Support for schools?

Wouldn't it be good to see school policies actually supported by the parents instead of being attacked?
Wouldn't it be good to see parents support the teachers in their grading or discipline instead calling the board office or principal?
Wouldn't it be good to have the principal back-up the teachers on written policies that are broken by students and not bend over for the parents?
Wouldn't it be good if the board office backed up the principals for enforcing the policies they vote in?
On another note, wouldn't it be good to know what actually goes on in the schools instead of finding out by someone "letting it slip" at the barber shop or hair salon?
Wouldn't it be good to have a "news source" that provided actual information about the school system whether good or bad?
There are actually some places around the state where some if not all of these things happen. Not here.

You're bitter. That makes me sad for your students.

Please tell me you don't believe everything you hear at the "barber shop" or "hair salon".

I am not bitter. I talk to teachers in other systems and they are amazed at the things that go on in our system. There are other systems like the one here but there are some that are much better.

No I don't but it would be good to have a reliable source that reports the happenings in the system without leaving out details that should be public knowledge.

Sounds to me like you're interested in gossip. In which case, we have pcom for that.
Otherwise, the happenings at the school can be found at PTA meetings, Board meetings, and by simply calling and asking.
And yes, multiple anti-administrator threads make you bitter in my book.

I have not encountered many administrators that have impressed me with their honesty, leadership skills, etc. That is true. I have never been to a PTA meeting as a parent where I really learned much about the school and what went on in the school. I have been to a board meeting where all I got were announcements on what they wanted us to hear that was decided in private and little else.
And all I know about you is how you think you are the best at what you do and get very little , if any respect from other teachers because of your arrogance and other issues.
I started this thread because I want people to think about the school system and maybe what would help to make it better.

Well , actually , my Mother didn't write that . I think Benjamin Franklin did .
I don't understand sports comment. That is what some kids are good at .And it does bring parents to the school . But we did move here from another county & I think Paulding is great . I do see much parent support . I have friends who teach in another county and they are counting their years to retirement because the school has gotten so bad and the parents do not show up for conferences .
What I do when I am upset with something , I go to the person I am upset with and Ask . The "barber shop" or "hair salon" is gossip .
And I don't always have to be in 'the loop', my stress level is much better if I don't get involved with that stuff .
Is there not a reason why all this can't be discussed at a teacher meeting ? Everyone is there , just call it out & get it off your chest . Or talk to your boss

I don't know the OP, but I can tell you that it IS possible to be good at your job while disliking it. I was pretty miserable in my last few years at my workplace, but I continued to do good work because my conscience and work ethic demanded it of me.

Oh, I agree but you were not on here fussing about and making vieled references to sucky superiors. That is the difference.

Please tell me sutler is not a teacher in the Paulding District. If so, why if this person is so unhappy, is he or she not moving on somewhere else where they might have the chance to be happier, thus more productive?
He or she is only doing our students harm if he or she is so unhappy with their job - it usually is evident to the students and that can usually accomplish "much of nothing".

That's a very bold (literally and figuratively) statement for you to make about me.
I don't need respect from other teachers. I need respect from students, administrators, and parents. And I have that.
Oh, and don't ever, ever confuse arrogance with confidence.

WFAL - you may not need it - but I do know that you have the respect of your fellow teachers. Don't ever doubt that.

I think that teachers need to realize that this is NOT a forum for teachers to vent. Teacher venting needs to be done behind closed doors. We represent a very important aspect of our community and if the teachers are constantly whining and complaining, then people start to doubt the health of the community.
My personal motto is "fake it til you make it" and there have been times that I've HATED my job, but those days are few and far between. There was a time last year that I literally had to take a day off to get my head right, because I knew I was causing harm.
Teachers have to have their heads in the game. I don't worry about a bunch of other crap that happens in the building, that's above my pay grade. I do, however, worry about what happens in my classroom....becuase that's all that I have control over.

And that is one of the many reasons why you are so successful at what you do!
