I am sooooooooo jelious and really wishing I was back in GA.
They said on the news last night that PUBLIX does not add it to their hamburger.
OK off to the COMMISSARY I go : X
Cosco was also on the list...But not BJ's which is close to me....
AGGGGGGGGGGGG
Please list stores that don't add it if you are aware of them.
Hopefully some of them will be by me
Closest stores to me are
Safeway
Foodlion
Giant
Shoppers

A viewer, Miles Herbert, wanted to know, “Is there any evidence that organic meat contains this pink slim?”
It turns out there isn’t. If your meat is stamped USDA Organic, it’s pure meat with no filler.
But critics say everything else is suspect because pink slime does not have to appear on the label. And the USDA is giving no indication it will force meat packers to lift the veil of secrecy any time soon.

I have ground our own beef and sausage for 25+ years. I have a grinder attachment that goes on my big Kitchen Aid unit.
The taste difference is night and day.
I will buy a whole sirloin tip when they are on sale, or bottom round roast, and if it is a store where I know the meat department people, I will try to get some back fat from the butcher. The fat trimmings off the Rib Roasts, Rib Eyes, T-Bones, NY Strips, etc. has the best flavor.
We generally do 15 pounds or so, and then freeze large patties and 1# bags in the seal-a-meal.
And neither of us has had a fast food burger in 20 years. Good think we like chicken.
With the grinder you can also do sausage yourself, and season it accordingly with no industrial perservatives, food coloring or any other additives. Normally Butts, and may a boneless loin mixed in, with sage, marjoram, etc. from the herb garden.

Dogs may not be our whole lives, but they make our lives whole.
A dog is not "almost human" and I know of no greater insult to the canine race than to describe it as such.
The more I see of humans, the more I admire dogs.
He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader.
He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.
The dog is a gentleman, I hope to go to his heaven, not man's.

It is much the same process and what pioneered stripping all the rest of any useable tissue off the cows to make the "pink slime".
Luckily for my side of the meat industry, there is not enough left on the carcass of a chicken to warrant trying to do this.
Although I will admit, I don't eat "Nuggets" or other such processed products. I want all meat, or none at all.

Unfortunately I happen to know a lot about how Ammonia acts in the human body.
Most people are not aware that our own bodies create ammonia, it is the by product of breaking down proteins in the body, we also make an enzyme within our bodies that attaches itself to the ammonia molecules so that the ammonia is picked up and removed by the kidneys.
Years ago when we used cloth diapers the ammonia smell would be very strong.
Mothers milk and formula is almost pure protein an infants body breaks down quite a bit.
I would not be at all surprised to find that sodium benzoate was on the list of ingredients as it binds with the ammonia and helps the body to eliminate ammonia, probably from the suggestion of nutritionist that work with the FDA in making this product safer for human consumption.
Before I say more I will add here that I do not eat ground beef and have not for many years, it is one of the most dangerous meat products on the market being prone to many harmful pathogens it is just not worth the risk of eating it.
The story breaking about pink slime certainly explains why we have seen fewer cases of E-coli in the last few years and fatalities from it in kids under 3.
The bottom line, the mass production of meat has many inherent dangers, the demand for ground meat products is huge, you want it and you want it to be safe, this is as safe as it gets folks, the ammonia kills potentially fatal pathogens and your body has the natural ability to process this chemical out as waste.
I can assure you that fastfood has found a replacement that is sterilizing meat in some form or another to reduce their liability when it comes to food born pathogens.
Knowing what I know I would stick with ammonia if I absolutely had to have a chemical in my meat to keep me and my family safe.

I was actually forced to learn about this to save my son's life. The metabolic system is very complicated, I have learned to explain it somewhat in layman's terms over the years.
P.com is the funnest job I have ever had. Pubby loves to learn, to the point of distraction, he has to be drug away from exploring knowledge on the internet constantly. If something peeks his interest just a little bit he will study it by researching it all day.
He is really very smart, he is a nerd. He is also a wealth of information on a surprising number of subjects.
He is fun to debate with, I am conservative and he is liberal so we have some very lively discussions. At the end of the day he and I are very close, he is very kind hearted and open minded. While he may not be a joy to debate with, he is a joy to work with, he has a creative side that you don't often see in people as intelligent as he is. It is fun to work on projects with him. It is funny that we are growing old together, we still come up with fun projects but we are finding ourselves limited by the amount of energy we have to follow through with them.

Another conservative I love!
I think I am going conservatively crazy!
