It is a trashy bar and unsafe. OMG, when my daughter was pregnant with my grandson, a friend brought her some wings from there and she became hooked. She made an order to go one night, she and my SIL went in to get them and apparently there is a dance floor. W-E-L-L, she said this lady and man were cutting a rug when suddenly the lady took a quick spin and her teeth flew out and clattered across the dance floor. She proceeded to snatch them up, poke them back into her mouth and daughter swears she never missed a beat! Now, THATS my kind of place!!!!! NOT!!!!! Do they really serve THAT much alcohol there?!

Not to get too far from this riveting topic but my first trip to Mias, I had a similar experience. First of all, I like Mias just fine for a drink and some really good wings. I wouldnt go by myself or even another girlfriend but as couples or a group it can be fun and close to home.
We were sitting at a bar(not THE bar)facing the (parkay wood)dance floor. I'm a people watcher so I wanna be able to have a good view. The bartender was friendly and I guess fairly normal. We were giggling about the stereotypical people who frequent bars like that(not ALL, just SOME). So, she says to us, "you see that blonde girl dancing with the long, haired gray headed man?". Let me say first that this girl looked in her mid 30's, clean cut, attractive enough...the man however looked like he hadnt seen a shower and a shave for weeks and at least 25 yrs older than her. We had already noticed them b/c this girl was seriously gettin' down. They danced every song together for at least an hour.
Thats when the bartender says,"yeah, they may be dancing together like that but she has no idea that he is the homeless man who basically lives in the lot behind the bar. He's here all the time and she's too drunk to notice."
THAT place makes Hiram Station look like The Astoria in NY.

I know because I have been a few times to watch Subby's band, I always leave by 11:00 it gets really scary after that time
Meh. I'm not opposed to hanging out there from time to time. Only once have I felt unsafe at the station, and that was was 4 years ago...today as a matter of fact....when I was attacked in the parking lot by a surprise kitty.
Other than that, the experience is what you make it. Just like the rest of life. ::shrug::

When was the last time you went there? And why should the owner go visit the guy at the hospital? Would you feel sorry for the buy behind bars who was arrested for causing problems on his establishment because be was drink. If you heard the interview and read the article the guy was asked to leave and didn't want to. He was escorted outside and fell. Why arrest the bouncer for doing his job. Pure crazieness. Some people need to think before they speak. Just saying.

I just hate that my uncle will have to suffer for the rest of his life because some "macho bouncer" chose to put their hands on him instead of being professional. Since you know so much about the situation... did your people the ones that gave you 3 of the same accounts bother to tell you why they follwed the man and his girlfriend out into the parking lot??? Did they bother to explain why they harrased them as they were waiting on a cab??????... I bet not!!

Exactly. It was vague. My point proven by you. Thanks. I don't know the guy but I do know the owners, workers and a huge amount of the patrons. And that us why I feel like it us ludicrous to attack any of them for a guy who the "media" portrayed as causing trouble and asked to leave because of being intoxicated and got hurt. I am not saying I am coldhearted and not concerned for his full recovery. But prices do have to be paid for your own choices you make. He chose to go into the bar and drink, therefore impairing his judgment so whatever happened was his doing. The owners or workers didn't go to his home and bring him there. And no I wasn't there that night but until you just asked you didn't know I wasn't. I have heard from others who were that have no stake on the outcome or not. And they all tell the same story. And like I said why arrest someone for doing what they were paid to do. Escort a belligerent patron outside the building. And if your perception to begin with was go on broad daylight to a place on your opinion was scraping the bottom of the barrel you obviously believe everything you hear instead of basing your own opinion. And you also stated you went several times. If the environment was so bad the ,,first time why go back?

Thank you. Its an unfortunate situation. I just hate how people are trying to blame him, for someone else hitting him. I was always raised knowing that I am responsible for my own actions and that no one can make me do anything. If I hit someone its because I made the decision to do so. I just feel like the employees should have had more self control, and been more professional, instead of beating up a patron, that brings money into their establishment for being drunk or whatever... ya know?!?!
Scroker, I must ask.. Were you there the evening this happened?
If not, Are you sure what you have heard is the truth? There are many sides to each story. Have the authorities wrapped up the investigation and arrested anyone?
We all pray for your family and especially your uncle as this is definitely a terrible event.

Ok. Read this well because this is the last I am going to post about it. First go back and reread once again what I have written this far. As I explained on the pm I never said anything about my family or my friends. And once again I heard the same story from 3 different people that were there. And how and why would you would you want someone who didn't see or hear anything stand up foryour uncle. It may be to his detriment. Yes this is an awful situation for all involved. I am and I repeat am not hiding anything from anyone about this. And I stand behind my comment if a 44 year old mangoesanywhere and drinks he is responsible for the outcome if it has to do with drinking. Common sense tells you that. Had he not been drinking I can just a about guarantee the outould have been drastically different. I drink and sometimes I drink toomuch and the choice I make to got out in public is my choice not anyone elses. Bottom line neither of us were there so we dont need to speculate.. The truth will eventually come out without either if our input. Good Day.
I hate that this man was hurt so badly but it is just another reason to stay away from rough places that serve alsohol. Nothing good can come of it. Things can go awry anywhere but when you mix these elements, the chance of something horrible happening goes way up.

In fact, bar fights are something I almost never see anymore, at any given bar. When I started playing clubs, I was only 18 yrs old, and it was 1983. I saw fights all the time. This went on for several years, but it just started fading away with time. The last two times I saw a bar fight, it was at the same club in Marietta. In fact, it included a couple of my band mates, who jumped off the stage to tear a couple of trouble makers away from their wives, who were being harassed. While there will always be a drunk who over does things, the younger people in bars seem to be a lot more laid back than the groups that frequented bars in the 80's and early 90's.
Another thing to consider is what kind of people a good band brings in too. I have went to bars I knew very well when a different band was playing, and the patrons were completely different than the people Simply Southern brings in. All of our fans have been supporting us for 10 years now. And they are all good people, many who do not even drink. They just want to hear good live music. I have enjoyed every gig I played at Hiram Station, as well. Crap still happens, and always will. I just don't see it very much anymore. On a personal note, I never go to bars unless I'm there to play music, except when Spotlight Saloon was open, I loved going there for a few games of pool on a Sunday afternoon. I sure do miss that since they closed down....again.

Couldn't agree with you more there was a time when my husband was playing in pool leagues where I was in either the spotlight or Hiram station once or twice a week. I'm not a drinker so I watched what happened in those places completely sober. I never saw a bar fight, and rarely saw anyone stumbling drunk even. I never feared for my safety, and usually had a pleasant time tor being a non-drinker in a bar
I hate that this man had a life changing injury, but I agree that when you go out and get rip roaring drunk you and only you are responsible for the outcome. Which is why I don't drink. The feeling of intoxication is not worth life long issues that could come from it. I know plenty of people drink and never have a negative experience and cant understand where I come from, but ive seen what alcohol can do to a person and its not worth it, to me at least.
