Not Vent just Question, if phone is vibrating in class is that the same as having it out. I know they get ISS if it's out, but if it vibrates and they don't take it out, will they get ISS too. I know the rules have changed. Im worried because I sent my son a text last night, but for some reason it just went through. Im praying he has it on silent or better yet OFF. And im a worry wart, so I will be worrying about this all day... Uggggghh

Not sure.

BUT there is no need to worry too much.

ISS is not the end of the world. If he does have to go just laugh it off and use it as a lesson learned.

lmao. I thought that when I wrote it. OMG I am getting old. lol

They do seem like such a pain for so many reasons. They only reason I would think one would need one is so they can call their parents when after school activities are over and they need a ride, but who am I kidding. I am sure when my kids are in school they will have one lol.

I agree... teachers have better things to do then to have to tell kids to put their phones away 1900 times.

Can they take them to school? I've always wondered. My son takes his to school on weekends that he's going to his dads, but he has to check it in and out.

He got his phone in 8th grade and it started out as a safety net when he would catch the bus alone, since we are not in a subdivision. Now, He does have to call me when he finishes practice after school, other than that I don't know. But they do allow them to have them out during lunch and in between classes.

The rules are if they have them out and the teacher catches them they have to be sent to office and they get ISS for three days. Don't know how often its enforced. But they have given them more time throughout the day to have their phones out.

Im sure there are SOME who do complain and im sure most of the time it works, which is unfortunate. I did not have to cross that path, because my son says he always turns his phone off when he gets to school.

I would like to reply to the phone. I have been a sub teacher for 5 years. This year I was in a classroom where kids were using their ipod, cell phone and even 1 student pulled out a flat iron in class. Nothing was done to them at all. But 2 days later my 16 year old pulled a pencil out of his Basketball style shorts he phone fell out. The school was trying to give him ISS for 3 days. I did get it reduced but its in his main file that he got 3 periods of iss for a phone.

It's rude to have it out during class anyway! I'm going to get one for my son when he's in middle school to make sure he gets on the bus in the morning but if he has it out in school at all I will yank it from him. I see my nieces updating facebook and taking pictures of their teachers during class and it drives me crazy. When I was in school pagers were the thing to have but it was banned from school. Cellphones should be banned from classrooms--keep it in your locker or on silent in your backpack.

Funny I saw this thread yesterday. My child brought home a note from his school stating that the county only allows grades 9-12 to use their devices during school hours. Other kids are allowed to have phones but they must be turned off and kept in their backpack while on school property. A classmate of my child's had her phone confiscated because it fell out of her pocket in class. It was turned off but still a no-no.

I am a technology whore, but I honestly think Cell Phones should be completely banned from school. I know they were just becoming common when I graduated, but they were a distraction back in 2000 before texting even came along. We went years without them and managed perfectly, kids dont need that much distraction.

EPHS took out the pay phones out of the school when my girls were there many moons ago and you're weren't allowed to use the office phone unless you were sick. They were both involved in after school activities and often their plans or pick up times changed. After they removed the phones, I sent them to school with a phone and threats of terrible things to come if they used them at times they weren't supposed to. We never had a problem, but it was ridiculous to have no form of communication available to students to let their parents know of changes in their afternoon schedules and their schedules changed too often not be be informed.

Very good points that I agree with!
