OK we had better check next week and make sure the air is working in our
classrooms. I hope they have been checking them . Even if they have with them
being off this summer, some will stop working. It is going to be too hot for them
for them to stop working.

The teachers will have been in the classroom for 4 days by the time the kiddos get there. I would hope that maintence requests have already been submitted.

If your kids come home and say it is really hot and the air is not working--then you make a trip to the school and visit the classroom????

oh. ok. kind of like a field trip. where hundreds of parents show up and interrupt the classes. I get it.

perhaps a call to he office before the kids return to school would be a better suggestion? or maybe an email to your childs teacher, who's already working in the classroom?

yes. I took some time to think about it and answered my own question.

Let's not forget to check that the water is still working! Kids need water, right?
Toilets need to be on the list too ... </smartass remark>

are you not concerned at all about the condition of the pencil sharpener? really?
I think every parent should bring a pencil to open house.

While you are there, perhaps you should make sure all the smoke detectors are in working order as well.

To the OP....I am glad to see that you are concerned about your childs needs.
Too many parents today are not.
A lot of people consider school as a free babysitter and they have no concern as to the conditions their children face while they are there.

Do they still have those? DS's class didn't have them last year or the year before that. :pardon:What do I need to look for in middle school?

Protractors. Make sure the point is sharp enough. But not too sharp...you could put an eye out with that thing.

Thanks, bur you know this is exactly how a lot of parents think, and we wonder why we don't make AYP.
Of course that has already been discussed in another thread. It is going to be 98 degrees Wed., I care
even if you don't. Just thought I would remind you that it might not be working.

I think I would be more interested to know if they had BOOKS for the kids to study and learn. Just a thought.

They never have them on during open house, I don't understand why they have them off. It will be hot this evening, and it's ridiculous with the amount of people that's gonna be there, they don't have the decency to turn the air conditioners on. I have already told my husband he's going today, I almost passed out last year, it was so hot.

Sure, but they'll mostly be in electronic form.

Dead tree learning is so last century.
Who is John Gault? - He's the successful business owner who didn't want to play by the new 'Law of the Land' so he closed up shop, packed up his stuff and left. He was joined by many other successful business owners who did the same. They stayed away until the government begged them to return and repealed the law.

Moses was much cooler today than last year. Although, last year I was lugging around a 10lb baby in my belly, so maybe i'm not the best judge of coolness.

But yet people seem to think that the concern for the air is no big deal.
If you were miserable after just a few minutes imagine how the kids will be.

Well I hope they have the AC on while the students are there, but one of his teachers did say her room is this hot all the time, that's not good. But what can you do.

Hold on interrupt the class, sorry but if that AC isn't working it is already a interruption. How can students learn when there hot & sweating.:glare:

I have never really understood why the AC and heat are controlled at central office. I guess I understand the theory behind in it, but in reality it doesn't always work. From what I understand it is set on a timer and at a certain temperature but sometimes there are before and after school activities and without heat and air are almost untolerable. (like open house for example) Room temps vary by location just as they do in your home too. I know there was a certain room that I was required to be in twice daily with a student that was very hot. The teacher complained to admin and put in work order after work order and county office continued to respond by saying that they temp was 74 degrees in that room. Finally the mother of the chld that I was with complained enough and to the right people and the county sento someone out to the room with a thermometer, to prove that they were right, only to find out that just because their computer said the room was 74 did not mean that the room was actually 74. It was really much hotter and it finally, after almost 2 years of complaining by teachers got repaired. However, there are many other rooms like that.

I wish that the teachers were treated as the adults that they are and given the ability to control the climate in their own environment. I suppose that is asking way too much though.

Not funny at all.
I am glad the fire dept. does that. Never would have thought about that danger.

And my hair won't stay flat. It is very distracting to the learning of students to have posters falling on their heads and teachers with white girl fros.

Please don't interrupt a teacher's class or email teachers about the AC not working. Trust me, there is nothing teachers can personally do to fix the situation and if it is hot the room, they've already contacted the powers that be. Its not like we have control of the AC and are choosing to be hot.
