER go to a brand new place for the very first month--- we STAY AWAY.
Restaurant or store or whatever. We just don't do crowds well.

for the ones wondering where things are from... this is a link that was given to me a while back:
http://whereismymilkfrom.com/
this is to find out where your milk is from. I just tried it on a gallon I got from ALDI yesterday and came back with Country Delite Farms in Nashville, Tn.

My hubby is from England and there the cashiers do not have scanners but have to memorize all the prices in the store.

The loaf bread was very fresh, my hubby got bologna and sliced cheese (since I introduced bologna sandwiches to him about a year ago I dont think he has gone more than 2 days without one) and said it was as good as what we get at Ingels. I liked the look of the talapia and plan to go back to get some. We will definately be shopping there again.

this thread is bringing back memories of my mom and her fervent belief that she only got sick from produce that **I** bought at Winn Dixie and not from produce that my sister bought at Ingles. Or Kroger. Or Publix. Or the farmer's market. Or Harrys. Or Life Grocery. She COULD tell a difference. :nea:  Then one day I bought the same identical item (cabbage) from Ingles and told her it came from Ingles (since she could eat cabbage my sister bought there). She got sick anyway. Called me up and ranted and raved and screamed at me that I was trying to KILL her! I never was able to convince her that Winn Dixie could not do anything to their produce that Ingles didn't. I even had the Department of Agriculture send me information about how food comes into the state and process by which it is deemed safe and then how it is distributed. Still couldn't convince her that the cabbage purchased at Winn Dixie had nothing on or in it that the cabbage purchased at Publix didn't have. Interestingly enough, the person I talked to at the Department of Agriculture had a mom, close to my mom's age, who was under the same misconception. I guess a lot of people are.

BTW, if I can save 40% on my grocery bill, I don't care if I have to unload the delivery truck myself. Food prices continue to go up, but our income does not.

Thanks for that. I was wondering where it came from.

It's good to know the milk comes out of Tennessee. Surepip said the chicken comes out of Tennessee as well , from Tyson I think he said.

I'm pretty sure Plant City IS south Florida. I know it's not the panhandle.

At any rate, the ones I got from Aldi were very good. Big, juicy, sweet. Much better than most of them I bought last year at Kroger.

PLANT CITY is near Lakeland and Orlando Florida...CENTRAL FLORIDA.
Been there recently.

NOT far from Tampa actually .

Since I am most familiar with the panhandle, I consider everything below Steinhatchee SOUTH Florida. :pardon: I definitely consider Orlando to be south Florida.

Whether it's central or south FL, I do believe it's still AMERICAN. ;)

(PS: It's East of Tampa, about 35 miles or so from the Bay.)

And those strawberries were S-W-E-E-T!!

The ones I got on Thursday were awesome! I didn't buy any today because they didn't look as good. Still looked good but not as good as they were opening day.

Don't buy the artichoke hearts. Nice big jar, good price, hubby and I popped one in our mouth and both run to the garbage can. It was kinda funny, We got strawberries sunday for .69. They were small and kinda green. Guess they were trying to get rid of them. But I will probably go back and try again.
