First, let me say that I am a huge fan of the automated system that Paulding Schools uses for getting out pertinent info to parents. It really has been great with school cancellations and important announcements.

I am not sure if the schools pay by the call or if they pay a flat fee for unlimited calls, but I am getting tired of the constant barrage of garbage calls from the school. I have gotten a call from EPMS almost every night since school started. Most of them have been concerning fund raisers and PTSA garbage, neither of which should be info that this service is used for.

Tonight, I got a call and it started out like all of the others. "This is an important message from East Paulding Middle School." Then, I received the important message that there was a women's Christian fellowship dinner on Thursday night. Really? That was the important news that the school system was paying to broadcast?

My worry is that if they keep bombarding us with garbage, that when they finally call with something halfway important, I won't even bother to listen, because I have long since started ignoring them.

Maybe I am just getting crotchety and old, but I really don't think that this service should be used for advertising.

If so, I must be too, 'cause I agree with you.

I don't like automated calls, if they use them, it should be for something important.

We got one from North about the last Senior Portrait day. That I considered OK since the information is a real deadline that would never make it home with a lot of kids. (ref: postings about missed senior pictures on Pcom a few weeks ago)

PTSA fundraisers would not be. Almost every night would have me in the office complaining.

Wow, I have children in 3 separate schools, and am not (thankfully) being barraged with calls. I guess you could call the school and ask who to contact with a complaint.

If you listen all the way to the end you can opt out of these phone calls from the school.

The problem is that I would like to be able to get them for actual important announcements.

I have a child at EPMS, and we get a call about once a week. We see the # on the caller id and allow the answering machine to get it. Then we will listen to the message, when it starts off with something we don't care about, we just hit delete and don't continue to listen to the message. With everyone's busy schedule, alot of times the kids don't get the info to the parents. This is one way they are getting the info to the parents. If it doesn't apply, hang up or delete the message. I would much rather delete 1 message a week and KNOW that they are doing their best to let me know what is going on.

People who are complaining about the calls will be the ones that complain that they didn't know about something that was happening or going on. It's like here, if you don't like what someone says, ignore them, don't read it, or move past them. It's the same concept IMHO. But be glad they are trying to get the info out to the people that need to know.

edited to say: what's not important to you, may be important to someone else.

 First why is this in a school and second why did you need to know about it?

Because we still have freedom of religion. I don't think it merited a calling post, though - there we agree.

I guess my question was, is this a school club or was this some random meeting of one of the church groups that rents school space? I just wasn't sure what one thing had to do with another. If it was a school club like FCA or the like I could see the correlation, but if it was some random church happening, WTF?
