<snip>
In a special called meeting of the Hiram City Council Tuesday, Mayor Carmen Rollins announced that she would resign her position as of July 1. Mayor Pro Tem Jack Paris, who was not present at the meeting due to health reasons, will take over from Rollins.

Because the city is in an election year, the change will not require a special election to replace Rollins.

After calling the meeting to order and reading from a prepared statement, an emotional Rollins announced that she had made the decision to step down, and alluded to conflicts between employees and other council members that had led to her decision.

As part of her prepared statement, Rollins cited a verse from the Bible contained in the Book of Matthew, saying “‘. . . every city or house that stands divided against itself, shall not stand.’”

I'm sorry to hear this. I felt Carmen did an outstanding job coming into an office which unfortunately had been running on its own perpetual motion for years.

She breathed a breathe of fresh air into Hiram and accomplished much.

Hiram will sorely miss her leadership.

I wish Mr Paris well, and hope he is able to pick up the ball and run with it.

Wow. Sounds like a lot of drama has been going on behind the scenes and I missed it. 'Course, it's not like I have a dog in this fight, since I don't live in Hiram...

Excuse my ignorance but is this the Jack Paris that is a PE teacher at Allgood? If so, what does this mean for the school? :o :(

As long as this doesn't upset anything good restaurants there, I'm good.
I don't believe anything someone else has written, or said. I don't even believe everything I see if there is any possibility that an allusion could exist.

Kind of an oxymoron there. What "Good" restaurants are in Hiram ? Or elsewhere in Paulding County ?

Industrial food parlors and fast food wonders. Not much else.

Guess the police department will have to look elsewhere for their guns.

Or they could just use the ones they bought before and have not been used.

Well lets see. It would probably mean that Allgood school has the Mayor, Jack Paris of Hiram working there. YEA!!!!
That wasn't too hard, now was it?

Yes - it is Mr. Paris at Allgood - and it probably won't mean anything for the school - it's a part time job and he's been the mayor pro temp for years.

Yeah....I'll give you that one. I guess the word "good" can be relative. I do like Huey Luey's (sp?)

As has been said on here many times, there is always two sides to every story. All I can say is sometimes desperate times demand desperate measures.

Word on the street is the Major, Mike O'Neal perjured himself in a deposition and now is on administrative leave and a pending criminal investigation. This department is riddled with problems. The guy in charge of investigations (Acree) has many skeletons in his closet from Temple PD and since he got to Hiram it's been nothing but problems from him as well. Time to clean the whole house and start new.

Especially since the driver was arrested for DUI/MJ and possession???? And this was a while back--not sure if it has even come to Court yet.

I tried to file a complaint against a HIram PD officer and Major O'Neal never returned my calls. Intially, I emailed the Chief and cc'd the Mayor regarding the incident with the officer and was referred to Major O'Neal. Basically, I got the runaround and no complaint was ever filed. I have never had an issue with any police officer and it was difficult to make the choice to file the complaint, which is a moot point now because no one at Hiram PD seemed to care.

3 weeks ago I almost filed a complaint on a Hiram officer too. He was flying through a construction zone, wayyyy over the 35 mph, blew through stop signs... all in a patrol car headed toward AUSTELL!!! This was though the backside of Hiram and through downtown Powder Springs. He even cut someone off in the right turn lane in front of the BP in downtown powder springs. I even took a photo of his car with the car number...but then I said eff it... They won't do anything to him...just make excuses!

We had a theft of over $181,000 and contacted to Mayor to get the Police Chief to request the GBI get involved. No response from either.

The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can't pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies… America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.Senator Barack Obama
