I've seen some photos of white dahlias and was wondering how they would grow here. Dahlias usually are stressed by hot weather and/or dry conditions.

Here's a white variety that is really beautiful in this photo:

I decided to order a Ghostie since it was so beautiful in the photo.

They are beautiful in the picture, I personally don't grow white flowers if I can help it. I do have mums that are white. For whatever reason I really hate the brown color that white flowers turn when they are done blooming.
I have a white rose bush in honor of my mother and I keep the dead blooms picked off because it bothers me so much.

That's the main reason I was asking about white dahlias. I was wondering how long they stay fresh looking. They look so beautiful in photos. I love gardenias, too.

Dahlias grow very well here. When it ceases to rain for weeks at a time they require watering, but they do well and if you want to gamble, you can leave the tubers in the ground over the winter and they will come back on their own. I feel pretty good about this year with the mild winter.

But we like the brilliant reds, lavenders, yellows, etc., especially the 2-tone varieties which look like you dipped the perimeter of the flower in bright paint.

I've grown dahlias in different colors that have done really well. The ones growing in raised beds in full sun several years ago during the drought were stressed by the weather. I've also noticed in general that they do better in temperatures in the 80s vs really hot summers.

When I try to click on the link wynnesdahlias, my Mcafee advises this; McAfee TrustedSource web reputation analysis found potential suspicious behavior on this site which may pose a security risk. Use with caution.

I did not get on this site because of it. Be careful

That's odd. I have the latest version of Norton 360 All-One Security and I've never gotten a warning at their website. I wonder why the difference?

Internet explorer sometimes shuts down p.com though with a similiar warning. I've wondered about that.

Concerning this company though they are very respected dahlia growers:

We grew our first dahlia in 1967 (Miss Rose Flecher) & the dahlia addiction began! The first time we entered a dahlia in competition was at the Northwest Washington Fair in 1975 & we have been entering them ever since!

In 1983 we joined the Vancouver Dahlia Society & won our first Head Table award in 1984 -Best BB Triple in show with Salmon Rays.

In 1985 we helped found the Whatcom County Dahlia Society where we met Bob & Alvy Simon.

...

In 2007 we won the Darrill Heart Medal for Wyn's Sensation

The Darrill Heart Medal is for highest average scoring AA or A dahlia in the American Dahlia Society trial gardens.

In 2008 one of our seedlings grown & shown by Paul & Cheryl Howard won Best Dahlia in Show at the Puget Sound Dahlia Association Show in Seattle. On it's second showing at the 2008 Fraser Valley Show in Canada it won Best AA in show. All these awards & it didn't even have a name yet!

Wynne's Dahlias grown by many avid dahlia growers from all over the world are frequently on the Head Table in Dahlia Shows.

Cory, Cheryl Howard, Paul Howard & Walt-Best AA in Show-Wyn's King Salmon

We have a 62 acre farm, but so far only 1 1/2 acres are dedicated to growing dahlias. On that 1 1/2 acres we grow approximately 7,000 dahlia plants. Walt does all the preparing, planting, weeding, fertilizing, tying up, digging, washing & cutting up himself, while Cory helps with evaluating, deadheading & disbudding and does the hand pollinating, planting seeds and transplanting seedlings. She also takes care of the flower beds around the house-- all 9 of them-- as well as the bookkeeping, pictures, order processing & computer work for Wynne's Dahlias (with help from their daughter, Natalie, on the website :-)
