Paulding County GOP Chairman Joseph Gullett recently announced that the Paulding County GOP will be awarding their 2nd Annual Young Conservative Scholarship Award. Last year's scholarship recipient was Nicole Bigman from North Paulding High School.

The purpose of the Paulding County GOP Young Scholar Award is to identify Paulding County's future conservative leaders and provide them with financial support as they further their education. Through the Young Scholar Award, the Paulding County GOP hopes to encourage students to reflect on the constitutional issues that form the cornerstone of the United States government.

Information about the scholarship can be found at http://pauldingrepub...Application.pdf ! The application deadline is April 16th.

Interesting essay question. I wonder who will win but I also wonder if it will shed light on the question of which is mightier, the pen or the sword.

Look I have very little love for the local GOP,but if there going to help some kid to go to college then there is hope.My Union has enhanced our scholarship fund. I have an independent board of teachers scoring the applicants, this year we will give two scholarships out of a thousand dollars a piece. We used fund drives and raffles,so it takes awhile to build up your fund. This could be there start who knows.

Give them and anyone else a chance then go from there.

This is actually the 2nd year we have done the scholarship. Last year, the scholarship was awarded to Nicole Bigman of North Paulding High School. See article here.
Chairman Gullett has really focused the party in direct efforts to help out the community. These include things like providing food every weekend for 14 kids at Robert's elementary school through the backpack program, delivering food and water to the last year's tornado victims in Cartersville and Ringgold, being a sponsor of the Paulding Family Alliance Center's annual fundraiser, as well as delivering signed Christmas cards to over 400 troops who weren't with their families during the Christmas holidays.
The Paulding GOP is focused on getting Republicans elected AND making our community a better place to live.

I wonder is the scholarship carries GOP fetish's along with it?

Why do you have to turn something of value to students who are in need of college money into something so blatantly political?:angry2: This is open to any student and they do not have to state whether they are even involved in politics. You should re read what you wrote and think about removing it. JMO

Potting the GOP name on the scholarship makes it political, NJ: not me !

The GOP has not shown any real concern for college age students. I think you should consider removing the idea that the scholarship is sponsored by the GOP. Posted Image

Paulding County GOP names 2nd annual Young Conservative Scholar

Paulding County, Georgia, May 7, 2012 — The Paulding County GOP is pleased to announce Daniel Caro as this year's recipient of the annual Young Conservative Scholar Award. Daniel's essay on the connection between the First Amendment and personal freedom also earned him the $500 scholarship that comes with the title of Young Conservative Scholar.

"Daniel's academic excellence, as well as his demonstrated commitment to helping those in need, exemplifies the leadership qualities we hope to foster with this scholarship," says PCGOP Chairman Joseph Gullett.

"Daniel's essay on the importance of the First Amendment as it relates to individual liberty showed us that he is a young man who has given thoughtful consideration to the meaning of the constitution in our daily lives," Gullett adds.

Caro, who is headed to Georgia Tech this fall, has been a star student throughout his high school career. A dynamic young man with a wide range of interests, Caro lettered in high school tennis while also participating in organizations such as DECA, BETA Club and the Spanish Honor Society. In addition to this full schedule of school and extracurricular activities, Caro has remained actively involved in his church, including mission trips to Peru and Brazil.

The Young Conservative Scholar Award is an annual $500 scholarship presented by the Paulding County GOP. Paulding county high school seniors vie for the award through an essay contest designed to get our community's young minds contemplating the role of the constitution in their daily lives.

This year’s Young Conservative Scholar Award was made possible through generous donations from Sherriff Gary Gulledge, Commission Chairman David Austin, Tax Commissioner Bill Watson, Post 1 Commissioner Larry Ragsdale, State House District 66 candidate Mickey Thompson, State House District 66 candidate Bob Snelling, State Senate District 31 candidate Bill Carruth, and PCGOP members Jason Anavitarte, Albert and Lydia Hallmark and Jack and Robyn Howard. In addition, artist Angela Trenchik from Houston County donated a collection of GOP-themed accessories for ongoing sales that raised funds for the scholarship.

"The Young Conservative Scholar Award wouldn't be possible without the incredible generosity of these elected officials and active party members," says Gullett. "The commitment to education and community enrichment that these Republicans have shown is a great source of pride for the Paulding County GOP."

$500? Sorry, but that's not much of a "scholarship". Maybe an "educational honorarium"?

No doubt. In ANY economy every penny counts. I just think that there aren't enough pennies to justify the description of "scholarship".

As a college student...I can assure you the $500 will be needed to just pay for parking and fee's to GT. It's about $1400 a semester for all the junk fees now.

Congrats Daniel.

Don't knock it. It helps to pay for books. Every penny counts and this is only the second year for this scholarship. I expect it will grow when the administration in Washington changes and folks in Paulding have more to donate to it. :)

With the award being so small, it seems likely that there are only a couple of benefactors. I think that it's a great idea! I'd suggest that the position-paper should be geared specifically at the "Conserve" aspect of conservatism.

Like, "Explain what it means to live the life of a conservative, especially what is it that you plan to conserve?"
